Back when he was leading World Elite, I really thought he would definitely become a main eventer. I figured World Elite would eventually defeat the Main Event Mafia and that would catapult EY into the heavyweight title picture.
But Now?
Its seems like he dropped his serious gimmick, which they never really gave a shot, for a crazy/goofy gimmick, and honestly I dont see this helping out his career. I feel he is stuck dwelling in the midcards. Agree/Disagree? Predictions for Eric's future? Is he ever gonna be a main eventer?

I think the mannequin gimmick could be both hilarious and genius if used in the right context, say Mick Foley losing his mind and going after the tag titles, but it's too bad that EY got saddled with it. I actually enjoy serious Eric Young and wish they would've stuck with that, but he seems to be doing the best with what they are giving him.

I really enjoyed EY's serious streak, including busting out the piledriver.

I loved the World Elite angle. It's too bad it got killed by the Hogan Era for whatever reason. Only member who's better off now is Doug. And yeah, I think leader of World Elite would have lead to Main Event Eric Young too.
I guess losing Sheik was seen as a major loss or something. Sheik was really good at drawing heat so I get it, but I wish the group was still together.

It's a shame TNA has shotgun booking. Every time they've ever made Eric the "DDP" of TNA, it feels right like when he jumped Hall and Waltman and the crowd was just going wild. It could have been a defining moment..
However, TNA just can't get the idea that someone can't just get over on being a guy that the fans love.. and tinker with it too much.
Such a shame.

I'm still surprised they actually haven't fired Eric.
Petey Williams and Robert Roode were the standouts of Team Canada but they butchered Williams by turning him into "Maple Leaf Muscle" aka BBP Jr. And Roode was given a shot as a single star but has once again returned to the tag team ranks where it looks like he is always going to stay despite seeming to have all the tools to be a great singles star if pushed.
Eric Young has been used so much to the point he's not only over-exposed but he's stale and practially useless. The attire he has now makes him look more serious but he's carrying around a mannequin (which I find hilarious btw). That is not a way to get a guy over. He needs a gimmick....a unique fighting style....something to make people care. People genuinely want to like him....but TNA keeps kicking dirt in their faces for it.

I actually liked Petey Williams' Maple Leaf Muscle phase.

Serious Eric was the only time I've ever remotely liked him.
Him returning to the goofy character guarantees he's a channel changer again for me.

It's nice to see that now people like Eric Young's World Elite persona. I agree that it didn't get much of a chance, even though it was quite good. I don't see the played-out silly Eric Young routine going anywhere.

Since he's apparently a windowlicker now, a whole ceiling made of glass could keep him busy for weeks.

This is the role EY was born to play. I HATED him as a SRS heel. I just couldn't buy it. The most entertaining he's ever been was when he was afraid of his pyro.

EY's silly again? Damn. I mean, I'm a little conflicted, because, on the one hand, EY's REALLY, REALLY good at that kinda gimmick, but, on the other hand, it's really hard for guys with that kinda gimmick to get over in the long term. Who knows where it will go, though.

Dudes I have loced him under all guises(even as super eric) but there comes a time when you have to step back and think about it for a second from the biz standpoint. He is a good and loyal worker. He can go bell to bell. But everything you have tried has failed and he is not over. 8 years and now he dosn't even get the impact zone pop. Next round of contract renegotiations, oput him on a per appearence deal

A glass ceiling implies that a guy has tremendous talent but is held down by the man. Eric Young is a marginal talent who can be semi amusing in a comedy role, but he's not especially good in the ring and he was a total joke as a serious heel. Who would possibly follow a guy that had been such a goof?
Incidentally, what is with the bizarre love for the World Elite on this board? What a lame, thrown together faction. I know there's a certain nostalgia for pre Hogan/Bischoff era TNA, but this is carrying it a bit too far. World Elite were a bunch of JTTS guys that were heels because they were any other nationality but American.

I think he's actually right where he should be. There is a place for comedic characters (Santino Marella, anyone?). EY entertained me this past week for the first time in ages. I seriously laughed out loud at the mannequin stuff. If nothing else, being TNA's version of Santino can be good job security, and not every single guy can be a main eventer. I mean, I haven't seen one sliver of main event potential in this guy. I just don't see it, I mean, at all, regardless of storyline or push. So, I will enjoy this run, I think.

This is the gimmick that works for Young, if you ask me. Call me crazy, but EY just doesn't have main event credibility or ability. He's stuck in the mid card because he is a mid carder, and can't really work as anything else.

Not really a nostalgia issue here. British Invasion, Homicide, Bashir, and Young were getting put over the Main Event Mafia. That was a good thing and made them not quite seem like JTTS. The reason that Young was treated on this board as a "total joke as a serious heel" was because of his history of gimmicks like the one he has now. But despite the reaction some had of "I'm supposed to believe Super Eric is leading a heel group?", he transitioned well into the role and I liked the direction they were going. Largely, I'm fine with what the product is right now. But simply dropping the World Elite is one of the things I wished they hadn't done so suddenly.

I too liked the WE faction and hated Muggin' Young. Something about EY only makes him work as a heel in my eyes. I think its the rapeface.
