Someone said it best when they said that with that comment, it was clear the WWE has no idea what direction it's going in. Now more than ever, they're just throwing crap at the wall and seeing what sticks.
Yes, everyone knows it's fake, but it sort of damages the product when he comes out and says "Oh, all that stuff you've been watching? That's fake! But this....This is real!"
It was a royally, royally stupid thing to do.

what did you want him to say, oh yeah Lita was married to Kane but then was still with me and then cheated on us both with Edge and me and Kane had a plan to take him out, or some crap like that?
If he did, i guarentee there would be threads all over with people complaining, how stupid do they think we are? stop insulting our intellegence, and so on.
Or if it just wasnt mentioned, we would get the complaints about another droped storyline and no reference to it ever again, etc.
So they did the right thing, they finally showed we arent idiots, and we are capable of understanding the difference between storylines and real life. Matt and Edge have a real life situation, does that mean their match will be real, no. But their situation is, and they are giving the fans what they want to see for once. For once they actually listened.

No, they should've finished the EDGE vs. Kane feud, and then started a new feud between Matt Hardy and Edge, over something else, or maybe even nothing in particular.

For once they actually listened. So getting in a ring and saying "THIS IS FAKE!!!" shows that people aren't idiots? I'd interpret that as a huge insult on my intelligence as a viewer. People are missing the big picture here. By getting in the middle of a FICTIONAL show and saying "What you've been watching is fake" the entire suspension of disbelief has been undermined. It's not cool, it's not edgy. It's just stupid. I've never seen any other scripted entertainment where someone appeared halfway through and screamed "It's fake!". Yes, everyone knows it's fake. But you treat it like a move or television show. Once the illusion is broken, you're dragged out of it.

What are your thoughts, Mr Arquette? "IT'S NOT FAAAAAAAKE!"
Seriously though, I don't like how Matt admitted that Lita and Kane's wedding was fake. I don't mind an occasional shoot comment here and there, and I can live with storylines that are loosely based off of real life. For example, Shawn's current bashing of Hulk Hogan is acceptable by me. Shawn is definitely shooting, but Hulk's on-screen character can be interpreted to be very egomaniacal also. So smarks and marks alike can appreciate the HBK comments on Hogan.
Matt's comments on the Lita-Edge stuff though was pretty ridiculous though. I don't want to see that.

Once the illusion is broken, you're dragged out of it. See Frank Zappa's "100 Motels" and the Monkees' "Head". Great movies both. Don't know if Matt Hardy is going for the same thing tho.

If matt did come out and say...'how dare you break my heart and then do what you did to kane...your a w****'. That would have been pretty stupid and would have caused an uproar...no doubt. This whole angle is based off a shoot, so to admit anything less would make no sense. It's really a double edged sword. I also think that matt was pretty vague in his comment. Smarks like us picked it up...but i'm pretty sure regular marks, who are not smart to the backstage happenings and actually believe in continually of storylines. Well to be honest, i don't think they did. During the initial angle between kane/lita/matt. Lita always made it clear that she loved matt, and it's easy to assume that lita did in fact go home to matt during her marriage to kane. Since she despised kane. The same can be said about the whole fuss made over heyman saying to JBL, 'the reason you were champion is because triple h didn't wanna work tuesdays'. To us, it's a pretty funny shot at JBL and actually has some truth to it....but to the regular mark, it just means triple h is that damn good and would have beaten JBL for the title.

I posted this on the wwe board . . but seeing as the wwe section got taken out by a hurricane (or was it Rosey?!) here it is again . . .
If matt had left out the 'Kane marriage kayfabe shoot bit' he could have had two feuds in the bag . . . and it would still make sense . . . as they both technically slept with his girl . . . breaks down like this
kayfabe - i.e actual angle
Matt is with Lita -> Kane abducts and marries Lita -> Matt gets injured and destroyed by Kane -> Kane gets lita pregnant -> Lita actually begins to love Kane -> (the Snitsky situation appears, which we'll ignore, as it wasn't his fault!) -> Lita has an affair with Edge (in the storyline over Kane) aswell as Matt -> Lita switches to Edge and casts kane aside - > Kane hates Edge and Lita for having an affair, Matt will then hate Kane for his original abduction & Edge for having an affair with his girl too and Lita for being a Ho. -> at summerslam three way dance which matt wins . . . voila
but of course no fan can remember all of that . . . and i'm surprised i could make sence of it too

I think Shac is right in his point- there was never any indication of love in the Matt/Kane/Lita storyline from Lita TO Kane until Matt Hardy was off the scene, and even then you could say it was cursory at best. So as far as Matt Hardy The Character was concerned, Edge stole his woman while "his woman" was simultaneously living out her sham marriage with Kane.
