I remember Raven once saying in an interview that he could make more money on the indy circuit than in the WWE. Also, with the recent release of Daniel Bryan and him being booked for a ton of indy dates already, I was wondering is it possible to actually do really well for yourself as an indy wrestler? I realize guys like Raven and Bryan obviously have way more exposure than the average indy wrestler, but how do they do in general? Are the more famous ones much better off, etc?

Most have day jobs. That more or less summed it up for me when I asked one time.

Most have day jobs. That more or less summed it up for me when I asked one time. Exactly. When i'm not taking bookings i'm usually working at the local gun shop as head gunsmith.

well theres a difference between most indy wrestlers and top indy guys like Danielson, Hero, Castagnoli, Cabana, Delirious, etc.
in an interview after being release Cabana said he made more money in the indies than he did under a developmental contract and as a jobber, but when guys are on the WWE roster and making money of merch and stuff then they start making more than guys on the indies

My friend Joe is still training to be a wrestler, but he's gotten some indy dates already with the local promotion to face their champion, a guy named Powerhouse Bill Hughes. I'm trying to get in to manage him, but it's hard with the work I do, I travel alot already since Joe has a hard time with promos in front of a crowd.
Anyway, he works in the tire shop at Sam's Club. However, the better you are, the bigger the indy promotion, of course you'll make more money with individual contracts than on one long contract with no monetary fluctuation.

Like others have said their is a big difference between Joe your local indy guy and Raven or anyone else that has name recognition or that has been in TNA or WWE. Just going by what I've seen in shoots and read in books about how it was coming up until they got bigger and then when they went back down to the indys for awhile. They all seem to say the same thing that once their name was associated with the bigger companies they could ask for money. I think I saw the shoot you were referring to with Raven. It's been about year and half since I saw it, but didn't he say he was making more with TNA and the local promotions? I could be wrong their so I'm not sure.

Raven might have also been talking about his days as Scotty The Body. When he was with Portland Wrestling in the early 90's they were on the road seven days a week doing shows around Oregon and Washington. I don't know how much he got paid to do that but Don Owen was always generous so he was probably doing ok.

The top indy guys will earn more than the bottom earners in WWE, who would only likely earn their downside guarantee.

Jimmy Jacobs has said I beilieve that his one and only job has been independent pro wrestler and that he has made enough to live on that alone.

All depends on where you wrestle. I talked to The Messiah (now retired since he has a family), and he stated when he wrestled he made enough to live comfortably on eithout getting a regular job. He was booked all over the country though.
I've heard some guys say that if you can get yourself booked in Europe, Mexico, or Japan semi regularly, you'll be set.
That being said, you can't rely on staying in one fed.

I have a friend who is a local competitor who has another job at PetCo, so you can't really make a living off of indie bookings.

I have a friend who is a local competitor who has another job at PetCo, so you can't really make a living off of indie bookings. At that level no. 95% of indy guys will have a 9-5. The top 5% will make a comfortable enough living.

well it used to be you traveled as much as you could and got you face seen as much as you could so you would become known and be able to make more money. With guys like Brian Kenrick when he was spanky. Being on TV only made him able to ask for more money on the indies and because he was low on the totem pole in WWE yes, he was making more on the indies because of the time he spent in wwe. The same can be said about a lot of guys who were low on the card.
But a guy like HBK, no there's no way he could make more money in the indies then he did in WWE.

Don't a number of TNA's people have day jobs?
I heard that Jesse Neal is a roofer, Taylor Wilde works in a coffee shop, and ODB is a bartender.

I only make between 100 and 175 per booking so I still work at a Zaxby's...though weeks when I can get more bookings are always nice I can't live off wrestling at this point...hopefully one day I'll be able to though
