What.
I mean... wasn't the whole point of the arrest to extradite him?

I have almost nothing to say that wouldn't get me at least a warning from moderators. Suffice it to say, I do not agree with the Swiss decision.

I'd like to comment, but I don't want to get banned.
Great job Swiss, way to take up for child molesters.

Good on Switzerland, not only did the plaintiff (I did in the first edit say defendant, just to explain later posts) want the trial to be dropped but they did the legal thing in refusing extradition due to lack of evidence.

Good on Switzerland, not only did the defendant want the trail to be dropped So we drop charges on the say-so of the accused now? Either that was a typo or you don't know what "defendant" means.

He didn't make a typo. The defendant DID want the trial to be dropped and wanted nothing to do with this. She moved on a long time ago.

The defendant is the person accused of a crime. The girl who was allegedly raped would be the accuser (or, in a civil proceeding, the plaintiff). So we've established that you definitely don't know what "defendant" means, don't know about the other guy. I'm guessing he made the same mistake.

...And there my hopes for a legal career down the pan. I did mean the plaintiff, however since the case would have been about defending her then I believe I am still in the right with my use of the language.

I don't exactly understand all the legal ins and outs, but from my reading of the article it seems the Swiss just wanted to look at the original file on the case to review it and then they would release Polanski to the US, but for some reason the US refused.

She was a kid when she was raped, it took years of therapy. The guy should be in jail for rape. Giving the man butt to the booty warrior.

Meh. Not surprising. I never once believed he'd serve prison time.
But at least he had to sweat for a while.
