I should have known, from what Blade was saying about the cereal on the Shoot Interview DVD, that Good Friends Cereal, specifically the Cinna-Raisin Crunch brand, was possibly not that great.
But I had to try it for myself. So, on a recent trip to a Food Mart in the U.S., I was surprised to notice all the Good Friends cereals in the Organic Food aisle. So, I promptly bought a box of the infamous cereal immortalized by Blade and brought it home.
Here is the cereal, by the way. (There are raisins in the box, just not in my sample)
I took the plunge and had a bowl. Well, it's not really cinnamon-y or raisin-y. It's not really sweet at all...it's pretty dull. I like bran flakes, but these flakes don't taste like bran.
The cereal just is...there, IMO. The back of the box encouarges you to "make friends with fibre" I fear that this is the sort of cereal that Rosa Klebb would serve at breakfast.
And what are the blossom-looking-things in the cereal by the way? They are no particular kind of taste. I fear they are just filled full of healthy stuff, and mixed up into a paste and then extruded from a tube in a factory. These are obviously not a shape found in nature, which is not what I hope for in a healthy cereal.
And yes, I realize that this is like going to a restaurant and saying that the food is bad and then complaining that the portions are too small...but why was the cereal box half empty after my bowl of cereal? And it was a normal sized bowl.
The cry of the Internet is often "Pictures Or It Didn't Happen", so here is visual proof of the taste test:
;D
Seriously though, I'd just mix granola and bran flakes and sprinkle cinnamon on them myself. I'm sure that the makers of the cereal mean well, but it just didn't work for me sorry...
I'll be keeping the box itself for sentimetal WCR-related reasons though. Thanks for your time...
