And having re-read it, I withdraw my complaints about the Wrestlegold bit.

I see it as something from which multiple things spin out of. Montreal not happening being one of many. One of the key differences would be Bret likely returning to the WWF at some point (since he left on good terms and probably still would've been misused by WCW) and Shawn not getting injured, this would mean that those two would likely resume their feud during Austin's push and perhaps keep their spots on top. Would Hunter and Rock take longer to rise to main event status? Does Vince still become a heel? Does Foley ever get the belt? And what happens with WCW and ECW? Problem is, such a story would need to be pretty long and cover multiple promotions. Let me clarify, because I don't mind long (as I've been told ) and the cross promotional aspect would be interesting. The thing is is that all these things could have happened in Jed' story. Bret not being used right, Shawn not being injured, Bret leaving on good terms, Bret coming back, no rise for Stone Cold, Foley, Hunter, different fates for the then big 3, etc. Now they all did not happen in Jed's story BUT they COULD have. It covers the same time period of Jed's story and is a very similar story. Now I am not totally ruling it out, but right now not on my to do list. But please don't feel discouraged sending me suggestions. I LOVE hearing them. Same goes with criticism (or praise). And while I'm at it, thanks all for the kind words on my (not) Gooker story. It is appreciated.

So what RTB we getting this friday, if any? Also, anyone interested in reviving "What if Shane Douglas never threw down the NWA Belt?" storyline that Shaffer had supposedly cooked up at one point or another but shelfed it? But yeah RTB has covered the major federations past and present so far. The world will end though if anyone pens a XPW edition.

Here's a good one that hasn't really been thrown around.
What if...Triple H was drafted to Smackdown in 2004 and stayed drafted?
I think that would be a bit challenging, as if this did happen, it would leave a MASSIVE hole in terms of heels for RAW at that time. But it's still something I'd love to read...or hell, even love to write, as I do have some small ambitions for writing a few RTB articles (even if it would be just for fun).
I look forward to the next article, in the meantime.

As far as new stories go, the Hunter staying on SmackDown is a darn great one. I like the Douglas keeping the NWA Title one, but I'm not familiar enough with either story to write those right now. Others on my list: What if Ricky Steamboat had beaten Ric Flair at WrestleWar 89? What if the Fabulous Freebirds had stayed in the WWF in 1984? What if the Von Erichs had gone to the WWF in 1984 (yes it was considered apparently in May 1984 www.dailymotion.pl/video/x8l6en_wwf-update-von-erich-family_sport )? What if ... Sgt. Slaughter had returned to the WWF in 1990 with his loyal American gimmick? What if ... Ric Flair had jumped to the WWF with Arn and Tully in 1988?

Well you can PM Shaffer on the Shane Douglas thing. He might even hand over his outline and research, if he's willing to give up that baby of his. For a brief wikipedia touch-up on that day: Douglas was instrumental in the development of "extreme" wrestling when he won a tournament to become the NWA World Heavyweight Champion on August 27, 1994. In an angle which only he, Tod Gordon, and Paul Heyman knew about, Douglas threw down the NWA title belt before stating that he did not want to be champion of a "dead promotion". He then raised the ECW Heavyweight Championship and declared it to be a World Heavyweight Championship—calling it the only real World Title. According to the Forever Hardcore DVD, Douglas only agreed to throw down the NWA belt after NWA president Dennis Coraluzzo buried Douglas on Mike Tenay's radio show. Shortly afterward, Eastern Championship Wrestling changed its name to Extreme Championship Wrestling. Capitalizing on the controversy that surrounded his literally "throwing down" the NWA belt and the promo following it, Douglas was encouraged to express his true feelings in interviews by the ECW bookers and began calling himself "The Franchise". This helped raise ECW's prominence in the eyes of wrestling fans and journalists and allowed it to become an alternative to WCW and the WWF.[/i] Others on my list: What if Ricky Steamboat had beaten Ric Flair at WrestleWar 89? What if the Fabulous Freebirds had stayed in the WWF in 1984? What if the Von Erichs had gone to the WWF in 1984 (yes it was considered apparently in May 1984 www.dailymotion.pl/video/x8l6en_wwf-update-von-erich-family_sport )? What if ... Sgt. Slaughter had returned to the WWF in 1990 with his loyal American gimmick? What if ... Ric Flair had jumped to the WWF with Arn and Tully in 1988? All sounds good, though I gotta admit, I don't see how the Sgt. Slaughter one could work or necessarily what immediate possibilities opened up. But hey, I'll read it with joy regardless. Most intriguing though is Steamboat winning.

