Hey, and at least I have an hilarious moment when I have to hear that my brother has to be DRAGGED AGAINST HIS WILL to the midnight showings of the series by his girlfriend, and yes...he has to see Eclipse at midnight next Tuesday/Wednesday.

Eh, I know how he feels. I've seen BOTH of the godawful things in theaters - got drug to the first by an ex-girlfriend, and to the second by my sister, who is 35 years old (eight years older than me) and should have outgrown this kind of thing by now. ;D

I feel bad for her husband. ;D Worse film I was dragged to was The Family Man. Still I guess if something can be said about this phenomenon its the incredible image Bram Stroker created many years ago. It's gone from animalistic extreme of Nosferatu to the raw sexuality of stuff like Vampyres to sparkling vampires.

Either way, thanks Fulci, because you just gave me a good thread idea. ;D Had to go see How To Lose A Guy In 10 Days by a girl who didn't even end up going out with me. Never again. Funniest part of the movie was at the end where McConaughey and Kate Hudson are talking, and his shot's normal, and her shot has a fuzzy filter on it. Ridiculous. Oh, and for anyone getting excited for that Fright Night remake...give it up right now. Via Dave Rosiak's FB page... The crap that he says is going to be in this movie, if it sticks and isn't rewritten, is going to make your blood boil.

Not sure if this has been posted yet, but... Warner Home Video has announced The Exorcist for release on October 5, in a two-disc Digibook edition, packaged with a personal letter written by director William Friedkin inside a 40-page booklet. Both the extended director's cut and the theatrical version of this 1973 horror masterpiece will be included, remastered from the original camera negative. Three new documentaries, produced by acclaimed documentarian Laurent Bouzereau, are also included exclusively in the Blu-ray edition. Regarding the two versions, director William Friedkin says, "After my final cut of the original The Exorcist, I took out 12 more minutes before we actually released it in theatres. Years later, Bill Blatty asked if I'd consider reviewing some of that rejected footage (which he always felt should have remained) with an eye towards putting it into a new version. Bill gave me the best piece of material I've ever received and because of that and because the film had such a major reputation over some 25 years, I agreed to revisit all these scenes. When I saw them, I came to realize that Bill was, in fact, right. With technical advances, scenes that didn't work then could now be fixed with CGI and there were others that I thought strengthened the spiritual aspect of the film. Warner agreed and released a whole new theatrical print in 2000 which we called The Exorcist: The Version You've Never Seen. And I now agree with Blatty that this is the best and most complete version." Said Jeff Baker, WHV Executive VP & General Manager, Theatrical Catalog, "Generally speaking, sourcing relevant and provocative film assets for older films (30 years and older), is difficult, and more often than not, proves to be unsuccessful. The never before seen behind the camera treasure trove of material that consumers will see in The Exorcist Blu-ray release is one of the great finds in modern day home entertainment history. Laurent Bouzereau, an acclaimed documentarian, has blended this archival rare footage with updated present day interviews to create a masterpiece that will be treasured and studied for decades to come." Disc contents are as follows: Disc 1: - Extended Director's Cut (2000) plus Special Features * Commentary by William Friedkin * Raising Hell: Filming the Exorcist – set footage produced and photographed by Owen Roizman, camera and makeup tests, and interviews with director William Friedkin, actress Linda Blair, author/screenwriter/producer William Peter Blatty and Owen Roizman (new; Blu-ray exclusive) * The Exorcist Locations: Georgetown Then and Now – Featuring a tour of the iconic locations where the film was shot (new; Blu-ray exclusive) * Faces of Evil: The Different Versions of The Exorcist – with director William Friedkin and author/screenwriter/producer William Peter Blatty discussing the different versions of the film and featuring outtakes from the film (new; Blu-ray exclusive) * Trailers, TV spots & radio spots from the film's 2000 release Disc 2 - Theatrical Cut (1973) plus Special Features * Introduction by William Friedkin * Commentaries: o William Friedkin o William Peter Blatty with Special Sound Effects Tests * The Fear of God: 25 Years of The Exorcist [1998 BBC documentary] * Additional interviews with William Friedkin and William Peter Blatty: o The Original Cut o Stairway to Heaven o The Final Reckoning * Original ending * Sketches & storyboards * Trailers & TV spots from the 1973 version As an aside, William Friedkin's commentary for the 2000 "Version You've Never Seen" is probably the worst commentary track I've ever heard. He literally just narrates the movie and says what happens, not talking about backstage stuff or how things were done or anything. But I guess it would be useful if any blind people happen to be watching the movie.

Wow that looks like a nice Blu-Ray set. If the picture and sound transfer are top of the line I'll pick it up.

