I have been going back and watching his old matches from when he was a heel. Something I figured out from crowd responses is at his grittiest during the Thuganomics gimmick people cheering his name and cheering for him before he turned face by refusing to join Team Lesnar were all older males. I can hear it in the bass of the voices cheering him. it is very different from today's higher pitch Cena chants. I have no clue why they ditched the Thuganomics gimmick for a more watered down version that eventually turned him into nothing like it. I relaly think if they had kept that gimmick he could have been the next Rock or Austin. Today he resembles more the exact way he debuted back in 2002. He might as well just take off the jean shorts and put on the little tight spandex again.

When he used the Thuganomics gimmick as a heel, he was probably my favorite character at that point in time. I liked him earlier on in late 2002/early 2003 when he used to come down to the ring freestyling, the stuff he used to say was just priceless. I still think they should turn him heel now, that would probably be a shock of the century, but with all the merch he's pushing, I don't think he's going to turn heel anytime soon.

He was much more amusing when he was cocky, that's all it was, he's so damn generous and giving now it's hard to connect if your a jaded normal dude.

Cena heel turn right now would be good but yeah the merch revenue would all dry up. Unless they started selling anti-cena shirts or something.
I remember he did one rap that included a line about John Ritter right after he died, it caused a shitstorm at the time.

Remember when there was news about how one of the things keeping SmackDown taped was UPN being terrified of giving Cena a live mic? Feels like ages ago.

I think that was earlier on when he started the freestyling thing, they never told him what he could and couldn't say. As time went on, he would tell them beforehand what he would say. I'd have to go watch his Word Life DVD to make sure, but it was something like that.

WWE blurred it because they wanted to make it look taboo thus increase t-shirt sales.

Thats right, like when ECW would advertise the Pillman shirt as being too edgy to show on air in order to increase sales.

I simply cannot understand why they keep trying to push Cena as this "ordinary man" when A) he's got an incredible physique, and B) he can basically beat the forces of Hell with nothing more than a pinky.
His character is all about "hustle, loyalty, and respect". Yet, uh...well...when has he ever really proven that he has those? He can't really hustle--he's muscley and not very agile. He's not loyal--back when he was feuding with Edge, he was more than willing to go to SmackDown! if Edge didn't grant him another title match. He doesn't show all that much respect--he's a dick to pretty much everyone who doesn't agree with him.

I get what ya mean, he'sm pushed as the everyman, but he's built like a bulletproof brick poophouse, and he's more Hogan than SCSA.

You, sir, would do well to remember that Hogan fought for the right of every man. Except Tugboat. But then, wouldn't an ordinary man be satisfied having his own rights and decide to get a beer or something instead?

So anyone who can distract me from it is welcome. It's not like it's the kayfabe days where seeing some saint get ahead may be frustrating cause you could never get ahead while being that nice. Plus I've never really been interested in relating to the heroes.

He use to really move fast in the ring. sure he has always been a little robotic looking in the ring(hence why he had a android character in OVW) but I think he doesn't wrestle like that anymore mostly because they tell him not to. Something else I've noticed about Cena from then and now. He has ballooned way up. Back then he was closer to his body building days and was ripped. Today he is still huge and in great shape but he isn't exactly ripped anymore. His mid section hips have really expanded out sideways.
