Yep, I'm ripping off Deadpool Racer's idea, and doing a list of my 25 all time favorite Nintendo Entertainment System Games. The list contains all of my favorite games that I either own, or have rented some time in my life. Since I have a somewhat different taste in games at times, this should make for a more unique list than others. So, let's kick it off with... #25: M.C KidsThis is a game that I personally think gets a very unfair amount of negativity. Yes, It is based on the McDonald's restaurant franchise. Yes, it is a Mario 3 clone in many ways. But those 2 things aside, this is a very innovative game. The main plot of the game involves you having to search through McDonaldland trying to find magic cards to move further on until you finally face off with Ronald's rogue magic bag. One of my favorite things about the game is the ability to go upside down, and be able to run and jump up on the ceilings of each level. Another plus is it's fantastic soundtrack. Including some songs that I honestly believe deserve more respect than they usually get.

#24: Tetris 2While more similar to Dr. Mario than the original Tetris, that doesn't stop Tetris 2 from being a solid puzzle game in it's own right. The goal of the game is to match up colored blocks in order to clear the stage. The twist that makes this different from Dr. Mario is that in every level, there are three blocks that are "bombs". get rid of the bomb, and every block of that particular color will be gone from the screen. While it adds nothing new to the table in terms of puzzle games, it can still be a very addicting game, and definitely one to put in anyone's collection.

#23: Fester's QuestThe commercial for this game actually advertised it as "one tough video game". and that's the truth. You get 2 health points at the start, and getting game over sends you back to the beginning no mater how much progress you've made. That said, once you know where every item is, as well as the 2 extra health points, And upgrade your gun to it's absolute best (while avoiding any and all downgrades), it's actually a fairly decent top down shooter, one that reminds me of another tough game, Zombies ate my neighbors. The main story is about Uncle Fester going through town, stopping evil aliens. Everything from evil Frogs, giant bugs, weird green orbs that multiply, and finally the evil UFO's main computer. It's definitely a weird concept, but since it's the age of NES, it's par for the course. This game also has a really well done soundtrack. From a decent rendition of the Addams Family theme, to the epic boss battle music, there's enough ear candy for any game music enthusiast to enjoy. It's not for everyone, but for those willing to enjoy a challenge, Fester's Quest is definitely worth a play.

That's it for the first 3 on the list. I'll be updating possibly later tonight with the next 2.
Hints: Tetris, time travel, and chicken nuggets. "With the Pass"

#22: Startropics II: Zoda's RevengeThe 2nd last Nintendo game on the NES, Zoda's Revenge is the sequel to the 1990 cult hit, Startropics. In the game, you once again play as Mike Jones, as he ends up on a trip through time to collect the powerful tetrads, and send the Argonian tribe he saved in Star Tropics home. New to Zoda's Revenge is the ability to move and shoot in all 8 directions, making Mike far less tank like. As well as replacing the yo-yo with weapons like axes and katanas. While it does lack in the music department, and the graphics are definitely lacking, it still manages to be a really fun top down action puzzler, and one of the more solid final nes games.

#21: Blades of SteelI'm not what you would call a sports fan, but when there is a good video game featuring a particular sport, I'll play it. And Blades of Steel is one I've played since I was at least 5 or 6. So, it's definitely one I know a thing or two about. In the game, you can play in both exibition mode or tournament mode, competeing in Junior, College, or Pro difficulty. While the game doesn't have the NHL license, you do get to play as teams like Chicago, Toronto, and Vancouver. It was also one of the earlier NES games to contain voice samples. From the epic "Blades of Steel" in the opening, to "With the Pass", and "Face Off". Another plus is the ability to fight your opponnent, with the perk that the losing fighter will get the penalty. And yet another little perk to the game is Konami's shameless plugging of their own products, with a mini game of gradius during the end of the 2nd period (Which also has ads for Contra and Jackal). Blades of Steel is a must play for fans of both hockey, and solid nes sports games.

#20: The Legend of ZeldaThe game that started a legendary franchise, Zelda is a non linear top down action game that has you play as Link, a hero who has to find the pieces of the triforce to save Zelda from Ganon. the controls are solid, music epic, and even more interesting is that there's an entire 2nd quest you can play by either beating the 1st quest, or putting "Zelda" as your name. Zelda is among the elite of NES games, but for some reason it has never been one I consider in my top 10. But that doesn't mean I don't acknowledge it as a true classic.

#19: Darkwing DuckBased on the hit Disney Afternoon cartoon, you play as Darkwing Duck, the caped crime fighter, and defender of St. Canard. the game borrows many elements from Capcom's Mega Man franchise, from the action shooting gameplay, the ability to choose which level to play, certain enemy actions (One of the F.O.W.L enemies attacks similar to sniper joe). However, the game has it's own original abilities, like certain intems you can collect for your gas gun, as well as a cape sheild that can deflect enemy projectiles. While I do believe there are far better games based on Disney toons, this one is still extremely fun, and one of the games I rented the most as a kid.

