Last night I caught SLEEPAWAY CAMP II: UNHAPPY CAMPERS as part of a local movie station's Saturday night horror programming. Thought it was kinda boring (though the commercial breaks every 10 minutes don't help). I few moments were pretty cool, though, like the "Freddy" and "Jason" getting killed part. And there was a reference to "Charlie and Emilio" that I thought was kinda...cute? Seems like the only word that really fits. I guess I'd give it 2 stars, but its not really fair considering it was on TV with a lot of profanity bleeped (they kept the gore, though, go figure). Next week they're showing SLEEPAWAY CAMP III, but I doubt I'll watch it. There's a couple other channels with horror flicks on Saturday nights, and one of them is showing HORRORS OF SPIDER ISLAND. I'll probably catch that instead. Eh, if you didn't like Sleepaway Camp II, don't watch III. It's pretty much the second movie watered down, with less focus on the parody aspects, and basically just Angela killing people. As an aside, I LOVE Unhappy Campers. It's not just Charlie and Emilio - a lot of the characters are named after Brat Pack actors. Ally also gives the first film's Judy a run for her money in the "biggest BITCH in slasher movie history" category, and Pam Springsteen is also eleven kinds of aces as Angela.

Sleepaway Camp II simply cannot be discussed without posting this clip: One of the most downright cruel slasher deaths I've ever seen, yet somehow appropriate for one of the biggest "bitch" characters in that subgenre's history.

Wow, is this thread ever dragging ass. I guess none of us are really doing much that could be considered horror-related. It makes me want to count the days until October when this thread will be buzzing and we'll be going at a rate of at least 1 page per day. Even with Halloween still months away, we are getting some AWESOME DVD and Blu-ray releases before and during the month of October. So, with nothing better to do, here I am with the WC Horror Thread's Official DVD and Blu-ray Update On July 27th, we get the 1981 slasher film The Prowler making its high definition debut on Blu-ray courtesy of Blue Underground, and the long-awaited(?) Puppet Master: Axis of Evil from Full Moon, with both it and the original Puppet Master getting the high def treatment as well. On August 3rd, Shout! Factory continues its "Roger Corman Cult Classics" line with Blu-ray releases of Piranha and Humanoids From The Deep. August 24th will see the official US release of George Romero's latest entry into the zombie subgenre with concurrent DVD and Blu-ray releases of Survival of the Dead. I've seen this one garner some positive reviews as of late, so I'm definitely looking forward to it, personally. Just one week later, on August 31st, Anchor Bay will be releasing The Evil Dead on Blu-ray, with a plethora of goodies and both the 16:9 and 4:3 (for purists) versions of the film will be included in full high definition. In keeping with Anchor Bay's long standing tradition with The Evil Dead films, expect another Blu-ray edition out sometime next year September 7th will see the Blu-ray release of Adam Green's Hatchet, starring Kane Hodder in what the front cover claims to be "old school American horror". I can only hope the film, which I personally have not yet seen, can live up to this promise. While not strictly horror, I wanted to throw in a quick mention that Image Entertainment will be releasing Season 1 of the original 1960s Twilight Zone on Blu-ray on September 14th. New high definition masters have been created from the original film negatives for the show, allowing the show to be seen in a way it has certainly never been seen before. It is absolutely stacked extras-wise (even moreso than the awesome 2004 DVD release), so by all means, pick this one up if you're a fan. Feast will be made available on Blu-ray on September 14th from Vivendi Visual Entertainment. Fast-forwarding to October 5th, we firstly have the high definition debut of BOTH cuts of William Friedkin's 1973 horror classic The Exorcist. Whether you prefer The Version That You've Never Seen or the original theatrical version, Warner's got you covered, with a digibook being the icing on the cake. Also on October 5th, Shout! Factory continues yet again with its "Roger Corman Cult Classics" line, this time on DVD only with the release of The Slumber Party Massacre Collection, containing all 3 Slumber Party Massacre films in (presumably remastered) form. I have no idea why none of these are getting a Blu-ray release; I'm guessing either the elements are in too poor of shape for a high definition transfer, or Shout! just doesn't feel like they'd sell. I guess I shouldn't be complaining, considering the ridiculous prices the OOP versions are fetching on eBay and Amazon. Bring it on! ALSO on October 5th, IFC Films will be releasing the controversial Human Centipede on Blu-ray. For anyone who was a fan of that film, there's your ticket. The oft-criticized 2006 remake of Black Christmas will be released on this day as well, from Vivendi Visual Entertainment. October 19th will see the Blu-ray release of undoubtedly the granddaddy of all slasher films, and this writer's personal all-time favorite horror film, Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho. I've heard good things about the high definition transfer created for this release, and I absolutely can't wait to see it. Finally, rounding out the upcoming slate of horror releases will be William Lustig's Maniac, which will be released on Blu-ray on October 26th from Blue Underground. Phew! That was exhausting. But I must say I'm looking forward to all the horror goodness headed our way in the coming months ;D

