I got into Law & Order: SVU back in Spring. An online buddy mentioned that Belzer was choked out by Hogan at a show right before the first Wrestlemania. The WWF supposedly had to give Richard Belzer $500,000. What's the story behind that?

If I remember the story correctly,Hogan was a guest on Belzer's shortlived late night talkshow to promote Wrestlemania.I'm not sure if Hogan convinced Belzer to let him put him in a headlock,or vice versa.Anyway,Hogan demonstrated how you give a headlock, complete with wrenching it on tighter on the dimunitive host(you could see Belzer stumble from this a couple of times). When Hogan released him,Belzer was knocked out cold, fell like dead weight, and hit his head on the way down.Belzer threatened a lawsuit and WWF settled to keep him quiet to not kill their publicity for Wrestlemania.Since Belzer threatened lawsuit and WWF was so quick to respond with money makes me think it was Hogan's idea since Belzer wouldn't have a case if it was his idea.

Too bad we won't be seeing Detective Munch guest-hosting Raw in order to ratchet up his TV appearance tally.

If memory serves correctly, Belzer did ask to be put in it, I think at least. Search Youtube you'll find it.
Edit: Above post beat me to it.

The whole segment used to be on youtube, looks like it was taken down.
Belzer is a dick, he actually tricked Hogan and Mr T onto the show by claiming they had heaps of disabled kids in the studio that wanted to see them. Mr T was already in a bad mood and you could tell during the interview he was ready to snap.
I think Vince paid for half the settlement while Hogan paid the other half.

I don't care what's been said about this whole matter, Beltzer like that other idiot John Stossel deserved everything they got, Beltzer is one of the biggest actors/fakers in the world, Hogan barely had the headlock on him and I can't believe he had the nerve to sue Hogan, and actually got a settlement, if I was the judge, I would've laugh my butt off and threw the case out

I have always heard that Hulk Hogan was one of the safest guys to work with. I remember Mick Foley saying that he would let Hulk throw his punches at Mick's kids. I can't possibily imagine that Hogan would shoot on a talk show host.
It's funny to think that Belzer was taking advantage of kayfabe, and doing it a favor at the same time.
It's VERY funny to watch him drop like he was shot straight down from a cannon.

If you look at the hold Hogan appears to have it on pretty tight. Honestly though I think that Belzer won the second he asked Hogan and T on the show. He knew that once he started running down wrestling Hogan would have to step up and defend wrestlings honor. Worst case for Belzer Hogan takes it easy on him and he gets to talk more trash about how fake wrestling is. Best case is what happened, Belzer got to have his shocking moment on TV, and got some good publicity. Getting his head busted open so he had grounds for a laws suit was just a bonus.

Is it wrong to find it somewhat hilarious? Not at all, xD Damn, Belzer other guy is such a wuzz... that wasn't even a TIGHT headlock to begin with. Either he faked the f*** out of the thing, or his neck is so feeble he hurts himself every time he sneezes.

Either he faked the f*** out of the thing, or his neck is so feeble he hurts himself every time he sneezes. Watch it again. That is a tight front face lock, and Hogan even picks up on it putting all the pressure on Belzer's neck. At this point Hogan had legit 24 inch arms, and all he'd really need to do to lock the hold in tight is to flex. Any hold that cuts off the blood flow to the brain can take you out in seconds, and also has the potential to cause brain damage pretty quick if not released fast enough. From what is shown in the clip there is really no reason for me to think Hogan didn't choke Belzer out for real.

Are you saying Hogan's fists don't have assholes? Because his left pinkie farted so hard it knocked the 12-foot-tall, 9,000 pound Andre the Giant out cold, brother.

Here is the whole 20/20 segment on wrestling that John Stossel did including where he gets slapped down by Dr. D. I like John Stossel but he deserved it big time here. ^ In this video you see Eddie Mansfield show a bunch of stuff and you also see Jim Wilson help him. I'm not sure but I think Wilson was already blackballed by the time this aired. Mansfield was blackballed after this was on TV. Both of them deserved it in my opinion. Here is part 2 including the Dr. D smackdown on John Stossel. ;D Also here is Jim Wilson on the old Morton Downey Jr Show arguing with Dr. D. Wilson got on this show because of his appearance on 20/20. I think the most interesting thing about this is that Dr. D from what I have heard was already blackballed as well from wrestling but he still tried to defend it. I think this is when he was becoming a bounty hunter. ^In this video Dennis Caraluzzo who most people now know from the Rise and Fall Of ECW DVD is in this backing up Dr. D and others. What makes that even more interesting is that they talk to Paul Heyman on the phone.

Hogan told his whole side of the story in his first book. IMO, it seems like an unbiased account. Hogan said that he and Mr T were going to go on the show to promote Wrestlemania, but it was a busy time and they were convinced to go because there were going to be 50 handicapped children waiting there to meet them. So they get there and there were no children, but Hogan forgot about it and went ahead and did the show. Hogan said that on the show Mr T didn't even want to be there and wasn't talking, but was enraged and just kept pumping his exercise thing. Hogan said that he was just saying in his head "please, please Mr T don't ruin this whole thing". After a while Belzer siad to Hogan "hey why don't you show me some wrestling moves?" and Hogan didn't want to, and then Belzer asked the crowd "hey do you want to see him do some wrestling moves?" amd everyone cheered and chanted. So Hogan thought in his head "Ok I'll just do the most basic move I know that might not hurt him, a front facelock". Hogan said that he only knew how to do the move the legit way, from being taught the move from Hiro Matsuta as a way to defend himself. He said that if you put 5 lbs of pressure on it you'll pass out. So belzer and Hogan walk over and belzer asked him what moves he has to show, and Hogan touched belzer on the shoulder and belzer falls to the ground, and Hogan said in his book that Belzer was only joking here. Hogan said that his nerves were going strong and he had some adrenalin flowing after being worried that he and the wrestling business were going to be made fun of, and so when Hogan put on the front facelock, he put on about 5 lbs of pressure, and belzer dropped like a ton of bricks. Hogan said that he was panicking like crazy on the inside, and Belzer popped right back up to his feet and went to commercial and he acted like he was ok, but there was blood coming out from the back of his head, and he had to go backstage because he was having a hard time remembering things. When they came back from commercial there was a new guy sitting there acting grumpy, and Hogan said in his book that during the commercial they agreed to explain to everyone what happened. They looked totally out of character when they came back on the air. Hogan said in his book that he hoped like heck that Mr T wasn't going to go all crazy, but in the middle of Hogan talking, Mr T started to go all crazy. Hogan said "oh no" to himself according to his book and was like "please shut up" while thinking to himself. On a personal note, it seemed to me that Hogan's account has plausibility because #1 he admitted himself that he gave Belzer enough pressure to be KOed, and #2, right there on the show, in the middle of Mr T's tirade, Hogan said on the show that he was tricked and that there were supposed to be 50 sick children there that weren't there, and there were no denials from anyone on the show. Here's the entire segment: www.dailymotion.com/video/x8puo_hulk-hogan-sleeper-on-richard-belze