When I brought in Simon and Neil, it was mentioned that, with very few exceptions, as long as the story fit the rules of RTB, they were free to run wild with questions. With a few exceptions, meaning a few certain "what ifs". These exceptions are ones that I might, maybe, one day, get around to. And Douglas and the NWA Title is one of those very few. Jed Shaffer ~Give it a year or two, maybe ... but right now, still keeping it in-house. In case the pen gets hot again.

Have you ever thought of doing one with some of the "unanswered mysteries of wrestling"?
Such as:
What if The Rock was revealed as the person who raised the briefcase during the Vince-Stone Cold ladder match at KOTR 99?
What if the pictures Baby Doll gave Dusty were of Cody and Dustin being held for ransom (or something; I know this one sounds stupid)

What if The Rock was revealed as the person who raised the briefcase during the Vince-Stone Cold ladder match at KOTR 99? It was answered, the next night on Raw. It was Bossman. Jed Shaffer ~Not exactly a barnburner of a resolution, is it?

Now that Jed mentioned it, I do remember it being the Big Bossman. wrestling.insidepulse.com/2009/08/20/the-smark-rant-for-wwe-summerslam-2005/Ladder match: Rey Mysterio v. Eddie Guerrero. This is of course for custody of Rey’s son, Dominick. And you thought that Matt Hardy v. Kane for the marriage of Lita last year was the height of silliness. Au contraire, I say. Eddie attacks him to start and gets a nice backdrop suplex, but Rey comes back with a monkey flip to send Eddie out to the floor. Rey charges but gets sent into the ladder, as the director is again fixated on shots of Dominick at ringside every 7 seconds. Eddie gets the ladder and makes the first climb for the briefcase, but the Big Bossman raises it up! Oh, wait, sorry, wrong decade

What if...roles reversed, Orton turned on Triple H and took over Evolution?
I don't know how that would have worked, but obviously Orton the upstart heel pulls a coup, and his former boss the top heel is turned into a babyface. Who knows, maybe Orton even goes through with the Edge teasing, and recruits him to fill in the void.

A lot of people think that because it wasn't answered in such a direct fashion. But Bossman did it to apologize for ... something ... I don't remember what specifically. But he implied he did it as a make-good for some transgression he committed that got him temporarily kicked out of The Corporate Ministry. If you can find CRZ's old wrestling recaps, he has it word-for-word. Jed Shaffer ~What with having seventeen plot twists per half hour in those days, it's no wonder most people don't remember it was Bossman.

Raw would have had the remaining three members of Evolution plus Booker could have turned heel, since he did so almsot immediately after the trade.

Who knows, maybe Orton even goes through with the Edge teasing, and recruits him to fill in the void. I've had variations on that idea. When Hunter does the thumbs down Batista just grins, Orton slips off his shoulders and pummels Flair while Batista grabs Hunter, spinebusters him and holds him so Orton can deliver the RKO. What if they didn't split with Orton being World Champ, Batista challenging for the IC belt and Hunter deciding he wants to live a dream and win the tag titles with FLair. H and Naitch.

This one REALLY bugs me, so I'll explain it.
Raw before KOTR. The ladder match between Austin and the McMahons, for control of the WWF, had been signed, but there was debate over the stipulations. The McMahons wanted it to be No Holds Barred, if the 82nd Airborne ran in on the match, fine and dandy. But Austin wanted NO Corporation or Ministry Members allowed at ringside on fear of termination. So a match was signed to determine which one would apply.
From History of WWE:
Steve Austin pinned the Big Bossman with the Stunner after hitting him with his own nightstick; Shawn Michaels was the special referee; due to prematch stipulations, Austin's stipulation for his KOTR ladder match against the McMahons would be that no Corporate Ministry members would be allowed at ringside.
Big Bossman was then blamed, quite rightly, for this failure, and beat up. Later that night, as Rock beat up on Taker, Bossman ran out and cleared the ring of the Corp Ministry, allowing Rock to tie Paul Bearer to a giant, smoke-spewing Brahma Bull symbol. Coz Taker tied Austin to a Taker symbol, see.
Then, at KOTR, someone, who couldn't be part of the Corporate Ministry for fear of the match getting thrown out, screwed Austin over by raising and lowering the briefcase.
The next night on Raw, the Corporate Ministry are out, laughing, smiling. They gloat, and then Bossman comes out, with his old school "Hard Times" music. He told off the Ministry, walked down to the ring...
And promptly hugged the McMahons, and was welcomed back into the Ministry, WHICH HE HAD LEFT, just in time for someone NOT IN THE MINISTRY to interfere.
Then Austin revealed his World Title match for that night, he won, and life went on.
The thing is that Russo didn't have them say, flat out, "Bossman lifted the Case". Hence it's used as an example of him ignoring to explain things, despite a somewhat clever little story.
Well, clever for Russo. And that's the problem.
