Holy......unbelievable. Unbelievable. Unbelievable.
I almost can't believe that I'm reading this. They just...fired Mickie? No sendoff for her? After all the time she spent in the company wrestling, the most over woman on the roster? And she's just gone like that?
What the hell happened?

Shelton: Meh. Mickie: Meh, her character stopped being relevant and she became less hot IMO when she turned face. SMJ: Ugh, they should have done SOMETHING with him at least...his last appearance was flashing his abs to JoMo. JWY: Who cares? Katie Lea: She's Bloody British. Funaki: We will miss you buddy...indeed....indeed.

Shelton Benjamin - Contract was up, I guess Haas really did make it so he didn't re-sign. Looks like Kofi replaces him in MitB and JTG will replace him at the Game Tournament. This is sad considering I think he's finally reached Kane-level veteran title and we'll never see Shelton vs Swagger at this rate.
Jimmy Wang Yang - Failed wellness, but hey least if he didn't he probably could have stayed a bit longer. He was awesome, but not doing anything for months.
Slam Master J - I'm guessing without JWY he was pretty much expendable. Too bad we won't get Slam Master J vs Luke Gallows now.
Kung Fu Naki - Damn, but he had an amazingly long run. I'm guessing without HBK he had no back-up...or Vince got the Christmas pictures back.
Katie Lea Burchill - I saw it coming once they got rid of Paul.
Mickie James - It's sad that I saw this coming.

I would like to request that if they go on to release Tyler Reks or Lance Vance, we leave the thread title as it is.

If they aren't done, I wouldn't be surprised to see Primo be the next person gone.

If you agree to sign a contract with a "90 day no-compete clause" even if it expires, then you're bound to it, because you've signed it. And considering the WWE tends to have the upper hand in most contract negotiations, most talent can't afford to turn it down. It is possible to get out of the no compete.Super Crazy did.

As unlikely as it would seem, Id love to see one wrestler have JG4L on their wrist tape at the draft show.

I still think James capitalized Victory in her twitter status as a hint of going to TNA. Victory Road is in three months. I noticed that too. TNA would be a good fit for Mickie. She has already established herself in the E, and has secured financial success through that accomplishment. Thus the reduced wages and smaller degree of exposure would not adversely affect her as it would somebody starting out in their career. Plus the level of in ring talent in TNA's women division is, still, light years beyond that found in the E. She would have the higher level of inring competition there that she seems to crave.

I'm going to go cower in the corner & hold onto my Jimmy Wang Yang boots from the Wrestlemania Art Show, & cry.....cry myself in the horror that is Jimmy's release.

You know what's weird about the Mickie release? She was still in an angle, partially I'd admit, but she was part of that feud with Beth and the McCool Faction. So, they pretty much screwed beth out of an ally.

I'm pissed at Shelton and Mickie's releases but hopefully they will get used better else where. TNA? Maybe. If Shelton goes right after Kurt and Mickie goes after Tara.
It sucks for Funaki but I'm amazed he was still there quite frankly. I mean, Bob Holly is gone. As for the others, it was a matter of time.

Shelton's the only one in here who's a surprise, although I suppose Funaki is shocking in the sense that WWE's barely acknowledged his existance since... the 20th century, but kept him on the payroll anyway.
JWY and Slam Master J have been minimally-used comedy jobbers for some time. Katie Lea was being used on about the same level for the women's division, and Mickie James... I know she's very popular around here, but this is a long time coming. For all the excuses her fans try to make, her match quality has been growing extremely poor over the last year, and she has neither the mic skills nor the looks for WWE to give her a pass on that. Combined with moving on to a singing career (to say nothing of the reports of her being late on the European tour), there's enough things piling up that it's no surprise to see her gone.
As for Shelton, let's be honest, WWE's tried various approaches with him over the years and nothing ever clicked. A personality-free guy whose sole talent is that he's a very good athlete isn't what the company's looking for, and I don't really blame them. Most recently, they've tried to settle him into a "reliable veteran midcard babyface"-type role, but he's just not over enough for that, and both Matt Hardy and Christian can fill that space better.
Shelton's only been employed as long as he has because once a year, he does insane spots in the MitB matches, and it makes the bookers interested enough to unsuccessfully search for an angle that could finally make him interesting. This year, he didn't do anything at MitB, and both Kofi and Bourne have surpassed him for crazy spots (and they both connect with the crowd in a way Shelton's never been able to).
With all due respect, I don't think he had anything left to offer WWE, and I probably would've released him a couple years ago.
EDIT: And as far as who's the biggest surprise to NOT see listed here... I've been expecting Rosa Mendes to be released for a while now. She's used about as little as Katie Lea these days, and there's really nothing she brings to the table either.
