In Death of WCW, you mentioned before Bischoff came along, people felt that Schiavone would get the job, which obviously he didn't. Did Tony ever have a job behind the scenes, or was he always just an announcer? If he did help write shows or something, maybe thats why he always said "It's the Greatest Nitro in history!" He helped write it!

I think he should have, come to think of it.
Tony was in the business a long time. Like when I seen him on the Flair DVD in the early 80s I thought to myself that if he was put in charge he may have some good ideas and turn things around. My impression was that he was only around during the crappy times, so I naturally put him in the same category.
You know, during those crappy times he may have just been shaking his head in disgust too.

I think it was Tony who suggested (in a joking manner, of course) that David Arquette win the World Title. Russo of course thought that was a fantastic idea and ran with it.
It didn't matter that Tony was being sarcastic. But it's nice to know that in some small way, Tony was responsible for one of the worst hours of wrestling history.

I just finished reading R.D.'s Wrestlecrap book yesterday, and according to the book your story is completely true.
