12am PT 3am ET on HDnet This is the new years eve show Fighting and Entertainment Group puts on every year in Japan. The card does not recieve much buzz here in the states but it does feature some of the best of japanese MMA. The card will probably be hard to watch live for the East coast audience because of time zones of course, it will be 3 in the morning in East. On the west coast, the live broadcast begins at 12am midnight. There will be several bouts pinning the best of DREAM and the best of "rival" japenese promotion Sengoku Raiden Championships. Those include DREAM LW champion Shinya Aoki vs. Mizuta Hirota(SRC LW champ). Tatsuya Kawijiri vs. Kazunori Yakota. Alistair Overeem vs. Kazuyuki Fujita. The Dream Super Hulk Final will happen. Minowaman will fight Sokoudjou. Strikeforce LHW champion GEGARD MOUSASI will be on this card fighting Gary Goodridge in a Heavyweight bout. The Judo gold medal winner in the Bejing Olympics Satoshi Ishii will make his MMA debut against fellow Judo olympic gold medalist Hidehiko Yoshida which should be interesting. There will also be a K-1(kickboxing) grand prix on the card. So, if you have HDnet i would recommend recording this card or checking in on it if you are awake. The guide has it projected for nearly 8 hours long. Lol. It's like the Woodstock for Japanese MMA. Official Fight Card (MMA) DREAM Heavyweight bout: Gegard Mousasi vs. Gary Goodridge DREAM vs SRC, Lightweight bout: Shinya Aoki (DREAM Champion) vs. Mizuto Hirota (SRC Champion) DREAM vs SRC, Heavyweight bout: Alistair Overeem vs. Kazuyuki Fujita Sengoku Raiden Championship Heavyweight bout: Satoshi Ishii vs. Hidehiko Yoshida DREAM vs SRC, Featherweight bout: Norifumi Yamamoto vs. Masanori Kanehara (SRC Champion) DREAM vs SRC, Lightweight bout: Tatsuya Kawajiri vs. Kazunori Yokota DREAM vs SRC, Featherweight bout: Hideo Tokoro vs. Jong Man Kim DREAM vs SRC, Middleweight bout: Melvin Manhoef vs. Kazuo Misaki DREAM vs SRC, Welterweight bout: Hayato Sakurai vs. Akihiro Gono DREAM vs SRC, Featherweight bout: Hiroyuki Takaya vs. Michihiro Omigawa DREAM vs SRC, Heavyweight bout: Katsuyori Shibata vs. Hiroshi Izumi DREAM Super Hulk Grand Prix 2009 Final: Ikuhisa Minowa vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou Official Fight Card (K-1) K-1 MAX bout: Masato vs. Andy Souwer K-1 Heavyweight bout: Ray Sefo vs. Yosuke Nishijima K-1 KOSHIEN 62 kg Class Tournament Semi-Finals: Shota Shimada vs. Katsuki Ishida K-1 KOSHIEN 62 kg Class Tournament Semi-Finals: Hiroya vs. Masaaki Noiri K-1 KOSHIEN 62 kg Class Tournament Reserve Fight: Tsukasa Fuji vs. Tatuya Kusakabe K-1 KOSHIEN 62 kg Class Tournament Final: Hiroya/ Masaaki Noiri vs. Shota Shimada/ Katsuki Ishida

This is on now. The fights have yet to begin. Sakuraba was just in there wearing a mask giving a long speech dedicated to Masato. I'm assuming tonight is Masato's last K-1 bout. Right now they are doing some We Are The World thing for Masato. There is a A LOT of people in attendance.
The Voice, Guy Mezger and Jason "Mayhem" Miller on commentary.

New Year's Eve MMA shows are a big deal in Japan. I think Pride started it and now DREAM is continuing it. These shows always have a mix of serious fights and novelty fights (Bob Sapp, the 7'6" Korean dude, etc) so it's quite the spectacle.

Minowaman KO's Sokoudjou in round 3 and wins the Super Hulk Tournament.

