I heard for the dvd release they redubbed sandman's music and the Dudley Boyz 's music. Does that mean they redubbed crowd singing the sandman's entrance?
I think that takes away some of the magic from the evening. They should just pay Metallica for the rights to their song just for the dvd.

WCW paid to use a Metallica song for Sting. I don't see why WWE can't do the same just for once.
I seem to recall ECW using Motorhead's version of "Enter Sandman" once in awhile. You'd think they could at least try to get the rights to that one.

The music rights are likely $30,000 for Enter Sandman for the DVD release.

It is possible that WCW owned the rights to some of the songs because of Time Warner.

The music rights are likely $30,000 for Enter Sandman for the DVD release. And you my son, have hit the nail on the head. While the rights probably weren't that much, it would probably be a pain in the ass (and cost a LOT of money, something the WWE doesn't have in spades these days) to get the rights to Enter Sandman. I still say that if you can get an unedited copy from a tape trader, DO IT. As someone that was at the event, if the only thing you see of the event is Sandman's unedited entrance, that will be all you need.

It's funny, they won't pay to use licensed music on the DVD, but even on the "Best of.." (Dudleys, Cactus Jack etc.) ECW DVDs that came out after ECW died, Pioneer paid for the proper music (New Jack, Sandman etc.).
So surely it can't be that expensive?

This makes me not even want to get the DVD now. WWE YOU CHEAP ASS BASTARDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Metallica is one thing but the WWE won't even pay for the rights to the WCW music Jimmy Hart owns.

Dude, it's not like we're talking a few hundred dollars. It's probably in the mid-high five figures. That's a lot of money to spend for just one song. If they included the song, they would have made a signifigant amount of money, and it wouldn't make up for the people who won't buy the disc because of the dubbed version

I just got the DVD today, and I don't know...I was considering getting a tape of the PPV version online, but I wanted the DVD for good quality and JBL's commentary. JBL's commentary, while funny at times, the really good stuff is few and far between.
Plus, they kinda skirt around the JBL-Meanie incident as they don't really show any good angles of it.
Then of course, some of the music is edited out, and the swearing is too. That'd be nice to have an uncensored version; I don't think there's too many little kids that watch wrestling anymore. And I've just made myself depressed with that comment...
So...I'm kind of on the fence, but I'd say go with the PPV version if you can get it. The DVD isn't really all that great.

If it's just sandmans entrance being dubbed i can live with that.
WWE maybe cheap to not get the original song but at least they dubbed it unlike the BBC in england, now they are cheap bastards.
