new.music.yahoo.com/blogs/stopthepresses/244580/katy-perry-faces-demand-to-pay-beach-boys-for-california-gurls/Basically, The Beach Boys are fine with the song, and like it, and don't care that it has a similar title and ONE line that is the same(Snoop Dogg saying, "I wish they all could be California girls." late in the song), but the company that owns the copyright to the Beach Boys song is NOT. They are demanding that Perry gives the Beach Boys royalties. So far in response, Perry has said that when her album drops, the version of California Gurls on it won't have Snoop Dogg's line in it. All I can say is....ugh.......*facepalm*

To clarify, Brian, Mike and all the other members have NOTHING to do with this. This is the label.
By the way, Mike Love clalling Snoop "Mr. Dogg" is simply awesome.

Okay, first Tommy Wiseau, that article i posted a week ago, and now this?! Is the world on a copyright infringement streak or something? What's next? Record companies going after karakoe bars?

What's next? Record companies going after karakoe bars? Shh! Don't give them any ideas. Pretty sure they have already lost that one. Something about live performances, covers bands don't really pay, neither do karaoke bars. Yet if you play a song on the PA you have to pay. I had a few publishing companies trying to get to me once.

I should sue her for her awful music. I think she is pretty much worthless. I would rather she did get sued, lost every penny she has, and get thrown out of the music industry. Unfortunately, that won't happen.

Not actual karaoke bars, but there's an online karaoke site called Singsnap, which I'm a member of. They lost the rights to popular Chartbuster karaoke versions for well over a year due to licensing issues. Singsnap recently just got the rights back. Granted this is karaoke companies taking it to online karaoke sites, and not actual labels/publishing companies of the individual songs, but it's very similar.
