I wonder what this means for the Rock Band franchise... According to the HMX forums, the Rock Band DLC will still keep on coming. Which, really, is all you need at this point if you still play music games.

I'm not sure how the Rock Band IP is owned, but I can see MTV Games not really having a problem with selling the IP to Harmonix if they get a cut of royalties.
I was worried sick that Activision would snatch them up. Really, really happy to see that isn't the case.

They took Neversoft who developed tons of editions of Tony Hawk that barely differed, then handed them Guitar Hero to release a bunch of editions that barely differ. They still have the edge in name recognition with GH and it just wouldn't have been healthy business wise. On the flipside, had it happened and led to Harmonix taking over both franchises and Neversoft going back to Tony Hawk... I'd have been cool with that.

I dunno if this is that good of a thing. I mean, do we know ANYTHING about this "Columbus Nova" group?
I'm not getting a good feeling about this, really.
I'd honestly rather they go to someone we at least know than a no-name group of investors....

I hope this new company follows suit.

According to Harmonix themselves, this just means they're basically going independent and will be able to do their own thing. They also own the Rock Band IP, so no worries there.

As long as it isn't Activision.
