I think there's a need for more Eskimos in wrestling...I guess the problem is WWE rarely run any shows at the North Pole

if you guys are gonna name "racist" characters like akeem and the nation why not throw in hillbilly jim and uncle elmer? Um, gee, because WHITE PEOPLE made 'em up. Besides, HBJ was a ROLE MODEL whose good nature and personality tempered his charicature. He was fairly restrained for a Vinnie Mac creation! It was that time when WWF gave everybody jobs or roles and HBJ was no more than Gomer Pile, USMC, but not a marine and more likeable (though he couldn't sing like Jim Neighbors!). There's also a lack of 150+ years of history of white america being ridiculed' lynched and charicatured by the mainstream (ala the Samba Simba stereotype) If the U. S. never had the history of slavery and institutionalized racism and the bad stereotypes to go with it - an oddball character like Samba Simba wouldn't be offensive - just stupid.

El Matador was unintentionally bad. He was supposed to be about Mexican pride, but ended up employing every stereotype in the book. His finisher was even renamed the Flying Jalopeno. He was supposed to feud with DiBiase, I think it was based on him accusing Teddy of profiting off Mexican farm laborers or something (DiBiase was involved in some really racist angles back in the day), but that was cut short when Money Inc. was created.

For some reason? Heres the reason. People are people. People don't talk white, act white, talk black, act black etc...everybody is the way they are because thats the way it is...we're all the same inside. Shelton has a voicebox just like others do and the way he talks is the way he talks. Take that Mr Racist Views.

On the other hand AJM, you said nothing when John Cena was put up as a racist character for being a 'walking black stereotype'. Despite the fact that John Cena is, you know, white. I guess the idea that being that into rap is a state reserved only for blacks is ok with you. Otherwise, why single out Admiral?
Were Disciples of Apocalypse supposed to be white supremecists, or did the Harris Bros. go way overboard?

Read my last post, it states what needs to be stated. I disagree with the Cena statement too.

To quote Lance Storm "If I could be serious for a moment".... I'd like to clear up a stereotype. Not all skinheads... in fact I'd say A LOT less than half, are racist. I used to see skins at punk rock shows all the time, and most were actually EXTREMELY adament about being known as anti-racist. In fact, there were even black, asian, and cuban skinheads that I used to know. It is also a traditional skinhead/old school punk rock type thing to yell out "Oi!". The skinhead thing is just more of a working class/stick together type of thing, it is not intended to be a racist thing. However, there are groups out there that are racist skinheads, and unfortunately movies and the media seem to REALLY enjoy focusing on these groups and giving the majority of the skins a bad reputation. Thats exactly right. There is even a group..S.H.A.R.P. Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice. Racist have always taken counter-culture symbols and made them into racist ones. Ruining it for everyone else of course..

RD, what do you think is the most racist character ever? A decade ago, during the WWF's cartoon era, a friend was doing this neighborhood backyard fed when we were kids. We'd pretty much copy WWF characters gimmicks, and mannerisms, and he made up this character named "Big Brown Bomb", who was....get ready...an AFRICAN-AMERICAN Adam Bomb ripoff. And you thought you were the worst booker of all time. I wish someone would make a comment about Big Brown Bomb, just for the sake of getting a laugh of my friend who made up this insane thought when he sees this.

#1 Bigot...Col. Debeers...hands down Followed by his lookalike in the Truth (Bigot) Commission, the Commandant... (to this day I'm flabbergasted as to how much he resembled Debeers and even more as to why Bret Hart had to introduce them on Raw back in '97) Followed by the nWO (y'know, that JUST TOO SWEET sign they always did is how various White Aryan & KKK & White Supremists greet each other (saw it on Springer))...I also despise them because they were a vision I had 20 years ago about fan favourites turning heel and taking over a promotion...true story! Followed by the Nation of Domination (don't diss the man cause we'll both rush your mother (slang for rape--also seen on Springer)... Harris Brothers...they have Swastika tattoos and IIRC have on occasion caused a fury with various slurs in the 1st year of NWA:TNA... Triangle of Terror (Evil Sgt. Slaughter, Col Mustafa (Iron Sheik), Gen. (Sheik) Adnan)...for obvious reasons Teddy Long from 2003-2004 with his goons and the Bitch Jazz with his hateraid crap Jerry Lawler in his feud with Bret Hart/Owen Hart...heck the whole Hart Family Mr. Fuji, Captain Lou Albano, Classie Freddie Blassie when they managed "enemies" of North America (ie Fuji & Saito, Iron Sheik, etc.) Harvey Whippleman...nuff said Jesse "Body" Ventura...wearing a Buckwheat (Our Gang/Little Rascals) shirt several times on Superstars and Saturday Night's Main Event and then always referring to Tito Santana as Chico Santana from Tiajuana working at Taco Bell (Greg Valentine also said the same things) Slick...What the F--- is a Jive Soul Bro? Ted Dibiase...abuse of Virgil and all those people he humiliated doing those tasks...going on a tour of Tito Santana's "hovel" (a lot of love went into the building of this house) ...more (lots) to follow

I thought that was just a Kliq thing. Nash did that sign during his last days in the WWE.

Like I mentioned earlier, there is a world of difference betwen a character who's gimmick is that of a racist and a character who is simply pandering to racist stereotypes. I think it's importan to draw a distinction between the two. Again, someone like DeBeers is portraying a racist, usually to draw heat from the crowd and boost the minority opponent he is facing. A caricature like Saba Simba or the aforementioned Big Brown Bomb is simply a rehashing of a racist image.

Admiral Crunchy says(my quote feature is broke for some reason)"Shelton Benjiman...a black guy trying to be a white guy"
I'm not going off on Tilt and calling you a racist or anything, but that is a dumb thing to say. How does Shelton try to be white?
Just because you have a black guy that doesn't bling bling, talk about his ride etc.? He is what he is. A very successful collegiate wrestler now wrestling for the WWE, the same as Charlie Haas was. His character is similar to Angle and Lesnar, but just happens to be black . Now if he had Hank Williams JR. playing his intro and wore a cowboy hat, I might agree with you, but he doesn't.

Jerry Lawler in his feud with Bret Hart/Owen Hart...heck the whole Hart Family That's not really a racist, Jerry and the Harts were all white. And all he did was mock them for being losers and Stu being old. And he never made a us/candian joke those didn't come around until that bret hart angle where he turned the countries against each other so he'd save face and still consider himself a face/hero to the rest of the world. And Bret and Jerry were heels at that time so he jumped on Bret's bandwagon and all the hart family jokes disappeared. I will give you this, Jerry did crack a lot of asian jokes when they did that stupid angle where he kept saying Bret was racist towards asians so hakushi would attack him.

So he lives a hip hop lifestyle, that means he's trying to emulate being a black man.

Let's see. El Nazi should be added to this list (a luchadore doing a Mexican Nazi gimmick. Yeah. Surprisingly he was pretty over in his day). Heck, there are plenty of racist characters in Lucha Libre, most being El Texas types. Ya know, typical racist redneck stuff. I always thought the NoD was a play off the Black Panthers when they first started, with the fist salute and all. Col. DeBeers is a good addition to this list, but lets keep in mind that a wrestlers gimmick and their real life don't always converge. I've never seen anything from Ed Wiskoski suggesting that he is in any way racist in real life, for example. Ivan recently dropped Skinhead from his name and seems to be turning face in Jersey Pro Wrestling.

Yeah Mexican citizens do not like Chicanos (Mexican-Americans) and they refer to them as "Gringo" which shows you how much hatred is going on there. I watch AAA and Arturo Rivera do commentary and it is funny when he belittles all these "Texas" style characters.
