Entrance sets I liked:
Invasion, with the separate ramps that joined into one. WMs 17-20 - had a big-time feel to them, and I especially liked WM 20's TitanTron floor. KOTR '99, with the tunnel made of ladders Royal Rumble 2K6 - a nice flashback to when guys would open the doors at KOTR.
Outside of WWE, I liked the setups for Bash at the Beach & Halloween Havoc. They fit the respective themes of the shows perfectly.
I suppose it's a way of cutting costs, but WWE should design something new for SummerSlam. They've used the same one (with a few small changes) for 3 years now.

If Sd and Raw didn't get a set overhaul when they switched networks they aren't getting one for a while.

I liked the "In Your House" house exterior stage, and also the Giant RAW.
I was never a fan of what they did in 1998, where every PPV had the same stage (from Royal Rumble 1998 - Wrestlemania 1999), but a different sign over the entrance. It was so lazy.

FINALLY a thread about this....and somebody who agrees with me.
The L-shaped, long entrances (where the wrestlers seemed to gave to walk around the perimeter of the hockey boards in the arena) were AWESOME.
Some favorites of mine include the entrances at BIG venues, such as the aisle at Safeco field and the Hoosier Dome for WrestleMania VIII.
I agree with you that the MSG camera with entrance in the background is cool.
The ramp is SO played. I remember it debuted the night after the WrestleMania where Undertaker fought Sid. Until that point, RAW was in what looked like a bingo hall. They suddenly switched to big arenas on a weekly basis. But it's time to give it a rest.
The new RAW theme logo provided a perfect opportunity for a new set design/concept. No such luck.

I liked Judgement Day 2002 with the giant tombstones at the entrance.

The only reason I want the "In Your House" PPVs to return is so we can see that kickass set one more time.

Allow me to toss my hat in the ring:
1) as for the ropes, why not use the SNME design of white ropes with red ringposts for the joint PPVs? I liked that look, it was pretty darned sleek.
2) as for the entrances: here's a short list of personal favorites and notable hatred: FAVORITES -WrestleMania XIX: It was a throwback with the "L entrance". -Armageddon 1999: I loved the look with the tanks and army vehicles. -Backlash 1999-2006: Those crazy hook things always make the entrance look cool. -Survivor Series 1998: I liked the skull with the fire on the sides of the entrance. -RAW circa 2002: it was the best RAW entrance ever, the one right before they got the new (and current) RAW entrance.
LEAST FAVORITES -SmackDown: The Fist. Enough said. -Royal Rumble 2000: It incorporated a New York City feel, but the entrance to the Rumble lasted about three seconds. -WWF 1996-1997: The same basic entrance design, with different logos. -Vengeance 2006: It was just a big mess.

Wrestlemania 20 with the NYC skyline set was pretty cool. Although i did question the idea to set the skyline on fire for Kane's entrance.

It depends on the show.
I would say Smackdown isn't so bad......but I would ditch the blue color. Whoever decided on blue did not do their research. According to color psychology, blue and gray are two very very very complacent, relaxing, and depressing colors. They don't work with the intensity of pro wrestling at all. I think thats one of the biggest reasons the show is so unwatchable to me. I can't stand the blue color scheme.
RAW needs a complete redesign. The stage has been the same for the last 10 years....its old and stale and needs to be changed. I don't think its so much the metal ramps needs to be done away with....it needs to be rethought. Also, the background needs to be redone. An L shaped metal walkway, perhaps? Or an angled metal walkway out of the corner? I also think the titantron needs to go.....maybe replaced by 3 smaller screens angled to each other or something like that. A red and black metal industrial look?
ECW really needs to go. They need to get the hell out of Smackdown arenas and start booking their own show in tinier arenas. I think a small metal entryway with an ECW logo and curtain would be fine. Also, bring back the big ramp that connects directly to the ring.
I think prt of the problem with the product today is that its too squeeky clean, whereas wrestling needs to be dirty and gritty and not so polished. Everything from the in ring product to the look and presentation is squeeky clean, and this needs to change. Attitude era, I though, had a good mix of both. This should start with changing the entryway.

My favourite PPV looks, ones that i wouldn't mind aeeing again in some form are:
InVasion- Sure the angle sucked, but hte stage design was neat, 2 ramps, 1 for each faction,. They could do this with WrestleMania- a Raw ramp and a Smackdown ramp. King of the Ring 2001- The great big chair. It was something different, like that Backlash stage where there were the great big blades, it could've been 01, 02 or 03, I can't remember. SummerSlam 92, Wembley- It was a totally idfferent look to other arenas, and something similar again would be cool. I like WrestleMania 19 as well as it is similar. Wrestlkemania 9/Royal Rumble 06- both are nearly identical, but still pretty neat stages.
I agree with the author- the shows need a new look and something to stand them and the PPVs all apart from each other. Wrestlemania is the only show which has a unique design each year- 19, 20, 21 and 22 have all been totally different. I actually liked the stage design when Smackdown had the Ovaltron, and I would't mind that returning.

I liked Survivor Series' set in 2002. Why? Because there was no set. It was just the screen door and it made the event look intimate yet grand at the same time.

I LOVED that one Summerslam where they had the stylized pictures of all the wrestlers, anime-style.
It looked really cool.

In my opinion, all of the MSG ppvs that had the entrance in the backround looked cool. -Wrestlemania 10 -Survivor Series '96 -Summerslam '98 -Royal rumble '2000 -Survivor Series '02 -Wrestlemania 20 (kind of, but they should've kept the tradition!) every two years or so they seemed to have a major "big five" ppv at the Garden, so they were due to have Summerslam at MSG this year. What's up wit dat?!

I think the Raw set should have three smaller titantrons twith RAW on it. Kind of like the Raw set in 1995-97.
