So I had this crazy idea lately of creating a forum game based on the awesome multiplayer FPS Left 4 Dead. I have lots of ideas to make it work, but I'd like it to be a joint effort so don't hesitate to suggest ideas and changes so we can create something that we all like!
OK now bear with me, it's gonna be a little long but it's really not very complicated. Here is how I'd like to make it work. The categories are marked as spoiler so it's easier to navigate. Again, don't hesitate to suggest anything you'd like to add/remove or modify is some way and ask any question you want:

THE BASIC RULES
----------------------
{Spoiler}_There will be two teams of four players, one for the survivors and one for the infected. The survivors win as long as there's at least one survivor alive at the end of the thread (the 30th page), the infected win by killing or incapacitating all survivors;
_The infected players will be randomly asigned a specific type of infected (Hunter, Spitter, Smoker, Boomer, Charger, Jockey)
_I will be the Director, essentially a GM. As such, I will control the common infected and Witches. Much like the AI Director from the game, I will also spawn hordes and turn an infected into a Tank. However, I will also provide the survivors with bonuses and ammunition every now and then. I will also give everyone their turn;
_We will use a turn-based system. That means one survivor will perform an action (attack, heal, help an ally up, etc) then an infected will do the same, then a survivor, etc.
_Since the survivors win by reaching the end of the thread alive, please use your turn if you want to comment on something (of course, this won't count as an action so you can chat as much as you want before or after performing an action as long as you keep it to the same post );
_when a player has performed an action, their turn is over and the next one will play;
_During the five last pages of the thread, the game will enter a crescendo event. What this means is that just like how in the game, Survivors must fight wave after wave of Infected while waiting for rescue to arrive, there will be constant new hordes attacking, and there might even be extra tanks spawning;
_everything that requires a random roll will be used thanks to www.random.org, a random numbers generator.

HOW THE SURVIVORS WORK
------------------------------------
{Spoiler}All survivors will start with 100 HP. However, reaching 0 HP doesn't mean death, but incapacitation. This means they will be unable to do anything but a weak attack. They will also have 200 HP BUT they will lose 10 points with each player's turn, and the infected can attack him, making him lose health even faster The teammates of an incapacitated survivor will have to help them up before they die. If a survivor is killed, they are eliminated for the rest of the game. After being helped up, a survivor will go back to 50 HP. After being a second time, they'll go back to 33 HP. If they get incapacitated three times in a row without being healed with a health kit (and only a health kit will do the trick), they will die. If they do get healed though, they get their two strikes again.
With each turn, a survivor can:
_attack the common infected,
_attack a special infected (a player),
_toss a throwing weapon,
_heal a teammate or themselves (using a health kit, pain pills or an adrenaline shot),
_give an item to a teammate;
_help an incapacitated teammate up;
_shove a Hunter or Jockey away from a teammate or break a Smoker's toungue. This will immediately free the teammate but will give the Infected player a chance to attack again at the next round.

