Ooh, I've got one: What if Verne Gagne had put the AWA World Title on Hulk Hogan, thereby keeping him from jumping to WWF? I would love tro see this.

No no no, A trilogy in 4 parts.
And my only problem with your InVasion is that Stevie didn't become Dreamer's Lackey in the Dreamer/Raven war.
And I'd try to be funny here, but it's hot, and my brain doesn't work well under these conditions.

No no no, A trilogy in 4 parts. That only works if you're Douglas Adams. Damn ... I shoulda thought of that. Jed Shaffer ~I'd love to see that Hogan/AWA idea too.

Yeah RTB has sorely been lacking an AWA entry. We got ECW, NWA, WCW, WWF/E, ROH, WWCW, but not AWA. I want Thunderlips as AWA champion!

Here's one I should have wrote for my application to the column.
What if Jake Roberts hadn't been drunk at Heroes of Wrestling?
The reason I ask it is because if the show had gotten at least 40,000 boys it was supposedly going to be continued on a regular basis. You have to wonder if it could have made some kind of a shift in the balances of wrestling at the time, maybe changing a few main key players in the major companies?

A smarter (and less hot) person than me should be able to make a joke out of 40,000 'boys'. But I suppose a "What if it had worked" question would be logical. Jake Roberts drunkeness didn't cost them buys, the show sucking did that.

Yeah and even if HOW even put forward a solid show at the very least, it still would have died PPV ratings-wise because its line-up wasn't exactly thrilling enough to people at home.
Speaking of Jake......What if Jake "The Snake" had won the 1996 King in the Ring?

I can't see how a show that was essentially a seniors tour would've had any effect on the major promotions, regardless of Jake being sober or drunk. Jed Shaffer ~There's more action at an autograph signing.

Agreed on Hogan/AWA. Very intriguing. That would have changed the course of history as far as mainstream wrestling is concerned.
Would be pretty damn hard to write though, unless you watched the AWA religiously back then.

Would be pretty damn hard to write though, unless you watched the AWA religiously back then. Yes, but not as hard as one would think. The Internet is loaded with video sites, sites with info on different promotions and wrestlers and sites that have results from various promotions. We are living in a different era. I did a story set in 1982-4 and I didn't even start watching wrestling until 1985. Granted, World Class used to have replays, was discussed in Apter rags, and I bought DVDs and VHSs. Again, it can be done. That being said, the Hogan story in AWA is not on my list. Was never a huge AWA fan. But, who knows? And even though there are only 3 RTB writers, any and all feel free to write that story. I promise to read it.

I promise to read it. 2 writers and a maybe-writer-if-he-gets-off-his-lazy-ass-but-mostly-an-editor. And I just wanted to make one thing clear, in case someone gets the wrong idea: anybody can go ahead and write it, but the only three who get main site bylines are myself, Neil and Simon. Didn't want someone to think this was a cattle call. Jed Shaffer ~Oh, and ... NEW RTB FROM SIMON THIS FRIDAY!!!

Let me guess: Simon finally gives us his Ric Flair-Dusty Rhodes story?

Yes, finally. A quadrilogy, in fact. Jed Shaffer ~I was gonna make a tacky joke about "quadrilogy" having to do with quadriplegics and group sex, but I'm SO above that.

Will try to get #4 out quicker. Not sure what I'm going to do. Was leaning toward "What if Barry Windham didn't join the Four Horsemen in April 1988?" but may go back to WWE. I think I could do either Hogan doing the JOB for Bret in 93 or Bob Backlund beating Diesel quicker. That would give me more time to work on the Windham story. Any suggestions on which of three you'd prefer feel free to post/pm/email/snail mail/call/carrier pigeon/singing telegram/western union/Owl for those wizards on the forum/or any other means of comunication you can find.

Simon - That was a very good, jam packed 1st chapter of your Flair/Rhodes saga. Can't wait for next week. I'm intrigued with how you'll book a Flair-free Horsemen stable. I just wonder who will be the "heavy" that will join them. Magnum? Dusty? Koloff? Fascinating.
As for a future RTB, you've just done NWA/WCW. WWF Would be a fun change of pace.
The Diesel doesn't interest me because quite frankly, 1994/1995 WWF to my memory was...to quote your editor...duller than dishwater. Maybe HBK goes main event sooner, but what else would happen?
Hart/Hogan could be fun, but how would that work? Both faces? Hogan goes heel because his spot feels threatened by this newcomer? Hart goes villain?
Better suggestion: What If Hogan/Flair happened at WrestleMania VIII, deciding the "Real" World's Champion?

We would get to see Bob Backlund as the anti-villain World Champion. Other stuff, too. HBK became main event at WM XI anyway and won Royal Rumble '95. We'd see. PROBABLY no heel turn for either. They had already dropped "Real World's Champion" gimmick over lawsuit threat, but it was still an unofficial thing. Problem is we've seen so much Hogan-Flair (just two after this tiem period in WCW and just 2 months ago in Australia) I would not feel the need to recreate it. But I do love the input. Thanks.

How about "what if Warrior stayed past Summerslam 91"? I know Warrior gets a bad rap, but he was set to feud with Jake and Taker before he was fired, and Flair was about to debut as well. Lots of possibilities. I mean, if Warrior never left after SSlam 91, he may have faced Undertaker at WM 8, and the world famous streak may never have gotten past 1992.
Hogan/Bret in 93 would be interesting, just to see how they would have been booked. Hogan was still very popular (to WWF crowds) in 1993 and Bret was just starting to build up his main event status. Would have been interesting to see who the crowd would have went for (probably Hogan) and what the reasoning behind the feud would have been.
