While doing a search about why Shane McMahon quit, I found some interesting stuff. Today Shane is 2 days removed "officially" from the WWE. In the past he has fought loudly with Vince about some of Vince's ideas for story lines. I found this as one example of how far Vince has gotten from reality, and the source of much friction with his family.....
"Stephanie McMahon was promoted to Executive Vice President of Talent, Creative Writing, and Live Events in 2007. During her time in this position, she turned down a potential incest angle proposed to her by her father. According to her, Vince was to reveal himself as the father of her baby. Of course when she said no, he pushed for Shane to be the father, but she turned that idea down, as well. Shane was extremely opposed to this idea, and was embarrassed to think that his father would even come up with such a proposal. Shane was heard to yell, scream, and throw things around while discussing this with Vince".
I'm a father, and this kind of thing makes one wonder what kind of person Vincent Kennedy McMahon is, and if he should even be walking the streets. Such a storyline would have been the end of the WWE.

I don't think Vince is a creep, but yeah, I remember hearing about this.
One thing I can say for sure though is that Shane did have two things he was open about:
He thought Linda should of never been on TV. Stephanie herself said one of the most uncomfortable things was having to strike her, though Linda apparently thought stuff like Vince being a womanizer on TV was amusing more than hurtful or anything.
Shane also said he was very uncomfortable wrestling Vince, and that it felt terrible to hit his father.

Haha, I loved how they tacked on the extra "shouting and throwing things" drama at the end. The visual of Shane randomly doing that is awesome.
No, the source of this is actually the McMahon DVD. Yes, believe it or not - Vince actually seen this as something he wanted to publish about himself in a biography. Say what you want about certain DVD's being gimped of the facts, looking at stuff through rose tinted glasses and whatnot; but there was none of that there. It was definitely honest to a fault, and he could have afforded to keep that to himself.
With that said, would it have really killed the company? I doubt it. Vince's character, and let me just stress the word character AKA not what Vince the person actually thinks about - well, his character had already lots of sickness under his belt; Zack Gowen, his I Quit match with Stephanie, making Hogan sign a contract with his own blood, Dr. Heine - I can go on. With so many other points showing his sicko nature, I don't think it would have been that out of place honestly.
How Stephanie would recover I'm not sure. How could people cheer her, how could people boo her? I think they'd pretty much be forced to write her off forever - Shane could maybe survive, but it would take all sorts of promos and matches that I'm 100% sure he would want no part in.

In his defense, an incest angle doesn't have to be ridiculous and offensive. Stories like Chinatown and Electra are considered great art.
Now someone needs to find that picture of Vince body slamming Stephanie.

Yeah, sometimes Vince doesn't seem to be all there.

What kind of a man is he? The kind that continues to believe that shock tv draws huge ratings. That's what it is, all attempts to shock the audience further and further.

I'm not defending Vince's creative decisions but to give him some credit; when you are so passionate about your company and you go 24/7 365 days thinking about it you might make a few bad decisions here and there due to stress and mental exhaust.

I'm even more bemused about the incest angle on the 'why the hell would anyone want to SEE that?' level.
I mean don't get me wrong, I was utterly disgusted by the idea of the incest angle when I heard about it, but I was also baffled how Vince thought it'd make money.

There was this movie called Spanking the Monkey. In this movie a mother and son had sex. I know these two were just actors and they are not related, but the thought of it was sick enough for me to stop watching the movie. If I saw Vince and Stephanie who are related do anything sexual, I would have to stop watching WWE, or at least RAW (the show they were on) until the angle is finished.

It's amazing how different the two are. Shane seems..ya know..rational, progressive, sane, overall..a good guy. His father often times has seemed like the complete opposite.
I'm gonna miss Shane O'Mac..hope he doesn't stay out of the public eye..

Well incest stories existed for a long time. Ever read Oedipus Rex by Sophocles?

This storyline Vince was playing with is just not done. The news media would have torn him apart. They would have gone after him worse than the ballon boy. You could forgive the balloon boy's parents for just being stupid, but Vince's idea was beyond morality.