Okay, so I watched the original A NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET Infinifilm DVD the other night. Picture quality was amazing. I listened to a portion of a commentary track (with a bunch of snippets of interviews with people involved with the film) before switching over to another commentary track (which was taken from a much earlier Laserdisc release of the film). A little informative, a little funny, with Craven, Langenkamp, Saxon, and I think the director of photography whose name I can't remember offhand.
Afterwards, I watched THE HOUSE THAT FREDDY BUILT: THE LEGACY OF NEW LINE HORROR (or something like that). Brief synopsis of New Line's horror history (ELM STREET 1 was a hit, so they made ELM STREET 2, etc. etc.). They obviously painted New Line in a positive light, rather than mention editing the balls out of something like LEATHERFACE: TEXAS CHAINSAW MASSACRE III. Basically just a 20-minute commercial (which I probably should've expected). And, while I've liked some of New Line's films, its a little bittersweet considering they've been folded into Warner Bros.
Overall, the DVD was worth the 5 bucks I paid for it. I may check out the rest of the bonus features later.
Sorry if this wasn't helpful TR. *shrug*
Also GuyofOwnage, great job collecting DVD/Blu-Ray release news. Sucks I don't have a Blu-Ray player myself, but maybe those Blu-Ray releases will make the DVD releases easier to get a hold of.

But I must say I'm looking forward to all the horror goodness headed our way in the coming months ;D Thanks for the rundown, man. There's some good stuff coming out soon on BD/DVD. Shame the same cannot be said for what's coming out in theaters. Predators looks like it's going to be a winner (although that's more sci-fi than horror), and Pirahna 3D looks like it could be awesome dumb fun, but summer's a tough place for horror. Thankfully, there's Fantasia. www.dreadcentral.com/news/38267/fantasia-2010-first-event-information-and-films-announcedI've always wanted to go to this amazing festival across the border, but never had the cash or time to do it. Sadly, this year is no different, as it looks like there's going to be some good ones, the Subversive Serbian set being a notable example, as the soul-crushingness that is A SERBIAN MOVIE is set to screen there. Lots of great stuff coming out there. Also, in regards to Blu-Ray, I'm dying to get the UK BD of CITY OF THE LIVING DEAD. I've heard it's chock full of extras, and that it's region free, too. I just wish that Blue Underground had been able to pull that kind of set together for their US release. Oh and then there's this little unnoted gem. ;D

How?! I mean, Friday the 13th wasn't the best horror film ever, but it wasn't complete ass. They went for a direct and back-to-basics route and it worked for the most part. Not all horror movies need to be torture porn.

I mean, it's better than that piece of crap. How the hell....you know, never mind. I don't wanna get pissed for a day. Anyways, since the thread has and will see better days in the future, we're at 25 pages on this part of the thread. So I have an idea to kill time and to waste. Let's think of a good name for the new WC Horror Thread. I mean, this will be the 10th version of it. We need to think of something good. Obviously not as great as this thread's title, but something awesome. EDIT: Remember, there's a 50 character limit including spaces, so to use a good template. WC Horror Thread X: [insert name here] Hell, we could even call it "WC Horror X" to save space. There's a good 6-7 characters gone there.

At any rate, thanks for the info on that NOES DVD, DSR. I've heard nothing but good things about that release, which means that maybe, just maybe, I might have to do something that I despise more than just about anything - double dip. I've made it a COMMANDMENT to avoid doing that whenever possible, and follow the rule to OCD proportions. Hell, I've only upgraded TWO movies from my VHS collection, Reservoir Dogs and Carpenter's Halloween. Lastly...for those saying that this thread has been dead lately, * points to sig.* You'll find detailed and lengthy reviews there EVERY Friday, and they're written primarily for you fine people in this thread. I wouldn't be opposed to people discussing them right here (hint). Of course, it probably doesn't help that I'm reviewing a movie series that seemingly no one besides me gives two shits about at the moment.

I think Friday The 13th gets the edge because it represents what pisses the diehard horror fan off the most: a soulless cash grab with no heart, brains, or panache. As terrible as H2 was, it was Rob's movie, start to finish, and a giant "Up Yours" to his detractors. F13 was just a lot of sound and fury, signifying nothing. I get the feeling the NOES remake will fall into the same category next year.
