According to an MLB.com report, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Xavier Nady's asking price is above New York's current budget. The Yanks have a lot of nerve to cry poverty. Give me a break.

Give me a break. They aren't...he just said the guy was above his current budget. he didn't say it wasn't the highest in baseball. *Realizes he took up for the yankees and runs to the nearest toilet*

According to an MLB.com report, Yankees general manager Brian Cashman said that Xavier Nady's asking price is above New York's current budget. This may be New York's finest smoke screen ever. "Xavier Nady's asking price is above New York's current budget". This is exactly like them, to say that they won't fork over the $2 million that it would take to keep Nady, and then go out and inevitably spend almost $175 million on Matt Holliday. Which they absolutely will do. Don't you think there's a reason that Holliday has yet to accept St. Louis' offer? As if there is a better offer publicly? Holliday is just biding his time and waiting for the Yankees to step in with a deal that is just as good or slightly better, and he's going to be the Yankees' starting LF in 2010 and beyond. By the way, here's a quote from Tom Holliday, Matt's father, from April 2009: "If someone would have called me today and said Matt had gotten traded to the Yankees, I'd have been hunting for a place to celebrate." Yes, he'll be a Yankee.

Honestly surprised the Yankees didn't go in for him.

Once he (and Boras) understood that only 2 teams cared, and Beirut wasn't calling, he wasn't going to get a better offer.

The cavernous Citi Field outfield will showcase Jason Bay's porous defense, but it will also take away a good 5-10 HRs that would've been gone in Fenway Park. Not that Bay had a career year in 2009, but I expect his home run numbers to take a dip in 2010, from the 35-40 range to the 25-30 range.
That being said, the Mets got a pretty good deal (four years, $66 million) compared to the circulating offers that Matt Holliday is getting.

That is why I was glad that Seattle withdrew after getting Bradley(who, before you say anything, will be most likely at DH almost the entire season. I predict under 30 starts in LF. We have Michael Saunders and Michael Langerhans to platoon left. Not strong bats, but good gloves who both played LF in Safeco last year). Bay trying to play LF in Safeco for 70+ games would be terrible.

The 5th year option will apparently be easily attained (per Joel Sherman), so in the end this should end up being a 5/$80M deal. I think it's more than he's worth, but he should still put up solid offensive numbers at Citi Field. Him playing out in LF could end up being a total s***show in a couple years, though.
One thing I forgot to mention is, while he's going to a larger park, he's also in an inferior division than the AL East (sorry, fans of NL East teams). I'd imagine facing weaker pitching could help offset any issues with hitting out of larger ballparks.

If this happens, I'll cream myself, but this deal makes no sense at all.

FINALLY! The Mets do something.
Also Zambrano being traded for basically Mets-related junk would be Cub comedy at it's finest.

The Mets are actually bringing back Victor Zambrano. Rick Peterson is coming back in a package deal with Victor. He says it took more than ten minutes but he says he's got the solution this time. Not sure how I feel about Bay.

The guy never stays healthy, isn't as good as people think he is, makes far too much money, and is a freaking headcase who distracts more than he does anything good for the team. The Cubs would be wise to get rid of his contract at this point.
