Did anyone else notice in this time period that the announcers and commentators never referred to Ric Flair as the "Nature Boy"? Sure, they called him the "Real World's Champion," but never used his famous nickname.
Why is that? And why did they suddenly start using it again when he came back in 2001? I doubt it had anything to do with copyright issues, although that could be the case.
Any ideas?

I'm pretty sure it was a copyright issue.

I'm pretty sure it was a copyright issue. WCW/NWA? Buddy Rogers? Buddy Landell? (LOL) I have to wonder who held a copyright on "Nature Boy."

I thought they did call him the Nature Boy. I remember a promo with Roddy Piper making fun of the name, and I think some of his robes said that, too. I could be wrong, though.
I've always wondered exactly what a "nature boy" is, though.

Im sure I remember hearing ring announcers proclaim "The Nature Boy, Ric Flair" whenever he came down the aisle during this time. Positive it was on his robe too.

I'm 100% positive his robe said Nature Boy on it.

I pretty sure he was referred to as Nature Boy since I'd never heard of him prior to that and I clearly remember him being called the Nature Boy.

I've always wondered exactly what a "nature boy" is, though. Well to be a "nature boy" you do need to like nature. Liking boys I believe is optional, though I believe being a boy is mandatory. I believe the term applies to those with financial means to have a place out in the country to get away from it all when life in urban/suburban areas get too hectic for them. Which is why most wrestlers who use the nature boy moniker come from the Gorgeous George paradigm of prissy heels who have that air of arrogance and sophistication and act like they're so much better than the common man. I believe Flair did use the Nature Boy gimmick for his stay in the WWF in '91. I think it's just that the nickname took a back seat until "Real World's Champion" ran it's course/Turner sued over the Big Gold Belt and Vince pushed Flair to the WWF Title. I mean two nicknames in the same introduction sounds a bit cumbersome.
