Another one is Mark May. I can't stand to listen to May talk about USC. What's odd is May went to Pitt and while he does show some bias toward them,he's even worse when it comes to USC. He seems to have toned down on it some since Carroll left but for a few years there,it was all he would talk about. They would be talking about some other game and May would somehow have to get in there how unjustifiable it was that USC was ranked low. USC could have 3 losses but May would swear that they should be in the title game. He actually made me hate USC for a while and they were a team I never had any problem with. I just wanted to see them lose hoping he would shut up about them but it never seemed to happen. He actually makes me hate life.

Gary Danielsen and Tim Tebow.
I've never seen anything like it.
He would've blown him on the field if he could.

This happens a lot with NFL announcers. The worst might be the Colts' Bob Lamey. A Boston station last week pointed this out: audio.weei.com/m/35403609/the-colts-announcers-focus-on-flags.htm#q=colts+announcersAnd here's how he called the pick-6 that lost the Super Bowl for the Colts: Living in New York, I'll say Sterling/Waldman aren't homers as much as they're just simply over the top. None of the other announcers are even close (and that includes the fact Mike Breen replaced Marv Albert for the Knicks on tv because Marv was "too critical.") Thats a good thing though, on the local level the announcers should be more homerish, there's nothing wrong with that. On the play you posted, do you think when the NFL shows that play they'll use Bob Lemay's call of it? Of course not they'll use the Saints lead announcer, thats how it should be. On the national level though the Homer stuff doesn't work, its really embarrassing. I know this though, despite the Homers, the guys that call NFL games on the radio are worlds better than the TV guys, and a big part of that is because they really get it into it. Besides, you can be a Homer and still be objective. I'm one of the biggest Lions homers here(hangs head in shame), but I don't hate any of the other teams in the league, not even the division rivals. But yeah, I'm all for local broadcasters being big fat homers. EDIT: One more thing about Bob Lemay. He's a Homer of the highest level, but when the Colts play like total crap, he is all over them throwing fits and such. Think Randy Quaid in Major League 2, but more subtle.

As a White Sox fan, I have to say Hawk drives me nuts sometimes. I'm fine when he just concentrates on the game, or even the negativity when "we just didn't get it done", or "we had bases loaded nobody out and only get one!" But the constant riding the umpires has got to stop and makes me too uncomfortable to listen any further. That's why I listen to Ed Farmer & Darrin Jackson on the radio. They're soothing, they're good at calling the action and they're just fun to listen to. They're like a couple married for many years and once in awhile they just get on each others' nerves. I can picture Ed giving DJ "the fish eye" when Darrin tries to sing an old '70s song, or asks him if he remembers an obscure movie from the late '60s. (It's a crack about how Farmio is older.)
Wayne Larrivee & Larry McCarren calling the Packers games are homers; but tolerable homers. The Packers would stop the other team from advancing on 4th down, or a crucial interception near the end of the game (Packers leading) and Wayne would yell, "And there is your dagger!"
The worst-ever was Dick Butkus when he did the Bears games. This was at a time when they squeezed 4 announcers in the booth. Only thing Dick ever added was when there was a fumble and he'd scream "BALL!" Otherwise he'd just talk up how the Bears were so great and the other team "sucked". Nice comprehensive announcing there, 51.

Three words: Jay. f***in'. Bilas. His Duke bias makes Vitale look tame in comparison, not to mention I've never seen Vitale doing what you've mentioned. You have never heard Vitale talk about Duke while calling a game that Duke isn't playing. He does it all the time. Wow, that's ridiculous.

At least Bilas actually went to Duke, I don't know what Dukie V's excuse is.

The bias ITV show towards Liverpool is ridiculous, it's just about understandable against unknown foreign teams but even against Arsenal in the champions league their coverage favoured the scousers.
In contrast Phil Thompson is fine as I think that pundits (as opposed to commentators) can be bias towards their own team as long as they acknowledge it and don't go too far, eg Ian Wright acting like a kid and refusing to talk out of anger.
Also most referees, especially the ones that are scared to give a decision against the big team.

EDIT: One more thing about Bob Lemay. He's a Homer of the highest level, but when the Colts play like total crap, he is all over them throwing fits and such. Think Randy Quaid in Major League 2, but more subtle. That's the final stage in the Ken Harrellson announcing grand slam. Stage 1) "Total excitement, "Put it on the board, yes! Yes!", "What a play by Buerhle!", "Hit to right, looks like it'll drop in - look at the PLAY BY QUENTIN! MERCY! What a play by Carlos Quentin!" Stage 2) "THAT WAS A BUNCH A BS! WHAT A LOUSY CALL! Gad (pause)...MERCY!" (Ken sulks the rest of the game.) Stage 3) Straight, monotone call of the game. "Chopper left side. And there's two out." Stage 4) "We just didn't get it done. Had bases-loaded, NOBODY out, and only muster one run. You can't do that and expect to win many ballgames." Much like the word "dude", Hawk's "Mercy!" can mean 15 different things, anywhere from an exclamation of excitement ("Paulie with the walk-off in the 9th! The Sox come back from 5 down to win it 7-6! MERCY!"), to a flat-out cover of a curse-word. (Hit down the left-field line: "Go foul! It will...NO, HE CALLED IT FAIR! MERCY!")

Who's Joe Buck a homer for? He's an insufferable bore, but I don't know if he counts as a homer. Cowboys by association of Aikman. I can't stand listening to them call a Philly game period anymore. Philly's D is on the field. They talk completely about the opponent's O. Offense's D is on the field. It's their opponent's O. The weird thing is, Aikman is tolerable. But Buck is so far up his and the Cowboy's ass at times it gets ridiculous to the point I end up muting the game and listening to the radio.
