I've never been one to dabble in the "dark arts" of fan-fiction, but that is where my recent Daria addiction has taken me (I need help ). Anyway, I've just read a series called "Legion of Lawndale Heroes", a series inspired by DC's Legion of Super-Heroes, but set in the Daria universe. Awesome read. Just a bit of warning though, there is some adult themes sprinkled throughout. So, share some good fan-fiction with everyone. And nothing too graphic because I do plan on eating food today.

I don't read or see anywhere near as much fanfiction as I did when I was younger (mainly high school), though I do recall fairly recently stumbling onto a Sonic SatAM fic that had Sonic X's Amy Rose accidentally transported to the SatAM world, and handled the concept very nicely. It was a fun look into different interpretations of some of the same characters, and the writer did a more than solid job with it. Plus, Amy seeing SatAM Robotnik for the first time was nicely written and adequately scary.
Other than that, I recall a writer called Agent Orange writing some wonderful Cowboy Bebop fanfics (really creative, very true to the source material), a few nice ReBoot fics here and there, but it's been so long that I can't even remember how to find them anymore without spending some time Google hunting.
I was also more of a sucker for funnier, parody fics, in the long run. For Dragon Ball fans, Pork n' Senzu Beans was a good site for that.

I have only read a few (all wrestling related) but my favorite was a Clue parody with people like Stevie Richards and Ivory

www.sugarquill.net/read.php?storyid=1721&chapno=1After the 5th Harry Potter book came out this guy wrote his own book 6 which I found to be pretty damn fantastic to be honest. Also after the 6th Harry Potter book came out a piece of fanfiction did the rounds which was so good that many people actually thought it was book 7 that had been leaked. I'll try to find it if anyone is interested...

Recently I found an Over The Hedge fanfic called "Only A Dream", which is a basic "darken up a kids' movie" fanfic, but winds up explaining a lot. Plus I liked its ending. ;D

I know this good running anthology of wrestling fan-fic ... where did I see it? Seems like it should be right on the tip of my tongue, like I'm looking at the title RIGHT NOW ...
Jed Shaffer ~Wrestling? Makes for a crappy fan-fic idea if you as me. But I didn't write the book.

But I guess you're not the kind to toot one's own horn, are you? ;D Toot.Excellence Of Execution ~ By the way... best post gimmick on the forum. Sure, I used it to make the point, but still...

I'm into erotica and, believe it or not, I've actually read hardcore wrestling fanfiction that was really, really good. Now, I didn't believe that was possible (and, obviously, I can't link it here), but the author used something I'd never seen before. Apparently, it's called "character development". I know it sounds like hokum, but it's the real deal.

Well, Simon, Neil and myself are fans ... and we wrote/write fiction stories ... so ... Yeah, I've never done THAT before. ;D Jed Shaffer ~I stole it from someone else. But I changed his hyphen to a tilde for a Spanish flare. Ole!

Here's a couple of good Red Dwarf fanfics.' Luck Be a Lady The Last Temptation of KrytenI actually toyed around with making a Red Dwarf fanfic myself explaining how the Cat became a skilled starship pilot, but then I remembered that I suck at writing. Also, it was accidentally deleted.

I guess because they want to write and share their work, writing for the lvoe of writing and combining their hobby of writing with a tv series/comic book/book/whatever that they're also passionate about. Also, it's stupidly difficult to get published It's actually difficult enough to get a 50 page manuscript read by agents so writing fan-fiction is a good way for writers to well...write & share their writing with others without going through the whole, horrible mallarcky of getting published Saying that I do get what you mean though, if your a good writer like some fan-fiction writers are maybe they'd be better off writing their own work and trying to get it published

In fact, I'd say fan-fic probably masks quality; ask any psycho Star Wars or Potter fan to write something that ISN'T in that universe, and their writing quality probably resembles that of a 4th grader. Only less crayon. Jed Shaffer ~Now, me ... I upgraded to Magic Markers years ago. The ones that smell like fruit. ;D
