My favorite part of the TV title belts was having the stations logos on the strap plates even though neither NBC, CBS, or ABC had a regular wrestling show. Most of the time wrestling was shown on cable or local affiliates. I always found that funny.

The Memphis TV title was...a television set.
Really. Koko B. Ware was the first champion. Jimmy Valiant smashed Koko's "championship" twice.

When midget wrestling was a common spot on the card back in the 60s and 70s, there were several Midget Championships. Over the years there is less interest in it in America, so it was done away with. even though I don't know what the hell intercontinental means. How is that different from World, Courtesy of Chris Jericho: Lol genius!

Intercontinental comes from Pat Patterson being both North American Heavyweight Champion and South American Heavyweight Champion after winning a (I believe fictional) tournament in Brazil. So technically, the IC champ is champion of North and South America.

The TV champion should get free cable tv service (including premium channels like HBO), ppv's and delicious Swanson TV dinners.

The Television Title is just that: you defend it frequently on television. (WCW Saturday Night, Pro, Nitro, etc.) While the larger belts get defended on PPV.

Regardless of meaning, I miss the days when we'd have an actual tier of single titles (World, Intercontinental/United States, Television, Specialty Titles). The elimination of third tier belts and the proliferation of multiple world champions has made elevating guys in a convincing fashion almost impossible.

Yes but they still defended it on PPV as well, well a least WCW did.

I don't know what the hell intercontinental means. The prefix inter- means among or between. This prefix often indicates some kind of a connection between things. Intercontinental. The second half of that word is Continental. Like the continent of North America. Therefore, the IC title means that it is intended among or between the continent. It's on par with the United States title, because the United States is *between* the other countries in the *continent*. Got it? Actually, that's a little off. If it was one continent, it would be "Intracontinental." As was said later in the thread, the I-C title "unified" the "North American" and "South American" "titles." It was really just a gimmick to get heat on Pat Patterson. But "Inter-" means among or between. Thus Intercontinental denotes a title defended between the continents of North and South America. And by Jericho's definition, would a Transcontinental Title be defended on UPS trucks and freight train boxcars? Oh, and Neal: I too love the NWA TV Title, and think that the last one in your post looks snazzy as well.

I think part of it was Patterson ribbing Pedro Morales too as he was the prominent Latin American wrestler in the WWF at the time (Morales was the 3rd man to win the title).

That silver and red NWA Tv tile was awesome. I really need to purchase a replica of that.
And then track down Tully Blanchard so he can autograph it.

This is the guy to get one from, the guy who made the original - www.midwestwrestling.com/championshipbelts/belts.htmHis turnaround time is pretty good, unlike some beltmakers.

Damn, you know, I don't want a replica belt. It's just not my thing. But the belt buckles Reggie makes are awesome. I just wish I could get a Winged Eagle or IC title version.

Another beltmaker created this belt for CZW. Would love to get some opinions on the effort.

Hey, it led to a great series of matches between Booker T and Chris Benoit, so, it was worth it. And, along with those two, there was a young upstart by the name of Fit Finlay who made a name for himself contending for the title. Actually, it was the Booker-Benoit-Finlay series of matches that brought Irish Dave to my attention; I've been a fan ever since.

It goes to show, so many companies drop the ball in having belts with distinct rules/styles/etc.
The idea of a TV title having to be defended in a 10-minute format, with certain rules applied that aren't applied to every other title, is incredibly intriguing and leaves a lot of room for creativity...so, of course, it ends up getting abandoned.
Maybe that's a part of why I liked the ROH Pure Title so much.
