I recently saw that movie and thought it was truly great. Yeah, it was succesful when it came out, and it got a sequel, but nowadays it seems people just... forgot about it. No-one ever seems to mention it, in a good or bad way. I don't get it, I thought the story was very good and the scenario very well made, going as far as possible in the weirdness without getting absurd, I thought this was one of the best "archaeologist solves centuries-old enigma" movies I've seen?
And it strengthened yet again my opinion that Nicolas Cage is the most underrated actor in Hollywood history. Seriousl, why do people hate him so much? He may take some... unfortunate decisions when accepting a role, but I can't think of a single movie I saw him in where I did not like his performance.
...
Okay but that movie was a mess all along so that doesn't count!
So anyway, what did you guys and girls think of it?

I didn't think the movies were bad. I quite enjoyed them. So what? I liked them, big whoop.

The second movie. That's why it's not more popular. It did great at the box office, but man the quality just wasn't the same as the 1st, which is one of my favorite movies ever.

Because we don't need a poor man's Indiana Jones when the real deal is still around and kicking?
NATIONAL TREASURE is like the Renegade to INDIANA JONES' Ultimate Warrior.
THAT being said, I liked both the NT's more than the latest Indy movie, so take that for what you will. I'm just guessing that the fact that a lot of folks see this franchise as a wannabe Indy hurts it's popularity a bit.

Da Vinci Code was a HUGE movie, and all it was, was an Indiana Jones wanna be film. I didn't like the second National Treasure, but I LOVED the first movie, and would be very enthusiastic if they came out with a third movie...especially if they ditched the tired old "broken up couple that is trying to rekindle their lost love" cliche subplot. Just have a cool husband/wife team that solve puzzles equally and love each other! I always thought the Mummy movies were VERY strong for doing that (save for when they kept killing/nearly killing one of the lovers off all the time...lol).

Not to mention two video games from Sony and Naughty Dog that put everything you said in your post to shame.

I, personally, don't like the first film too much because originally the treasure was going to truly be American treasure, you know, something meaningful, instead it ended up in the final version just being a massive amount of gold horded throughout history.
LAME! We've seen that kind of pay off before.
And I will admit, the Uncharted video games are better than all 4 Indy films and both NT films COMBINED. Yes, I said it. So what? Wanna fight about it?

As for the movies, I think the reason they aren't really popular is because to the modern viewer, they are seen as cashing into the inferior Da Vinci Code movies. It's sad too, if you can get pass Nic Cage's absolutely horrid acting, there's a pretty good mystery movie series in there.

Not too sure myself.
By no means the best movies ever, I thought both films were fun little adventure flicks

I enjoyed the second film, but at the same time, I feel it was forced and contrived. The first movie was great and had a good twist on American history. It just seemed kind of more out there that Cage's character just happened to find another conspiracy involving American history that led to a new mystery (hey, that rhymed) that led them to the City of Gold of all places.
What exactly was the City of Gold doing in the United States to begin with?
Whatever. Diane Kruger is hot.

Better stories, used actual history as the framing for the beginning of the games, better acting, and of course are video games, which are > than movies.

It bored me really. One of those movies I watched then completely forgot about its existence half an hour later. Not memorable at all.

Koda, you put a whole lot of faith in the Uncharted 2 game. Being a somewhat history freak, would I have to play the first uncharted to understand the 2nd one? Or should I just jump into the 2nd one

Or should I just jump into the 2nd one You don't need to play the first one to understand the second one, but we highly recommend you play the first game anyways because it is one of the best games currently on the PS3. Plus, you'll appreciate some of the story values if you do play the first Uncharted.

There is no way the Uncharted games are better than Raiders of the lost arc. None. Also, the National Treasure movies aren't talked about because they are very forgettable. I honestly don't remember a thing about the first film.