From the VERY old news file, I just watched the 2005 film An American Haunting for the first time yesterday. The movie itself is undeniably poor (and a movie with an ending twist that is mind-numbing in its stupidity, particularly for those like myself who are familiar with the REAL story of the Bell Witch), but the flick made me kind of nostalgic for the middle part of the '00 decade. That was a time when J-horror - both the original movies and remakes of said movies - were really big here in the States, and American Haunting was very much inspired by that trend. Heck, one of the trailers before the Menu screen is even for Ju-On.
I guess what I'm trying to say is that while I got a little tired of "ghost story" and "long-haired demon" movies during that period, that phase in horror history seems like heaven compared to what we have now. Namely, tepid slasher remake after tepid slasher remake. Maybe with the upcoming Ring 3-D we'll start to see a return to Japan-style horror? This reporter hopes so, although I'm pretty much alone in that thinking.

Dinocroc vs Supergator tonight on Syfy. I may have to check this one out to see how bad it is I just watched it and wouldn't be surprised if all of David Carradine's shots were done in a day. Also, they're going insane with CGI now. CGI dead animals is ridiculous...but a CGI Rock? That's insane. They couldn't find a rock?!

I spoke about it at length in this thread's Roger Corman induction, but damn...there's a small ARMY of people on this board that watch those godawful SyFy films. I'm starting to feel left out.

All movies don't have to be godawful if you have a bunch of friends watching it with you, having a good time and going all MST3K on it.

For some reason, though, I've never felt the urge to sit down and watch one of these things, which all seemingly share one of two plots - giant reptile, or...well, that's pretty much it.

I always wondered if a lot of those people are in on the joke, or are really trying hard to make a good movie, but is ultimately undone by...well, everything. From the correspondences I've read with Leigh Scott, former hack du jour at The Asylum, the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

I'm pretty sure that Roger Corman is in on the joke. Sharktopus pretty much confirmed that to me.
And as I said on my twitter last night:
Eventually SyFy is going to do MegaSnake vs. Giant Octopus vs. MegaShark vs. SuperGator vs. DinoCroc vs. DinoShark vs. Fred Ward.

As usual, I have very little to add here {having not seen 1.) a single TWILIGHT picture, 2.) a SyFy original since MAN-THING, or 3.) a recent PG-13 remake} I'm just going to add a crap-tastic review that doesn't particularly add anything to the discussion: HAUNTED HOUSE OF HORROR (1969) - Okay, stop me if you've heard this one before: a bunch of drunk and/or stoned teens-twentysomethings are bored (and a little horny), so they decide to investigate a creepy and secluded old house (and make out a bit). Meanwhile, there's a strange older man lurking outside the house, and it isn't long before one of the youths ends up dead at the hands of an unseen knife-wielding maniac (in an incredibly gorey scene, I might add)... Probably the most intriguing thing about this movie is the use of this slasher-movie blueprint about 5 years before BLACK CHRISTMAS's debut (and about 9 years before HALLOWEEN would kickstart the Age of the Slasher). The second most intriguing thing about the picture? Well, lets rewind a little and discuss the older man... Paul Kellet is his name, and he's been having an affair with one of the girl's in that group of kids, a brunette named Sylvia. Sylvia is desperate to break her relationship with Paul, but Paul shadows her wherever she goes. As Sylvia and her friends explore the supposedly haunted house, she gets frightened, and one of the boys escorts her out of the house and kisses her before she leaves on her own. Paul follows her secretly, but once she hitches a ride back home, Paul doubles back to the old house. Gary (sort of the defacto lead character) winds up the slasher's victim, and his friends (with negative records as a result of previous drug busts and the like) decide to dispose of the body and disavow any knowledge of his whereabouts. Paul knows all about this, and worries that a lighter she had given Sylvia might've been left at the house, and thus could be used as evidence against one or either of them, so he goes back to the house a few days later. {Spoiler}Paul, who has been stalking Sylvia obsessively and seemed extremely jealous of her canoodling with another man (boy), is pretty much the primary suspect. And in his later investigation of the old house...ENDS UP THE NEXT VICTIM OF THE KILLER! This is the second-most intriguing thing I was talking about. ...So that, along with some good music by Reg Tilsley, is pretty much the cream of the crop as far as this film is concerned. The rest? Some scenes with the police questioning those youths (one of whom the almost 30-year-old FRANKIE AVALON), a large amount of suspicion between this group of friends that one among their ranks is the killer, an incredibly slowly paced middle section, and an anticlimactic finale (though with a few moments of cringe-inducing gore). 2.4 stars out of 5. Overall, a pretty boring picture, but something of an interesting curio. (Finally, sorry if this review was confusing. It's been awhile since I've written one.)
