Was wondering RD if ya remember the Tower of Doom match, I think it was during the Great American Bash in 87 or 88, between the Garvins(I forgot who the Garvins team mates were) and The Varisty Squad. If I recall the premise for the match was that Kevin Sullivan had been going after Jim Garvin's valet and that they had this cage match, the actual first appearance of the Ready 2 Rumble steel cage. The rules were that 1 man from each team would start at the top of the cage for so many minutes wrestle in that small cage then the bell would ring and the door in the floor to the next cage would be open for so many minutes and both guys had to try to get into the next cage while new guys from both teams were entering. And the next guy entering the cage might have some bad luck that if oppossing teams guy didn't to the next cage it would be 2 on 1. And the object was to be the first team to get everyone out of the cage, oh and to get out of the bottom cage you had to get the key from Garvin's valet who was standing in the ring at the bottom of the cage. I think Garvin's team won but ended up leaving the valet in the cage/ring with Sullivan.
I thought it was pretty cool match except for some stupid rules to it. I can wonder years later Sullivan is approached, hey Kevin, we remember you were involved in this cage match what was it called, well anyway we're wondering if that cage is still around. Sullivan-Yeah it's somewhere at Turner storage drawing cobwebs, WCW guy- That's ok, well dust it off and put it in the new WCW movie about two outdoor potty cleaners, and changfe the rules to it so nobody will remember it's been done before.
Anyway just was wondering your thoughts on it, if ya had seen it, and if you remember who all was involved(I think they even took it on the Great American Bash tour)

The Road Warriors (Hawk and Animal), Steve Williams, Jimmy and Ronnie Garvin defeated Kevin Sullivan, Mike Rotunda, Al Perez, The Russian Assassin, and Ivan Koloff (19:55) in a "tower of doom" match... I found this off of some website. Dont ask me how they all got together

The way they all got together is as follows: The Varsity Club (which included Sullivan & Rotundo) were feuding with the Garvin brothers and Sullivan had a crush on Jimmy's valet Precious. The Road Warriors were feuding with the Paul Jones Army members the Powers of Pain but they left leaving the army with only Koloff & The Russian Assassin. Perez & Williams were just throw ins for the match.
In the months following this match: 1 - Ivan Koloff left the Paul Jones Army & feuded with PJ & the Russian Assassin, 2 - Steve Williams joined the Varsity Club 3 - Ronnie Garvin turned on Dusty Rhodes that night & left for the AWA shortly after, 4 - Jimmy Garvin had a concrete block smashed on his leg shortly after this match & was gone for several months. He returned to the NWA as a member of the Freebirds and had no involvement with the Varsity Club

I totally forgot about this match. I remember watching it as a kid. At the time, I thought it was one of the best things I had ever seen. They had a ladder that went up to the top cage and that's how the participants got into the top cage. There were trapdoors that went down to each lower level. Somehow, Precious ended up in there with Sullivan at the very end.

PRINCE OF DARKNESS DEATH MATCH: Dustin Rhodes w/Cassidy Riley beat Bobby Rude w/Scott D'Amore & Alistair Ralphs.. Bobby Rude scored an upset pinfall over Dustin Rhodes less than a minute into the match.. Several minutes later, Dustin Rhodes hit a bulldog off the top rope onto Bobby Rude to even the score..
The wrestlers had to put hoods over their heads for the third and deciding fall of the bout.. The referee got in the way, and Bobby Rude clotheslined him, thinking it was Dustin Rhodes.. Scott D'Amore interfered but Bobby Rude accidentally hit him with a chair not knowing who it was.. Cassidy Riley helped Dustin Rhodes locate Bobby Rude and whacked him with the chair and pinned him..
Yep...wrestlecrap

Yep...wrestlecrap I think RD means the Kevin Sullivan vs. Jimmy Garvin version. That Sullivan scared me when I was a kid. This was a "blindfold" match where they wore hoods over their heads. I believe this happened well before Martel vs. Roberts in the WWF too.

Thanks everyone.
I remember watching this match on the Great American Bash tape(what was neat on those early tapes is that they included the tour stops on the tape), it was like the first or second match on the tape. I enjoyed it, I remember watching Ready 2 Rumble years later and remember that cage had been done before of course in Ready 2 Rumble and later "WCW War Games 2000" cage the rules were changed and also add the Uncesored cage match was kind of inspired by this match as well, in at least some of the rules.
Just thinking RD if ya get a chance to check it out, may be you can post all three of the cages as an evolution of this match.
