Funkai. Geez, it's been a long, entertaining, and just damn fun road. For years now, over a decade in fact, he's been with us. Today, they finally got him. He was the poster boy of keeping your job for so long, but it's over now. It was one hell of a great ride buddy. God speed Funaki, God speed.

Funaki can just go to Japan and do Kaientai Dojo shows for as long as he wants with Taka, Dick Togo and the original Kaientai DX.
Mickie proves that doing outside projects = kiss of death for WWE career for a female.
Shelton would majorly benefit from going to Japan. I can see him working in All Japan as they hire many former WWE guys (currently they have Viscera/BDV as Big Daddy Voodoo).
Katie Lea is probably TNA bound as she's a solid worker and would get good pay there. Plus they love their British heels.
Slam Master J/Jesse is going to be appearing at a local indy near you and probably nothing more unless Michael Hayes can get him hired back.
Jimmy Yang I can see working American and Japanese Indy's under his Last Dragon gimmick again.

I'm having a funny feeling that JR is about to be released. Mickie and Shelton were coming up on contract renewals and got chopped today. JR's contract is ending on the 30th. Something's gotta to give. They cannot release JR if his contract expires. Hell, even if they do, they cannot keep him longer than the contract would last for. I don't think Akio could have been Wellness because they have to publicly announce it.

I am surprised that Mickie and Shelton was released, I had forgotten that the other three were on the main roster. But I see Shelton going to TNA and Mickie just working on her music

Everyone's forgetting the third longest-lasting man in the company: Mark Henry.

Man, I had hopes for all 6 of them somewhere down the line.
I hope these are the only releases, but since they were all from Smackdown (except Katie Lea) they might not have gotten to Raw yet.

About the Attitude roster being all but gone...
WWE is like this. Every 10-12 year they completely renew the roster.
Look at the roster from the later Sammartino era, and then compare it to that of the Hogan era, and then compare that to that of the New Generation, and then that to the Attitude era...and so on.
WWE's renewing to a younger roster at the moment, which should cause or lead to a boom. Unfortunately, with Cena as the headliner, there is no boom. Cena is never going to be more popular than he is, and I don't see how anybody currently employed by the company could lead them to the next boom. I guess what I'm saying is, the man who will bring the next wrestling boom is probably some jock in high school at this point.

Although Funaki, SMJ and JWY were sparsely used, so its not a huge loss to the brand really. Still a little bit stunned about Mickie and Shelton. I can envisage them maybe coming back to the WWE in some capacity in the future though.

RE: Mickie to TNA, I don't want it to happen. In my mind, she's a musician from this point on. Though I do want her to work SHIMMER matches.

I think the true shocker here is the loss of Funaki. I wonder how Vince remembered he was on the roster.

Funaki was actually fired a few years ago, but because of a glitch in payroll, he kept getting a paycheck. They fixed the glitch.
Mickie was looking to get out, anyway. I doubt she'll show up in another fed unless she absolutely has to.
Shelton's going to be X division champ next month, because God knows Hogan can't push the home grown talent.