The animation and the production value is incredible to say the least.
And since it's in HD, you can see the crowd more clearly and tell where the Yazuka is seated.

Ok, I just finished it.
Minowa Sokoudjou was a work. Manhoef is a beast. Goodrige's reaction to the stoppage was awesome. Overeem is highly overated, and will keep that way until he actually fights someone competant. Gono'sarmbar was beautiful, I don't get the mullets. Aoki, awwww snap.
Overall the theme of tis vent seeed to be old veterans being destroyed by up and comers. Then the ain event happened. After the ball kick of the gods, an awesome decision.

Just finished watching it this morning. I made it past the Tokoro-Kim fight but then i fell asleep. Could not make it the full 7 hours and 30 minutes.
Good show. The most even matches were early on with Manhoef-Misaki and Gono-Mach. Impressive wins for both Manhoef and Gono.
Minowa and Sok was odd. It's typical for Sok to fade in the later rounds but getting KO'd by Minowaman is a bit of a stretch. I ride the Minowaman war wagon. It's fun....but that was fishy to say the least. Sokoudjou should whoop Minowa.
Ouch. Aoki knows how to break them, but i worry about how he fights against guys that can avoid having the fight go to the ground and have superior standup.

I ride the Minowagon as well, but Sok didn't even look like he was in the fight. And in the third round it just looked like Sok was waiting for a Minowa knockout, the only thing that happened that round...
That Aoki pop... ouch. Then he pulled a Nick Diaz.

Well, I have to say that this is probably the death bell for Fujita's MMA career. Might want to see if NJPW or IGF is open.

I did mark for Shibata. I remember when he tagged with KENTA in NOAH (known as TAKEOVER) and they were fantastic as a team.

Saw it today awesome event aside from the Mousasi/Overeem boxing-esque gimme fights and Aoki becoming the biggest dickhead in MMA since Bisping.
Seriously, f*** that guy. Awful display of sportsmanship and a disgrace to the sport of MMA. For once we have found a guy that makes Nick Diaz look like a saint and Michael Bisping look like Mother Theresa. Thanks for contributing to the stereotype that mixed martial artists are vulgar barbarians and sending the sport back another 10 years you asshole.

DREAM lightweight champion, Shinya Aoki has offered an explanation for the disgraceful behaviour following his bone-breaking win over Sengoku champ, Mizuto Hirota, saying he was hyped up following a conversation with the promotions event producer.
Speaking to Sherdog.com, Aoki said:
“After my fight, I was excited, and so I did something rude that I should apologize for. But that showed just how excited I was over that fight.... When I had his arm behind his back, I could feel it popping. I thought, 'Well, this guy's pride just won't let him tap, will it?' So without hesitation, I broke it. I heard it break, and I thought, ‘Ah, there, I just broke it.’ I was stopped afterward, but even if I hadn't been, continuing to break it more would have been fine by me.”
“When [DREAM's event producer Keiichi] Sasahara tells me to go and do something, I do it, and that's how I live my life. If Sasahara tells me to go to Strikeforce and take them out or ‘Go and kill that guy,’ I’m going to do it. Even if he tells me to go take out [FEG executive Sadaharu] Tanigawa, I’d do that too. I received a challenge from [Tatsuya Kawajiri], and so without telling him to shut the [expletive] up, I accept the challenge and look forward to our fight.”
There have been further calls to see the talented Japanese grappler travel to the United States to compete against the best either the UFC or Strikeforce have to offer. With the “special relationship” that exists between DREAM and Strikeforce that seems to be the most likely option… but you just never know.

Something tells me that if a UFC fighter said that he would kill for Dana all the MMA online nerds would label him a sociopath and crucify him on the spot.

i don't know...i've been on the forums and the boards are flooded with Aoki hate threads when this was really the first time Aoki has ever displayed such low class behavior. I toured a well known MMA forum that will remain unnamed that endlessly praised him for being such a "bad-ass". Act like a macho man when you cripple your opponent and cry like a little girl when you get pummeled. Some bad-ass.
