It's been a few weeks since the Burchill/Hurricane feud ended, and the only thought I had was... what a waste.
What a waste that the Hurricane hasn't appeared on ECW since. They didn't use this feud to elevate him, and they (so far) haven't used this feud as a way to start afresh by bringing Paul onto RAW or SD!
The momentum on the Hurricane has been lost, and Paul hasn't appeared on RAW or ECW since with a proper version of balaclava-clad "The Ripper" gimmick.
Was this feud a waste?

Well, it was tossed aside to use the airtime for this whole "ECW Homecoming". Not only did they rush this angle and scrap a few others in the process, they have even been silly enough to mark which possible challengers we should care about since Christian only did commentary on a few matches.

Not every feud needs to "build somebody up." Some of them can just be for entertainment. I'm glad they actually had a storyline going that didn't involve the same old people. Remember back in the Attitude Era and back in WCW when EVERYONE had feuds and storylines? Yeah, you never see that anymore.

Be glad...the feud gave us the first feud video package on ECW that I can remember in a really long time.

Ehh, ECW is only an hour show. You can only have so many projects going at once - and right now Hurricane and Burchill are out of the way so more room can be made for Zeke and Kozlov, Croft and Baretta, the aforementioned Homecoming tournament and most recently Tommy Dreamer's sendoff. All of which seem pretty noble to me, they use the hour well but you still can't expect miracles.
I wouldn't worry about it - I don't think Hurricane particularly needs elevating and I'm pretty sure the goal of the Burchill/Ripper storyline was to get him off ECW so he can redebut on another show; which I'm sure they're waiting for the right time for. I mean, where does he fit in right now? Raw already has the "Sheamus role" obviously and he was only there (doing nothing) a little while ago, and Smackdown's midcard is already stacked along with already having a pretty personal feud - you'll have to give it time.

It was something for both of them to do. I think there are feuds put together just to give the guys a storyline, and there are feuds put together to elevate someone.
Punk feuding with R-Truth is because Punk doesn't have anything else to do right now. Kofi feuding with Orton is to elevate Kofi.
There's a very limited space at the top of ECW, Christian is top face and it seems like Yoshi is the one with the push. Plus, as Tombi mentioned they've had to give way to other storylines, and the Homecoming, as well as try and give exposure to all the other guys they need to as well. It's always about choices when it comes to booking a show. You'll never please everyone.

I agree, this needs to happen. But seriously though, my biggest issue with the feud is that Paul and Katie Lea are doing absolutely nothing right now, and I don't even understand why. They could easily bring Paul to Smackdown or Raw and push him as a serious contender over time, whereas Katie Lea could go to Raw and enter into the Divas title picture. But eh, that's the mid-card for you.
