I'm so happy for Evan! Its been a long drought for the US men, and I honestly thought that Plushenko would have had to skate the whole routine with his butt in order to lose this one. And a pretty good skate for Johnny Weir, too. He's nowhere near as good technically as the other guys, so he wasn't going to medal, but at least he held it together. And the first men's skating medal for Japan, too.

Britain are in line for their first gold medal with Amy Williams in the Skeleton. The Americans have already complained about her helmet, claiming the ridges on it gives her an advantage, but the IOC have rightfully thrown those complaints out.
GO TEAM GB!

Does anybody here have any underdog nations they're cheering for? Being of Slovenian decent, I'm also rooting for their team, which you can there at the bottom the medal count list with one bronze.

Sorry all, but I haven't been able yet to mention my TRIP... ... ... ... to the Finland-Russia women's hockey game on Sunday. I was glad that I was able to go to at least one Winter Olympic event and I took a couple of friends with me. It was at the University of B.C.'s Thunderbird Arena, and as one of my friends works at UBC, we were able to go early and park with no problem. The Thunderbird Arena has recently been renovated and it looks quite nice. They were doing airport security scans of everyone that went into the arena, but the lineups were quite fast...there was only about a 15 minute way. On the way in, they had a fellow dressed in a Quatchi costume (the Sasquatch mascot) and a lot of kids were getting their pictuires taken with him. They also had a band busking outside. The crowd was excited and lots of them were dressed in red--Canada's colours. But of the other fans, there were more Finland fans than Russia fans. The Finnish team got a bigger cheer than the Russian team. (I was surprised that the arena was only 80-90 per cent full. Although my friends and I were up in the nosebleeds, we could still see the ice well as the Thunderbird Arena is about 1/2 the seating of an NHL rink.) There was a souvenir area and programs were sold. hot dogs and snadwiches started at $5. Finland won 5-1, with the Russian goal coming in a goalmouth scramble. US hockey fans should hope to meet Russia and not Finland, as Finland's women's seems to be a bit better carrying the attcak, setting up on the power play, etc. They were pretty evenly matched though, although Finland was a step better. It wasn't a squash match. It was televised, but not in Canada. Two TV cameras on big long poles covered the rink. My friends and I had lots of fun...and I got the tickets at cost.

They have a fantastic Goalie. That is the main reason the Fins did so well.

Good...very very good They wear skirts. They are nice watching them on TV now. I looked at the NBC website and the pictures do not do them justice. Canada doesn't have a good looking team. The skip looks cute but she's skewing a bit older on my end.
