Mehh UFC and wrestling are two different things. One major thing is that UFC doesn't make the stars, the stars make themselves. UFC made it a win-win situation even when the "right guy" doesnt win. Rampage Jackson was brought in as the last stop as their top guy Chuck was avenging his losses. When Rampage knocked him out, Rampage became a main eventer. The same thing with Lesnar and Mir. Its a law of diminishing returns when you have the exact same guys headline PPVs 12-14 times a year, UFC has the ability to make a host of guys appear as important. they kinda have to make them look like threats because MMA is un predictable, and theres a chance anyone can get lucky. But still the people who are stars of ufc still got there by mostly there own hard work. you can't push someone who loses matches all the time, and you can not de push someone who wins all the time.

but even then he has to win to make him a star. If brock continually lost he would not be a ufc star, no matter how much ufc promoted him. Cough KIMBO SLICE Cough kimbo made him self a star... in fact ufc seemed to try to de push him...

kimbo made him self a star... in fact ufc seemed to try to de push him... Yeah, Kimbo was a real "star". Beating up a bunch of scrubs at barbecues on Youtube and yet he couldn't defeat even the weakest of UFC fighters. The only reason anyone ever cared about him was the fact that his zombie fans from Youtube couldn't get it through their thick skulls that the emperor was nekkid and Kimbo couldn't fight worth crap. At least Dana made alot of money out of his failures before people wised up. Yeah, UFC really "depushed" him all right

I wonder how long it is before Bob Carter gets sick of TNA?
Supposedly, in 2005, he told Dutch Martell if things didn't change, he was pulling the plug. But then the spike tv deal happened, so that satisfied them for a while. I think the problem now is, they've had the best chance they'll ever have to make it big, failed miserably, and are losing money again.

To be fair, Dutch actually did get the plug pulled on himself. It won't be the company itself that takes the big hit at first, but rather the employees of it.
(waits for Russo to finally get fired, and all the "fire Russo" realize in two months the product is even worse because Bischoff is now undisputed creative overlord)

Russo has gotten better as a booker. He's still fairly terrible, but is a long way off the crappiness of 2000 Nitro.
He still has the same mentality (SWERVES! FEUDING TAG PARTNERS!TITLES ARE PROPS) but he's toned himself down a lot, which suggests some of the criticisms got to him.

I liked his solo run after Dutch's canning in the second half of 2009. Probably had the most wrestling-oriented and least Russorific booking ever. Plus it made Desmond look badass.

The creative prospects may have improved (and I don't see much evidence of that myself), but there is no connection between that and finances or popularity. I think if you said to anyone last year when TNA was pulling in 1.2-1.3 that they could add Flair, Hogan, Anderson, RVD and Hardy and rate LOWER, they would regard that as an outright disaster and a terrible sign for the company. But then if you explained it was after a failed move to Monday Nights and the ratings now aren't drastically lower and are very consistent they'd probably understand a little better. Well yeah, they'd understand that the company is screwed because of idiotic business decisions. That doesn't make it any less of a disaster.

Smoky Mountain went under despite the backing of Rick Rubin, Okay I know this is a little off-subject, but is the Rick Rubin who backed Smokey Mountain the album producer Rick Rubin?

f4w newsletter. Okay, and before anyone starts the NEWZ stuff, it's pretty known they aren't in a great shape finanacially, and have had to do a some budget cuts (4 tapings in one week, Madison coming out by herself). Also, people were accusing Meltzer and Alvarez of "NEWZ" in 2000 when they were reporting about all the money WCW were losing. On one hand, I really wouldn't be surprised if this report turned out to be true, but on the other hand...we can't know for sure. None of us works at TNA so we simply can't know for sure about the company's financial situation unless we're there firsthand. Companies do not freely go around divulging their own financial doom. Despite Dixie's, Bischoff's, and Hogan's bungling, Spike TV would never let that out. Spike TV doesn't own TNA, so they don't have TNA's books either.
