Who do you think are the biggest homers in sports? One of my picks is Dick Vitale when he is discussing Duke basketball. He could be doing a Kansas - Oklahoma game and he will go on and on about Duke and their coach. I have no problem with Vitale liking Duke but ESPN needs to reel him in because he is embarrassing himself with these rants.
My other pick is Bill Walton's love for Reggie Miller. Thank God Miller retired because I could not take anymore of Walton drooling over him.

Three words:
Jay. f***in'. Bilas.
His Duke bias makes Vitale look tame in comparison, not to mention I've never seen Vitale doing what you've mentioned.

And anyone else remember after the selection show for the tournament in 09 he pretty much suggested that the NCAA ditch mid majors and become like the BCS? One of the most idiotic statements I've ever heard involving sports.

Don Cherry can be pretty bad sometimes when it comes to the Leafs. He also has a major thing for Ontario players - it seems they can do no wrong and when they do, it's just a "misunderstanding".

Dan LeBatard.
I used to like him, when he was just one of the random guys ESPN brought in to help bolster their regional coverage by having him make appearances on shows to talk South Florida sports teams. (He never discusses anything north of Miami, really.) Now? He's annoying, and doesn't believe any Miami team can fail, ever.

This thread begins and ends with Ken "Hawk" Harrelson. Even most White Sox fans admit how much a giant homer the guy is.

He just happens to fit the role of jackass to a T.

I don't follow. Are we talking about morons or what?

I don't think so. A homer is just someone who cheers for the team they call games for and never see them do anything wrong.

Even most White Sox fans admit how much a giant homer the guy is. agreed...hes like Cole to the white sox Miz...and everyone else is Bryan...ive outright heard him say crap like "the sox could have come back from this one if the dang pitcher wasnt so hocked up on steroids and scared the ump to make the calls against the sox today" "that ump has no business on the field making these calls. that was a damn strike, he knows it, the fans know it...i hope a fastball finds his head at the start of the next inning...just right on the noggin"

What gets me is when the Sox are down in a game and not in a good position to come back e just stops calling the game. Other than saying things like "pop up 1 out" or "base hit Twins score" he'll just sit there and make Stone or before that Paciorek carry all of the work load.

I thought to myself, "Hmm, I'll mosey on into this thread and just see what the ol' 'Crap contingency is throwing around in here."
Well, every name mentioned so far is dead on target. And just seeing the mere mention of them has my blood pressure up. I HATE them. Good calls on Bilas, Vitale, and Harrellson.
If I were nominating someone ... it would be ESPN in general. (OK, seriously, I have to leave now.)

See, living in the New York media market, I thought Sterling and Waldman were bad, until I got Fios (which has WGN) and heard Hawk Harrelson for the first time. My ears took days to stop bleeding.
Sterling and Waldman are still awful announcers, but not as hideous a couple of homers as I had originally thought.
Some people like to give the Devils' color guy, former goalie Glenn "Chico" Resch, a hard time about being a homer, but while Chico is obviously a big Devils fan, the guy basically never says anything really bad about ANY team. He's overly nice while calling a game, will admit if he was wrong about something upon seeing a replay, and basically assumes the best in everyone on the ice. He's only strongly inherently biased towards goalies, and his analysis in the post game shows is usually very sharp.
What scares me sometimes is when I hear a national radio show playing clips of various NFL commentators from around the country. I LOVE when a broadcaster gets an excited sounding voice when the home team does well, but some of these guys are absolute lunatics, and emotionally fly off the handle. Not to say the New York market is 100% perfect, but there's a clear threshold here in most of our commentating, and fans around here usually aren't enamored with big time homers or broadcasters who rant and rave if they disagree with a call.

Woody Paige and Joe Buck are two I can immediately think of.
I would include Skip Bayless, but he's more of a bandwagon fan.

Who's Joe Buck a homer for?
He's an insufferable bore, but I don't know if he counts as a homer.

These two are near the top of the list. OF ALL THE DRAMATIC THINGS Who's Joe Buck a homer for? He's an insufferable bore, but I don't know if he counts as a homer. His father was a Cardinals pbp and I don't know if he did any of their games locally but some people think you can here it in his calls I guess.
