With all this talk about how Kofi's first big push being over means that he's apparently now a midcarder for life, and about how R-Truth, Matt Hardy and MVP are apparently now too old for any main event push ever, I was just curious, what's the oldest anybody's been when breaking in? All that really kind of comes to mind is JBL off the top of my head.
And honestly, I don't see what the fuss about age is, depending on the injury-prone-ness of the individual wrestler.

I think DDP or Batista is the answer.

Batista's gotta be a top contender. Dude was like 38 when he broke into the main event.
EDIT: According to Wikipedia, Batista was 37 when he won the World Title from Triple H at 'Mania. Meanwhile, DDP won his first World Title at age 42.
So, so far DDP's the frontrunner.

DDP was 41 before he hit a WCW main event.
If Christian gets a push this year, he'll be 37, same age that JBL got his main event spot.
Iron Sheik won the WWF title at the age of 40.

The thinking tends to be, if WWE doesn't think you can spend at least 5 years on top, they won't give you a title run. This seems to have first came up with the subject of MVP and why he hasn't got a push to that level.
That, and before Orton got his title, WWE always seemed to be looking for someone young to put it on just so they could say someone other than Lesnar was the youngest WWE champion.
Other than that, I'm not really sure....what I'm saying at all, really :/

Slap down another vote for DDP being the oldest guy to bust into the main event scene in a major wrestling company. What made him able to step into the main event scene at such an old age (at least, in my opinion) was that he started wrestling full time relatively late for a wrestler. Didn't he have his last match when he was 47?

Vince McMahon. He was in his mid 50s when he had his first main event

Okay, how old was Bob Backlund when he lost the title to Sheik? And how old was he when he made his comeback and subsequently entered the main event scene again?
Yes, I know he returned after an original main event run, but I'm just curious about where he could stand in all this.

Yes, I know he returned after an original main event run, but I'm just curious about where he could stand in all this. Backlund was 44/45 when he came back to win the belt. But if you count him then you have to include when Hogan came back and won the belt when he was 49 But I think we're all forgetting about The fabulous moolah. She was 41 when she first won the nwa woman's title.
