I watched it for the first time last month when the theme for March on WWE 24/7 was about Tournaments, which Starrcade 89 was. The problem is that it's boring and forgettable. In fact, if you watch the Starrcade doc on the DVD the WWE released a few months back, they spend about a minute talking about it, tops. There is a reason.
First of all, the scoring system, while not complicated in theory, you would still need a pad of paper and pencil to keep track yourself.
I also don't think the people who won the tournament got anything. At least with the Crockett Cups (whose tapes have played on WWE 24/7 recently and boy, talk about a poorly produced home videos those were. They definately need induction, also) you got a million dollars and a trophy.
Also, I know Doom was a replacement for a another team (I forget who it was. Don't care either). But who did they piss of to lose EVERY match?
Secondly, the storyline with The Great Muta is that he was undefeated going in. So what did they do. They have him lose to Ric Flair in about a minute. In fact, I'm pretty sure he loses all his matches also.
There are also a couple of other matches there outside the tournaments. But they're forgettable. In fact, I don't even remember what they were.
Just a bad show all around.

Doom weren't the replacements, the samoans were. It was supposed the be The Skyscrapers, but Sid Vicious got hurt. What I can't believe is they replaced them with The Samoans rather than The Midnight Express, I mean Cornette is sitting there doing commentary. At least they could've had some aweome matches.

One important note: I've seen the PPV preshow. The Freebirds are HEAVILY featured in the advertisements for this but were never announced for the event.
They didn't even have the "proper" SST, of Samu and Fatu. No, instead it was "Samoan Savage" Tonga Kid and Fatu. Oh well. Still a fun event.

Also there were not any non-tournament matches.

Definately not crap. Forgettable or swallowed up by the moutain of ppv since the? Yes.
It was a weaker version of Wrestlemania 4 I think.
In that case, if you are in the reasonably big group that hated Mania 4 then yes this show sucked donkey balls. Im not in th e group.
I would rate the show somewhere in the 3 out of 10 star region. Just low mediocre not stinking out the place bad.
