some very entertaining potential stories. I considered entering but I suck at finishing stories. Kind of makes me wish it was a group thing

Wow, that's a pretty neat list! Jed, you might have to consider not just handing over the reigns to one individual writer, but accepting multiple candidates, because a lot of those stories sound pretty good. I'd especially like to see Fusient buying WCW, RVD not being busted for pot, the Curtain Call not happening, and the ECW crucifixion not happening. More than one winner? Well ... if there's really a couple five-star writers ... I may consider it ... The finished products will tell the tale, though. Jed Shaffer ~And if there truly is two equally qualified candidates, maybe I will draft two winners.

What if the No Limit Soldiers and the West Texas Rednecks did a double turn, effectively switching sides, making the Rednecks faces and the Soldiers heels?

Just to remind everyone:
The contest draws to a close this upcoming Friday. All eligible participants must have their stories by 11.59pm Friday July 31. I'll judge the entries over a few weeks, and pick the winner from there!
Jed Shaffer ~Hopefully, I get a few more entries ... only two people have turned them in!

This Friday, there will be a post officially closing the contest (which closed last Friday) and listing the confirmed entrants and their stories. Just thought y'all would wanna know. Jed Shaffer ~See your name on the main site! Feel the tingle of awesomeness! And this time, you won't have to use a cream to clear it up! It is indeed awesome! In fact I am copying that page right now, rightchere (to quote RD) to preserve my immortality for all time ! YOUR Chance to Re-Write the Book! Text By Jed Shaffer Stage 1 of the contest is now over (and I apologize for the confusion on the date … typo on my part)! I won’t be accepting any more outline submissions. If you didn’t get a stamp of approval to one of your concepts by now, the ship, she has sailed. We have officially entered Stage 2, where the approved entrants will be wiling away countless hours, honing their potential masterpieces. And, from the bottom of my heart, I want to thank each and every one of you who entered. I know I’ve got a bit of a loyal fanbase, judging from the emails I’ve gotten over the past six years, but wow … the number of entries I received in two weeks was staggering. I expected a handful, four or five, tops. I mean, this is like writing a short novel every few months; that’s a daunting prospect. I figured people would say “Man, you crazy if you think I’m gonna sign up for that!” Instead, I must’ve received, including the ideas I passed on, close to 30 entries, including ones that didn’t make the cut. So to say the competition is fierce would be the understatement of the year (or the greatest night in the history of our sport!, if you’re feeling Schiavone-esque). The winner will need to not just hit a home run, but show they have what it takes to go yard time and time and time again. Because you, the regular readers, the ladies and gents who’ve kept RTB alive and well, you expect it. It’s the atmosphere I’ve cultivated over the course of six years and three websites, and it’s what I expect from the person who steps into my shoes. Judging from some of the ideas I’ve seen thus far, I’m confident whoever I pass the torch onto won’t disappoint. So, without further ado, I’d like to introduce to you the contestants and their “what if” questions. One of the names on the list will go from reader to writer, and their winning entry will become their first Re-Writing The Book in September. Good luck to all, and once again, I thank all the entrants for their enthusiasm and commitment! The nominees are: Neil Cathan – “What if Samoa Joe hadn’t lost at Genesis 2006?” Robert Zarp – “What if Rob Van Dam had been Raw’s first World Heavyweight Champion instead of Triple H?” David Nienaltowski – “What if Steve Austin hadn’t walked out of the WWE in 2002?” Mike S. – “What if The Fabulous Freebirds had stayed in the WWF?” James Cobb – “What if Diesel hadn’t defeated Bob Backlund for the WWF Title?” Byron Czopek – “What if Rob Van Dam hadn’t been busted for smoking marijuana?” Rick Kulacki Jr., Chris Matthews, and Keith Dieter – “What if the MSG Curtain Call never happened?” Simon – “What if Kerry Von Erich took the Freebirds’ help against Ric Flair?” Alex Blinkoff – “What if Evolution didn’t turn on Randy Orton?” Jenn – “What if Fusient Media Ventures bought WCW?” Andrew Ney – “What if Bret Hart retained the WWF Title against Sid on Raw in 1997?” JJ Abraham – “What if The Alliance defeated Team WWF at Survivor Series 2001?” Jeremy Cundiff – “What if Raven didn’t crucify The Sandman?” Marc Dutra – “What if Ric Flair had jumped to the WWF with Arn Anderson & Tully Blanchard?” Andrew Koprowski – “What if Hulk Hogan didn’t leave the WWF in 1993?” But in all seriousness, I really hope more than 3 people wind up entering. Jed, I hope you use Hawaii time (the earliest, which will allow the latest entries) to end the contest. I submitted mine a while back. Again, good luck to all!

Well, it's closed. And no, I didn't use Hawaii time ... I live in EST, so EST it is. Anybody who couldn't get it done in the two months probably wasn't only three or four hours away from the finish line today.
And I believe I got a total of four completed stories. And only one or two people who didn't get it in let me know they were likely not to make the deadline. So a lot of people vanished on me. Too bad.
So, now I enter the judging phase. I'm looking to get that done in a couple weeks. Don't want to make snap judgments. Stories need time to percolate and breathe. Once I've read them and let them sink in ... then ...
Jed Shaffer ~I made that sound a lot more ominous then it deserves. Only a writing contest. Sheesh, Shaffer.

Well, here's hoping that whoever wins wrote a kick-ass story.
I know I basically gave up on the contest.
Reading these is always a fun experience. But after working on one myself.....yea, I'm never talking s*** about you taking forever between new ones again, Jed.
Any chance you can tell us who made it to the "finals"?

Alex Blinkoff, Jeremy Cundiff, Neil Cathan and Simon Rawls are the four who got me finished product by midnight this morning. Should have that answer by Friday the 14th.
Jed Shaffer ~Friday The 14th ... Jason sits back, cracks a PBR and says "it just isn't the same".

So, the winning stories are:
Alex Blinkoff – “What if Evolution didn’t turn on Randy Orton?” Jeremy Cundiff – “What if Raven didn’t crucify The Sandman?” Neil Cathan – “What if Samoa Joe hadn’t lost at Genesis 2006?” Simon – “What if Kerry Von Erich took the Freebirds’ help against Ric Flair?”
Well...some of your topics haven't exactly been iconic, Jed.
The only one of these I can see a major effect with is Kurt Angle in original ECW.
But whichever one wins, it should be great.

Just something with some weight behind it. Jed Shaffer ~There were a few I was really excited for that didn't get turned in ... ah well. Writing RTB ain't for everybody.

Not to sound tacky, but would you ever consider doing a rewriting of Benoit?

Not to sound tacky, but would you ever consider doing a rewriting of Benoit? Never. No way, no how. I was never even comfortable doing RTB's for Owen, Pillman, Eddie or Perfect. No way would I touch an RTB about THAT. And whoever ends up filling my shoes won't be touching it either, cause there's no chance whatsoever I want RTB's name on that. Jed Shaffer ~Don't take it personal, wasn't going off on you. Hope it didn't seem as though.

I was just curious, since the business at least for that time would be so much different from a PR standpoint, a wellness standpoint, and a quality standpoint as well. Outside of Punk's title win over Morrison and the Miz vs. Morrison match, ECW was just garbage for about an entire year after the tragedy. And I can only imagine the electricity and pop if Benoit had dropped the title to Punk in Chicago at No Mercy.

Oh, and an RTB for Eddie would be easy. We would've gotten Eddie vs. HBK at WM 22 probably for the World title, and thus would have never had to sit through the HBK vs. Vince and Eddiespoitation angles.
