They say the best way for a person to get over is to take their real personality and crank it up to eleven(though the number of inhuman monsters who gets over raises questions about that)
Cena's character is a nice guy, who's tough as hell, gets pissed when people question his ability or heart and loves his job. It's really a very believable personaality for someone who's lucky enough to have a job he loves.

I agree about the "Turning the volume up" notion.
But they don't do that with Cena.

Not a beer drinking redneck or a self-aggrandizing showboat how do you tell when the volume is turned up. Suppose the John Cena we see on TV is the real John Cena. How would you tell when he was turned up to 11?

In order to be a turned up version of the real Cena we need more hilarious bar videos.
Also - does this mean in standard conversation John will occasionally start screaming for no reason?
