Hey, want to let everyone know I just finished the first draft of my second RTB. It is entitled "What if ... the Gobbledy Gooker didn't hatch from the egg at Survivor Series?" Hey Jed, remember who I wanted in there? Not off the top of my head, no. But I'm also an old fart. Remind me of it, eh? One idea that has been rolling around in my head involves Sting not looking like s*** at starrcade 97. Uh oh! I know someone else who has been thinking about that idea. As the tag line of WrestleMania XVII went, Houston we have a problem. If you're both thinking of it, there's no rule saying you can't co-write something. Negative. I do have a Sting story on reserve, but that isn't it. Mine centers on Fall Brawl '96, and if the real Sting had joined the nWo after all. Jed Shaffer ~Only thing that stopped me from that one was a total lack of ending.

See, Fingerpoke of Doom has been done. Probably better than I would have done it. Which is why I'm not using my "what if Goldberg beat Nash at Starrcade 98". Also because I'll risk becoming "what if wrestler x didn't lose his undefeated streak at event y". Also I'm lazy. Edit: One idea that has been rolling around in my head involves Sting not looking like s*** at starrcade 97. Might not get written, but you never know. Maybe you guys'll get your nWo fix soon enough... yeah, the fingerpoke has been done, but not in the way I was thinking.

I did suggest once to having the egg be a way to bring Bob Backlund back.
I believe I may have been drunk when I wrote the mail.

But just like I'm not going to write anything based on the triple threat match at ECW Barely Legal, despite having some thoughts around my head, I'm not going to write a fingerpoke story. Because it's not a new idea. It's been done. Sorry.

Well Neil's full story is now up. It is great so if you haven't read it I suggest doing so. Amazingly Jed covered WCW, WWF/E, ECW and Ring of Honor in the time frame mid December 1986-early December 2005 for his so far 14 stories over nearly 19 years. Now RTB covers World Class and TNA as well and goes from December 1982-February 2007- over 24 years!
My new story "What if ... The Gobbledy Gooker didn't hatch from the egg at Survivor Series 1990?" should be out next week or at least real soon.

Any feedback anyone has on my story would be greatly appreciated, and would help me to know what people liked and didn't like, for future reference.

Yes, give this man some feedback, especially since RD messed up and put my email on his story.
Jed Shaffer ~Which I did let him know about. Hopefully, he fixed it.

I had to get these ideas out before I forgot them, so if they've been suggested or you've already considered them, please excuse them.
What if WWF was the company going out of business and Eric Bischoff was the one who "bought" WWF?
What if Paul Wight had never left WCW?
I know you said you've done the Montreal screwjob bit before, but a slightly different take on it.
What if Vince had screwed Bret, but it wasn't in Montreal (or even Canada for that matter)?
What if Steve Austin doesn't cut the Austin 3:16 promo on Jake Roberts at KOTR 1996?
What if Vince hadn't sexually harassed Rita Chatterton?
What if Vince hadn't failed in his attempts to branch out beyond wrestling (the old ACHL team, WBF, XFL)?

Here's a suggestion for RTB:
What if Diesel hadn't beaten Bob Backlund in 8 seconds for the WWF Title?
That was my suggestion, but I just procrastinated like hell and got so far behind that I decided not the finish because honestly it wouldn't have been wise for someone how procrastinates as much as me be put in to Jed's shoes.

You don't know how much I chuckled from this, considering my, at best, spotty writing schedule when I was active. Jed Shaffer ~I'd write a funny send-off line here, but ... nah, I'll do it later.

Well my "What if ... The Gobbledy Gooker didn't hatch from the egg at Survivor Series 1990?" is now fully up. Hope everyone enjoys! Honestly when I first heard the premise...I thought it was going to be like a parody article or something. "Gooker wins the title!" Instead, its really good stuff. Turned a (stupid) gimmick on its face and in this alternate reality, Taylor got over in his revenge/tarring schtick. And it makes total sense. Great job. What if Vince McMahon had accepted Eric Bischoff's "invitation" at Slamboree 1998?

