I personally hate dress codes for restaurants beyond the "No shirt, no shoes, no service" rule. Pants optional, though!
I mean these guys were in their 90's. I'd just give them a pass and be on with it. At least they got free booze out of it.

When are we as a society going to grow up, move on, and realize all this bulls*** doesn't matter? Stop freaking out because someones not wearing a button down shirt, or isn't wearing a tie, or whatever crap people "decided" looks good... Dress codes are in place for a reason. I don't care that they're WW II vets- the rules are in place and they should be the same for everyone. Sorry, but serving in a war doesn't make you exempt from the rules we all have to follow. |

I won't eat at a place with a dress code. If they don't want my money while I'm dressed in my Dead Kennedy hoodie then I'm more than happy to give it to an establishment that does.

And I'm perfectly happy with that. I see no reason to jump through hoops in order to give my money to someone to serve me over priced food. |

The only time I "dress up" to eat (which is like, a nice sweater, khakis, and black sneakers) is for a special occasion. I refuse to eat at any place that requires something nicer isn't worth my time as I expect it to be ridiculously expensive and with those sort of places you usually pay for the name and reputation instead of good food.

Please, old people don't need to eat in restaurants. They need to be isolated and studied so it can be determined what nutrients they have that might be extracted for our personal use.

Just because they were world war 2 veterans could break the rules of a restaurant? C'mon, those soldiers deserve all the respect for serving their country in such an important war like the WWII was, but fight there doesn't mean that you can go just there and defy the rules of a restaurant, or any other established site. I'm sorry, I can't see any justification to side with the veterans in this case, I think that they look like jerks, it's so hard to go with pants instead of shorts? It's not like we're talking criminal law here. It's a dress code, which I always tend to find to be bulls*** anyway. I think the restaurant kind of looked like jerks until they made things right. It's so hard to cut one break to some guys in their 90s who served not only their country but the entire world? They acted that way because they knew that the veterans while whine bringing a lot of bad attention to the restaurant Why the vets just no go there and ate on another restaurant instead of whining on the media? Dress Codes are stupid, but if a restaurant had one, respect it, at least when I slept in some hotels like Cuba where most of time you are in shorts, I still put some pants to fo to the restaurant |

Some restaurants want to appeal to more "upscale" clientele. Places like Wolfgangs put dress codes in place to give the place an atmosphere of sophistication. A lot of people "with money" want to go somewhere that doesn't have a table of screaming kids or football on a giant tv screen. I don't go to these places mainly because there's never anything on the menu I like and it costs and arm an a leg. So casual dining places are cool with me. But as a business they have every right to enforce a dress code because it's a private business. Places like that aren't trying to get "our" business. I think dress codes are stupid, but they have every right to have one. |

Maybe maybe not, but I tell you right now, having a group of WWII veterans in your establishment creates a far better atmosphere than khaki pants and bow ties. They aren't exempt from the rules, no, but WWII veterans should be treated as honored guests, IMO. I promise you that if I had any say in such a manner, which I don't, they would be. |

Once again, the veterans didn't whine to anyone. Not the restaurant staff, not the media. If anyone whined, it was the daughter of one of the vets here. As the article stated, the vets laughed about it. And I'm with whoever said the presence of those vets was a hell of lot better than khakis and a tie. If anyone's worthy of the "guest of honor" treatment, it's them. I understand that certain places want to create a certain atmosphere. I accept that. I just can't help but find it kind of laughable.