#18: Bionic CommandoCapcom is notorious for many classic run and gun games for the NES (The Mega Man series, Commando), and this arcade port is definitely the most unique. In the game you play as Ladd Spencer, who has to stop an evil army, and save Super Joe. Unable to jump, you instead use a bionic arm that you can aim in 7 directions to swing across certain areas. The only major downside to the arm is that you need pixel perfect swings some times to survive. You have to go through several levals, defeating enemies, and collecting items that can help you further in the game (Like health potions, more powerful transmitters, rocket launchers, etc). There's also a bonus level that plays similar to Commando, where you have to make it accross a top down view area, destroying major obstacles to collect continues). The enemies in the game were also changed for the NES port from Nazi's to the "badds". Although the final boss is still Adolf Hitler, which leads to one of the most satisfying death scenes in any NES game.

#17: Batman The Video GameWhile plot centers around the hit 1989 Tim Burton Batman film, the game definitely variates far from anything that actually happens in the movie (Well, save for fighting the Joker). In the game, you play as Batman through 5 levels as you face off with the Joker atop Gotham cathedral. Aiding you are three weapons, the quick shooting batarang, the single shot dart gun, and the triple shot dirk. Batman also has superior jumping skills as he can wall jump with the greatest of ease. Sunsoft delivers with a game that has a fair difficulty, as well as some amazing music tracks. For a licensed game on the NES it definitely stands out among the best.

#16: Mega Man 4While the MM franchise was starting to show it's staleness by the 4th installment, Mega Man 4 still managed to bring some new goodies to the table. Most notably being the ability to charge your mega buster for a far more effective shot. As well as the addition of Eddie Flip Top, who can give you random items in certain levels. The plot of the game has Mega Man facing off with a new enemy, Dr. Cossack, who has sent 8 robot masters out to destroy the blue bomber. All which leads to a plot twist that you'd see coming a mile away. The game also has perhaps one of the more dissapointing endings, which is a shame due to the game being a fairly solid addition to the series. While nowhere near as perfect as it predecessors, it's still a solid NES title, and worth a play.

#15: Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III: The Manhattan ProjectReleased around the same time as Turtles in Time, this NES only Turtles beat-em-up is often overlooked. Which is a shame, considering that it's one of the more solid beat-em-ups on the NES console, especially by the system's end. In the game, you play as the turtles, who, while on vacation at Palm Beach, learn that the Shredder has once again kidnapped April, and has sent the island of Manhattan floating in the sky. The turtles are equipped with new abilities that adds uniqueness to each turtle, Don's spinning bo slash, Leo's tornado, Raph's drill, and Mikey's springboard. While these can be effective in taking out bosses, they do cost health to do each time, so conservation is definitely the key to victory. Like the previous TMNT game, there's 2 player co-op. as well as plenty of classic TMNT enemies, like Slash, Tokka, Rahzar, Krang, and even the Super Shredder. For fans of Turtles, and beat-em-ups, this is a must play.

#14: Dr. MarioReleased around the same time as the NES port of Tetris, Dr. Mario became a smash hit almost immediately. The gameplay is similar to a game I listed earlier, Tetris 2. The goal is to match multi-colored pills with the viruses in the pill bottle. Destroy all the viruses, and advance to the next level. There's a fair amount of challenge as the game advances, with more viruses, and the speed rapidly gaining. Another plus to the game is the excellent soundtrack, with the classic "Chill", and "Fever" song settings. Both being among the best video game themes ever. If you're a puzzle game fan, this is a must play.

Ok.....I think I've guessed 2 of these and I'm glad to see there's love for Capcom's Disney games. I've often wondered why Disney decided to go In-house around 94 (Lion King) or so for thier games as the quality has been lacking as has been thier ability to stand the test of time. Truly the only "Bad" Capcom Disney Game was Mickey Mousecapade but that can be more attributed to not aging well.

#13: Chip N' Dale Rescue RangersBased on the hit Disney Afternoon title, you play as Chip and Dale, as they go through level after level in a quest to save fellow ranger Gadget, who's been kidnapped by Fat Cat. Chip and Dale attack by lifting various objects, and throwing them at enemies. You can also find Zipper the fly, who will provide invincibility for a couple seconds. Another plus to the game is the abiliity of 2 player simultaneous co-op, something you rarely saw in nintendo platformers. And like all Capcom games, it has an excellent soundtrack. While perhaps the easiest of the Disney Afternoon games, it's still a fun game and worth the play.

#12: DucktalesThe Disney Afternoon game that started it all. In Ducktales, you play Scrooge McDuck, who, not satisfied with the riches he already has, goes on a quest to collect artifacts from 5 different locations. From the Amazon, to the Himalayas, and even the Moon. Scrooges attacks by using his cane as either a golf club or pogo stick. Of all the Capcom Disney games, this one has perhaps the greatest soundtrack. Among the best include Transylvania and The Moon. Like Rescue Rangers, the game can be pretty easy, but it's definitely one that should be given a play.
