Cryme Tyme debuts this week, and everywhere I look, there's a lot of speculation about how they will end up, most of it negative. But this hasn't been specific to the new tag team; there have been a lot of "the PPV isn't worth $40," "That gimmick is going to suck," or "Cena will probably win" comments.
I'll admit, I'm one of those people who have become jaded with the WWE product (and have been for awhile). But like just about everyone here, despite any negative comments, I really do want to see WWE succeed. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt and say that the company is still capable of doing the right thing, regardless of any preconceived notions.
So in order to solidify my belief that WWE isn't totally incompetent, I want to know the times in which everyone expected something to be bad, but was wrong. When did you expect something from WWE to fail, only for it to actually go down the proper route and show the company may actually know what it's doing?
Recent examples for me include Big Show going to ECW and King Booker's longer-than-expected title reign. Hell, even way back when, I thought Maria shouldn't have been on television any time past the diva search, but now she's one of the main reasons people watch Raw.
So what do you all think?

Everyone sayin DX wouldn't last til SummerSlam was pretty stupid. THey're the biggest WWE draw and it would've been stupid to break them up so fast. Never got why so many posters around here kept sayin that.

I liked Cryme Tyme from the start. I am teh leetzorz.
I was wrong about,
- The Boogeyman (entertaining) - 'Pirate' Paul Burchill (awesome) - Finlay's midget (entertaining)
And others.
I usually have a very open mind, but the WWE surprises me with it's capacity for humor, at times.
Wait, that's wrong.
I'm glad for the people who MAKE these characters entertaining.
WWE management has nothing to do with it.

THey're the biggest WWE draw and it would've been stupid to break them up so fast. No, they're not. Cena, as much criticism as he gets (much of it deserved), is a bigger draw than DX. While calling DX a failure would be wrong, it would be accurate to say that they haven't brought in the desired ratings.

I was wrong about Finlay's midget. I thought it was gonna be terribly lame, but it turned out to be one of the highlights on Smackdown every week.

Boogeyman... Yes he sucked in the ring, but good lord was he way more entertaining than most of us said he'd be...
"Pirate" Paul Burchill... People predicted a quick Gooker nominee on this one, and it worked out to the point where there's more than a few on here pissed that he's not coming back under the Pirate name...
Eugene... Although nothing more than a glorified jobber now, people were quick to point at this as a definite Gooker winner, guess we were wrong...

Never got why so many posters around here kept sayin that. Because no matter how over and how much merchandise a certain act in the WWE sells, several people will seem to think they know everything and won't like it just because it's not their knuckle children blasting favorite guy. ![:P](//storage.proboards.com/forum/images/smiley/tongue.png)

I disagree, look at the crowd at any given RAW, literallt one out of two signs is a dx mark. They haven't brought in as many rating, granted. But the pre existing fans have turned out in droves for them.

I was wrong about Finlay's midget
I was wrong about Umaga
and I was wrong about Jimmy Wayne Yang being crap, well, the gimmick being crap, not the skills. He's actually making me believe in the gimmick.

I was wrong about Hardcore Holly and Test. I thought that they wouldn't fit in ECW, but they do.

But the pre existing fans have turned out in droves for them. The fact is that a few weeks back many fans tuned in for a Cena match and left when DX came out. This is not an isolated incident either. DX's biggest fans are mostly cheering out of nostalgia, in my opinion. They're like Hogan--only not as over and without his drawing power. If WWE would try something new instead of bringing back retreads then they might get out of the slump they've been in.

Yeah EVERYONE hated Umaga at first I am proud to say that I saw potential in the man while everyone completely shat on it... Here's a few more... Mark Henry's Return... People figured it would just be a huge flop, but he came off as a believable monster tearin' through s***... Too bad about the injury... The Great Kahli... Just kidding... Cross-Dressing Vito... Although I think it's still crap, he seems to be getting over...

I'm proud to say that I STILL hate Umaga. So there. Put Estrada with a real wrestler, like Benjamin.

He's my favorite monster next to A-Train.

When have I been wrong....hmm.....let me think.....
Last thing I can think of: I thought Kane would be just another big monster jobber a la King Kong Bundy or Giant Gonzales brought in to feed to Undertaker who would then vanish and never be heard from again.

While it's easy (and probably more appropriate) to point out our "wrong moments" of the last five years, feel free to mention anything from the Attitude Era if you'd like.

I was wrong about the Two Man Power Trip. I hated how they squashed the Hardyz, but then I grew to like them. They were bad and made no bones about it.
