To me, it's the greatest WrestleMania ever and pretty much the greatest wrestling PPV/event/show ever as well.

Incredible. Top to bottom. Let me say this, this was the last ppv I got until WrestleMania 25. I was 18 for X-7 and 26 for 25. I thought that nothing could top that ppv, and honestly, I don't think any has. Yet.

Great ppv, however, I don't know if I'm alone on this but ... Wrestlemania 19>X-Seven IMO 19 could have tied with X-Seven if it weren't for how both main events ended. If Brock hit that SSP and Booker T won. WM X-Seven was my first Wrestlemania so it has nostalgic value as well.

10. Absolutely. Austin's heel turn was the second greatest heel turn of all time, it was truly, truly amazing, unexpected and brilliant. I went crazy for it. It wasn't really all that unexpected, it had been heavily rumored online for several weeks before the show. But I was hoping for a Rock heel turn instead, as he had already become very tired & repetitive as a babyface.

I'd give it an 8 and I don't think it's the greatest Mania. The Women's Title match was bad, the Gimmick Battle Royal was shit and not even funny. It was just a waste of time in my opinion, I mean the entrances took long then the match itself. Also Triple H/Undertaker was solid at best, I think alot of people overrate it.
I didn't see the Angle/Benoit match as I don't watch Benoit matches, so that affects the rating somewhat.

I am going to say 8. Th wrestling, top to bottom, was really good. The thing that prevents it from being a 10 is Austin turning heel the way he did. This, although I gave it a seven. It was shaping into the perfect PPV for me before Austin turing heel and shaking hands with McMahon at the end. That just wrecked the whole thing for me and it was a huge mistake in my view. Even now I watch it and when Austin and McMahon share a beer I am thinking "He will stunner him this time...." but always ends the same way. 9 years later and I am still not over it.....

for my money the best WM ever
the only thing I really didn't like was the ending to Austin vs Rock

Its a terrific PPV. Not perfect, but certainly among the best I've seen
Minor complaints: - Y2J/Regal could've maybe gone 5 minutes longer in lieu of the Gimmick Battle Royal, which I didn't really think was all that, although it was nice to see some of those guys again - putting Okerlund and Heenan on commentary was a nice touch too.
- Eddie/Test had too much shenanigans involving Malenko and Saturn. Took away from the match a bit.
- Taker/HHH is a decent brawl, but the fact the referee bumps and then doesn't move for a good 10 minute detracts from it - just seemed like a silly way to allow them to fight around the arena.

My favorite PPV. Nothing has come close to topping it (although Survivor Series 2002 and Mania XIX were both damn good as well).

Yeah, but there wasn't much point in turning him heel when he was going to be written out for months. And his 2001 Invasion return was a huge moment for WWE. Last huge rating, in the 7.0 range IIRC.

I didn't see the Angle/Benoit match as I don't watch Benoit matches, so that affects the rating somewhat. I don't blame you for not wanting to watch Benoit matches, but if you ever feel like you can watch them again, go for this one first. I'm not often impressed by the technical prowess of a match, but I loved the way that the match went from a 5-10 minute chain wrestling sequence to an all out brawl when Angle throws a punch.

I have not seen this event and will be getting it as soon as I have money. But to me the Austin heel turn sounds like a good idea which would have a lot of impact. Why is it so hated? I

Considering people always masturbate over pretty much ANYONE turning heel, you'd think the people would love it. Apparently it wasn't very over, but I remember Austin being quite over as a heel when he put the effort in, and when he became a face again at the end of 2001 his reactions weren't what they used to be.

A dirty finish to the most anticipated singles match of all-time? It was Austin's big comeback in a face-vs-face main event, in his home state no less, and they pulled the carpet out from underneath what was the logical crowd-pleasing conclusion. I do like the idea of ending Attitude with Austin selling out to McMahon. That was great storytelling. The whole thing started with the Austin/McMahon feud, almost fitting that the Anti Hero sells out to the Villain.

But that's precisely WHY it's brilliant.
Austin has beaten Rock before, but The Rock has grown since they last met and so Austin can't beat him clean this time. So he has to enlist McMahon and a steel chair, as he steadily loses grip of his sanity (see: 'What?' and him talking to his watch and cuddling McMahon) in his insane pursuit of the world title, desperate to be recognised as the baddest son of a bitch in the world again instead of this young upstart stealing his glory.
And yes, that would be an obvious crowd-pleasing decision, and subverting what the crowd wants is a brilliant choice and exactly what was needed. That's what made it good booking. If the crowd knows what's coming why should they give a shit? It was instant heat.

It was foreshadowed a bit before WM 17 with Austin saying something like "I need to beat you Rock, I need it more than you could ever imagine", which lead to the sellout to McMahon to ensure that he could win the title. Definitely a case of Austin's character doubting he could beat Rock again and afraid of not being the top guy he used to be. Solid booking from a character standpoint, but definitely not a great way to end Mania.