HOW THE INFECTED WORK
----------------------------------
{Spoiler}Every player of this team will be randomly attributed a type of infected which can be Hunter, Spitter, Smoker, Boomer, Charger or Jockey. It is also possible for an infected to spawn as a Tank, but it will only happen once during the game. When you die, you will re-spawn and be nce again randomly attributed a type of infected. For example you can start a game as a Smoker, get killed, respawn as a Spitter, get killed, respawn as a boomer, etc... note that it is possible that you are attributed the same ttype of infected twice, and there can't be two of the same type at the same time.
Like the survivors, each player is allowed one action per turn, but since the infected don't use weapons, the choices are pretty much limited to primary or secondary attack. Keep in mind that the primary attacks take some time to recharge before they can be used again.
Here's a detailed description of each type:
Hunter
HP: 100
Main attack: Pounce. The Hunter leaps on a survivor and pins them to the ground, causing up to 15 damage points, before clawing at them, causing up to 15 damage points after EACH player's turn. The victim of the attack cannot do anything until the Hunter is killed or shoved. Similarly, the Hunter keeps clawing and can't do anything else until shoved. It takes one round to recharge this attack.
Secondary attack: Claw. The Hunter attacks an enemy with his hands. Causes up to 20 damage points.
Smoker
HP: 140
Primary attack: Tongue Choke. The Smoker catches a survivor with its tongue then drags it towards him. It does no damage aat first, but starting after the next player's turn, causes up to 20 damage points after EACH player's turn. Its victim can't fo anything until the Smoker is killed or his tongue broken and similarly, the Smoker can't do anything else while attacking. It takes two rounds to recharge this attack.
Secondary attack: Claw. The Smoker attacks an enemy with his hands. Causes up to 20 damage points.
Spitter
HP: 110
Primary attack: Acid Spit. The Spitter throws an acid ball at a survivor. The ball splashes and can hit up to all 4 Survivors. All Survivors hit by the acid suffer up to 15 damage points after EACH player's turn. However, the effect of the acid stops after a random number of turns for each Survivor (this is supposed to show that the Survivors managed to go away from the spit). Note that if a survivor is pounced on by a Hunter, caught by a Smoker, pummeled by a Charger or rode by a Jockey while into the spit, they keep taking damage from it as they can't move. It takes two rounds to recharge this attack.
Secondary attack: Claw. The Spitter attacks an enemy with her hands. Causes up to 20 damage points.
When killed, the acid leaks from her body and splashes around her, which can cause the Surivors to suffer the same effects as the spit attack. The odds are lower, though.
Boomer
HP: 60
Primary attack: Bile Puke. The Boomer vomits on a Survivor, attracting a Horde. The bile also covers the Survivors' faces, impairing their vision and lowering their accuracy by giving them a -10 on their roll during battles. This attack can hit up to all 4 Survivors. It takes 3 complete turns to recharge.
Secondary attack: Claw. The Boomer attacks an enemy with his hands. Causes up to 20 damage points.
Jockey
HP: 130
Primary attack: Ride. The Jockey hops on a Survivor and rides them, causing up to 15 damage points after EACH player's turn. The victim can't do anything until the Jockey is killed or shoved and similarly, the Jockey can't do anything else while riding a survivor. Note that the jockey can then ride its victim into Spitter goo even if they weren't hit by the goo or if they left it. It takes two rounds to recharge this attack.
Secondary attack: Claw. The Jockey attacks an enemy with his hands. Causes up to 20 damage points.
Charger:
HP: 170
Primary Attack: Charge. The Charge dashes towards one of the Survivor and grabs them, then slams them against an obstacle, causing up to 25 damage points. He then pummels the survivor repeatedly, causing up to 30 damage points after EVERY TWO PLAYERS' turn. He can also knock down the other Survivors, causing up to 15 damage to each one of them. It takes two rounds to recharge this attack
Here are also some special cases. These are some types of Infected that work in a very specific way:
Common Infected/Hordes:
The common infected are not controlled by players but by the director. They appear in more or less big groups and can only deal 1 damage point. They also don't have any HP as I'll consider that every succesful shot is a kill. The Survivors can decide to shoot the common Infected rather than one of the players from the opposing team.
If the shot is succesful, a random roll will decide how many common infected are killed during the player's turn. Keep in mind that a player using a shotgun can't kill more than 3 common infected per turn.
Hordes work the same way, but in much larger numbers. Hordes are summoned every now and then by the director to keep the game somewhat balanced, or when hit with boomer bile.
The Witch
Again, this one is not controlled by players but by the director. Under normal conditions, she is no threat, but should a Survivor startle her, she will madly dash at them and incapacitate them before clawing at them, making the incapacitated Survivor lose between 10 and 40 HP after EACH player's turn.
What happens once she appears is that for three rounds, after each Survivor's turn, a random roll will decide wether or not the witch got startled by the player. If she was... well, tough luck. The Survivor who startled her will get exactly one chance of killing her with a headshot before getting incapacitated. Of course, even if that doesn't work, the teammates can then kattack her. She has 250 HP.
Tank
This one IS controlled by players. At any given time, an Infected player can spawn as the Tank, a particularly humongous creature which can potentially take down the entire Survivor team if used well. In theory, he should only appear once, if that.
HP: 1000
Primary attack: Punch. The Tank makes use of its enormous arms to punch a Survivor away. Causes between 15 and 50 damage points.
Secondary attack: Object throw. The tank picks up a large object from the ground and tosses it at one of the Survivors, causing between 50 and 100 damage points. Note that it takes one round for the tank to throw the object, during which he is completely vulnerable as he can't do anything else. It takes two rounds to recharge this attack.
Like the survivors, each player is allowed one action per turn, but since the infected don't use weapons, the choices are pretty much limited to primary or secondary attack. Keep in mind that the primary attacks take some time to recharge before they can be used again.

WEAPONS & ITEMS
------------------------
{Spoiler}Those are the Survivors' best friends. The weapons will allow them to kill before they get killed and the items will help them survive until the end. All Survivors start the game with a basic gun, a big gun of their choosing with full ammo, a bottle of pain pills and a health kit. The director will also spawn ammunition, weapons and items every now and then (they will be automatically given to a Survivor so they don''t have to use up a turn to pick them up).
Note that if a player gets incapacitated, they will only be able to use the basic gun until they get helped up by a teammate. Similarly, if they run out of ammo, they go back to the basic gun until they find more.
Pistol
The basic weapon. You have unlimited ammo for this one, but it can only between 10 and 30 damage points.
Shotgun
A powerful weapon that can deal between 60 and 150 damage points. You can carry up to 42 shells and uses two of them per shot. Since it's pretty much impossible to use spread fire with it, it can also only kill up to three common infected per turn.
Assault Rifle
Not as powerful as the shotgun as it only deals between 40 and 120 damage per round. However, since you can carry up to 360 shells with it and it uses 10 of them per round, the risk to run out of ammo is lower.
Pipe Bomb
Thanks to its beeping sounds, it attracts common infected and can kill up to 25 of them, making them particularly useful when confronted to a horde. If it hits player Infected, it can also deal between 30 and 160 damaage points. They can only be used once.
Molotov
It spreads fire once it impacts with something. All common infected hit with it (up to 12) will die immediately when set on fire. All player Infected hit with it (up to all 4 of them) will burn and lose between 30 and 70 HP after EACH player's turn. This effect doesn't stop until the burning Infected dies. They can only be used once.
Health Kit
Contains all you need to perform some quick surgery. It will make you recover 50 HP and reset the number of times you can be incapacitated. The Survivors can either use them on themselves or on one of their teammates, and doing so uses one turn. They can only be used once.
Pain Pills
Not as efficient as the health kit, but still good to give you a little boost when you're starting to get weary. It will make you recover 33 HP. However, it does not reset the number of times you can be incapacitated, and can only be used once. They can be given to other players though.

BATTLES
-----------
{Spoiler}Here, I will explain the battle system, which is actually quite simple. When a player attacks another, there will be a random roll for both players, who can roll from 1 to 100. If the attacked player gets a higher roll, the attack will simply miss; if the attacking player gets a higher roll, it hits, and the amount of damage dealt is decided by another random roll. Note that the attacker gets a +10 bonus on their roll.
For example, a survivor attacks an Infected with a shotgun, they roll a 41 (31 + 10) and the Infected rolls a 25, so the shot hits, and the Infected suffers 86 damage points.
