When was the last time the West Indies were any good? I remember back in the 80's and 90's they were a fair force. The other day that could beat an Australian second-string state side.

The last time they were a danger to any team was when Curtly Ambrose and Courtney Walsh were still around. Although they have some ok bowlers, they haven't got a real wicket taking dangerman and haven't since Walsh retired. After that they only had their batting to fall back on, and were heavily reliant on Lara and a couple of others.
The same applies now, they have nobody who you would back to take a 5 for, and if Gayle, Sarwan or Chanderpaul don't get a score then they're struggling for runs too.
As great a team as they were, they didn't look to the future until it was too late. The 01 (I think) series against England (Ambrose' last matches and Walsh's last tour) was pretty embarrasing to watch, as they were ripped apart time and again by what was a tempermental and experimental England side, still settling under Hussain and Fletcher. It was summed up by the continued picking of Ridley Jacobs as Keeper, even though they had Jimmy Adams and Lara who could both take the gloves and Ramdin waiting in the wings. Jacobs was about 50 pounds overweight and his reflexes were appalling, but they kept him in because he was one of the guys still around from the glory years.

Really the final nail for the Windies Doninance was when the Aussies beat them in about 92 in the West Indies. After that it was a real quick slide because they didnt look to the future

After that it was a real quick slide because they didnt look to the future I was gonna say that but you got the year wrong. It was 1995 & the first series W.I lost at home in 20 years & the first series they had lost anywhere in 15 years. Steve Waugh made 200 to win the 5th test & the series. Richie Richardson famously said after "I can't believe we lost. In my opinion this was the weakest Australian tem I have ever played"
