Distribution may be different in other parts of the world, but I snagged an Ultraman DVD set for a fiver at one of my local Target stores. It's dubbed, but for five bucks it's great enjoyable cheese. It also has one of the creepiest ident screens I've ever seen before the show.

There's a sweet little store that opened nearby called Five Below which is a "hip" dollar store where everything is $5 or less. They carry it in the $5 DVDs along with The New Adventures of He-Man, the first season of The Sarah Silverman Program and a few other TV seasons. I don't think the publishing rights are that high for it, as I had two VHS tapes of it years ago that I picked up at one of those "tool sales" at my town's local armory. I think they were like $1 each and that was probably '95 to '97-ish... back before VHS tapes really dropped to that price at least for still sealed.

There are 2 volumes of the Ultraman show out there, so be on the look-out for the other one.
What happened was the company that released them (and a bunch of other 60-80s kids shows) called BCI went under and liquidated their stock, sold off the rights to Mill Creek, a company known for cheap releases, so between the two you can find some really neat stuff out there now cheap. They had two other Ultraman-esque shows released as well, Super Robot Red Baron and Iron King.

You can watch the episodes dubbed or in Japanese with subtitles. And maybe this was just my set, but sometimes the English language version would switch over to Japanese, and then switch back. There were only 2 episodes that I really, really liked. The rest were so-so. Also, Fuji, the girl in the Science Patrol, was cute.

I've been watching it and I've been getting a real kick out of it. It's good fun.
I did a bit of research into the distribution thing there and yeah, I may end up either ordering the second volume on Amazon, or...just ordering the four disk set on there, the whole series for like...seven bucks. It'd be duplicates early on, but...pft, give the other DVD set to a buddy or something.

I've seen the Super Robot Red Baron set in Wal-Mart $5 bins but didn't know enough about it to pick it up, even if it did look pretty interesting. But yeah, Target is pretty awesome and they have some sweet random deals. I think I got the Mighty Ducks 1 and 2 for like $10 and the PC game Armed and Dangerous for like $5 on clearance about a year after it was released.

what were the shows that WTBS used to show in the afternoons in the early 80's? I know Spectre-Man was one, and another featured a giant Gold guy. I also recall when the villians who wore all black I think were show theyd just turn into a blob of black
