There were never any pinfall attempts in cage matches. You had to escape over the top or through the door. Correction, Ric Flair pinned Harley Race to win the Title in a cage match.

There were never any pinfall attempts in cage matches. You had to escape over the top or through the door. Original rules were pinfall only. The cage was used for keeping out say the Four Horseman and kepping Flair in. That way there was a clean finish.