Reminded me of Heath Ledger's Joker.

How about this: What if the Undertaker had defeated Shawn Michaels at Bad Blood 1997?
* The winner was said to have gotten the next title shot against Bret. Meaning that it would be Taker (who was on very good terms with Bret) facing him in his last match. No Montreal Screw-Job and Taker likely wins clean. Vince and Bret don't develop bad blood. On a smaller scale, perhaps Bulldog and Neidhart stay in the Fed.
* Shawn never takes the back bump on the casket and thus never has his back injury. Maybe he stays around after 'Mania.
* No Kane character. If Taker wins, this would likely mean no run-in by Kane. Perhaps Paul Bearer really was lying about Kane being alive, and he actually DID die in the fire (in kayfabe). This results in less crappy storylines.
* This would mean either Shawn beats Taker and still faces Austin at 'Mania, or it's Taker vs Austin at 'Mania. The former sounds more interesting to me. Maybe Taker's streak is ended early and Austin is given the rub. Maybe Shawn faces Hunter at 'Mania. Or perhaps Owen finally gets a big push.
* How does this effect WCW? Do they still do nothing with Bret? What about ECW? The possibilities are endless.

Awesome. Although the Wrestlegold bit grated with me a smidgen, although I understand it. Still, well done.

Loved the fact that the Legion of Doom were on a Survivor Series team called "The Justice League."

Very possible. Disagree totally here. They were locked in to debut Kane. They'd built it up too much to pay it off as a lie. Now, they could've debuted him AFTER UT's win ... say, he wins, the lights go dark for UT's normal theatrics, and all of a sudden, the lights go red, Kane comes in, squashes UT flat with a Tombstone. I couldn't see Taker being a transition champ here. But that's just me. Good question. Jed Shaffer ~Fortunately for me, I have two associates who, should one or both be so inclined, could tackle this question! But not anytime soon, since they both have their next projects picked out.

Comments to the last few posts:

Well we have to disagree on that one. I thought of that one and could NOT resist. Obviously I don't think that would've happened but it added a real light hearted ending to the story.

I did NOT even realize I had done that. Incredible. But those were the real teams and the circumstances surrounding their creation were not changed in my story. I was always irked that they took away the cool Survivor Series names in 1991, (as so was apparently Jed (see What if ... Randy Savage beat Ultimate Warrior at WM 7 (though I promise I came up with the idea to name the teams and the names themselves before I read that story))) so I decided in my version there would be cool Survivor Series team names in 1991. And it was Sid Justice's team, the Legion of Doom was on it and ... that's (alternate) history.
Fortunately for me, I have two associates who, should one or both be so inclined, could tackle this question! But not anytime soon, since they both have their next projects picked out.
In my opinion, this one cuts too close to Montreal not happening. Maybe Neil may be interested though that is completely his call. I will think about it though.
My current list of stories I am contemplating are:
1) What if ... Ric Flair had helped Dusty Rhodes against the Andersons after the cage match in September 1985?
2) What if ... Barry Windham hadn't joined the Four Horsemen in April 1988?
3) What if ... Hulk Hogan had agreed to pass the torch to Bret Hart at King of the Ring 93?
4) What if ... Bob Backlund hadn't lost the WWF World Title so quickly in 1994?
5) What if ... Sting had beaten Hulk Hogan cleanly at Starrcade 97?

In my opinion, this one cuts too close to Montreal not happening. Maybe Neil may be interested though that is completely his call. I will think about it though. I see it as something from which multiple things spin out of. Montreal not happening being one of many. One of the key differences would be Bret likely returning to the WWF at some point (since he left on good terms and probably still would've been misused by WCW) and Shawn not getting injured, this would mean that those two would likely resume their feud during Austin's push and perhaps keep their spots on top. Would Hunter and Rock take longer to rise to main event status? Does Vince still become a heel? Does Foley ever get the belt? And what happens with WCW and ECW? Problem is, such a story would need to be pretty long and cover multiple promotions. I really like these three. I think I'm most interested in the Hogan/Hart one.
