In my mind, this is one of the very best feuds in the history of Jim Crockett Promotions. I think this feud had some very raw emotion, plus some great action to go along with it. Besides, it all led to one of the best Steel Cage matches to ever take part in professional wrestling, all the way from Starrcade '85.
Here is two clips of the infamous feud:
And here's the match in it's glory:
I'm curious to here what other people thought of this feud, as well as the I Quit Cage Match at the mentioned Starrcade '85.

Is that the one where he said he was gonna "come on" Tully? Or was it Nikita he was gonna come on?

The cage match is one of my favorite matches ever This match was one of the "extras" on The 1987 Jim Crockett Sr. Memorial Cup tag tournament video. They featured Magnum TA in the middle and showed 3 of "his greatest matches": the match where he beat Wahoo McDaniel for the US title, a title defense against Kamala at the Great American Bash 1985, and the "I Quit" cage match with Blanchard. I agree with you 100%.

But the Magnum TA vs Tully Blanchard I Quit is classic x 50 times. Everything Magnum TA at the time is gold. He was never a great worker, but def had a charisma to him. And he gave funny double entrendre gay promos that were classic.

The Magnum TA/Blanchard "I quit" cage match is definitely one of my all time favorites, I own it on my Best of Starrcade 1983-1987 video. I always though Magnum was a decent worker myself, although Tully was much better, one of my personal favorites. I love that clip where Magnum kisses Baby Doll, the best part is David Crockett screaming "she likes it!" on the mic. It's too bad Magnum had that accident, he had great fueds and was extremely popular.

That Starrcade match proved that a singles "I Quit" cage match can work out very well. The intensity of the fued was at a crazy peak during that match. It surprises me that that gimmick was rarely used again.

Not a feud I was aware of at the time it happened, it was only through the wonder of dvd I came across this a few years back. Yes it was excellent, and it is a shame Magnum never got to realise his full potential.

I'm not sure if anyone agrees with me here, but personally I'd like to see a career retrospective DVD on the feud between Magnum TA and Tully Blanchard. I mean it wouldn't have to be a WWE production or anything, maybe something like the "My Side" DVDs that Kayfabe Commentaries produced. I certainly think it'd be rather interesting.
Both men were so entertaining in the ring, I'll openly admit that. One of my favorite videos ever about Tully Blanchard is the one that I'll be showing right now:
It kinda shows you that even though Tully Blanchard was a heel, he was the cool heel..the one that the guys wished they could be growing up. The one where he's got the best girl on the block, the best clothes, etc.
Magnum was the guy that was also on the cool side of the spectrum. The girls would go wild because he drove a motorcycle, he had those looks, and he could take a beating, but still came back for more. Etc.
I think that's one of the things that made the feud so good.

Not a feud I was aware of at the time it happened, it was only through the wonder of dvd I came across this a few years back. Yes it was excellent, and it is a shame Magnum never got to realise his full potential. Magnum is a lot like Bret Hart. He had handsome features to attract the ladies, a tough-as-nails work ethic to appeal to the guys, and friendly enough that all the kids wanted to be like him. When he'd be in trouble, everyone would just scream and rally around TA to get out of that crippling hold. He'd clench his fists and pound them on the mat to psyche himself up, and the fans would respond in kind, clapping in rhythm. Even though I knew they'd be short, I'd mark for Magnum's "sub-30 second" squash matches. Tie up, whip into the ropes, "BELLY-BELLY! [/David Crockett]" and ring the bell.
