I am confused by this new title. What is included, what versions and/or changes to the games have been made?
Someone told me this is also no longer for sale if it wasn't pre-ordered for it's USA release. Obviously it'll be on Ebay, but I heard it will no longer be sold as new from everywhere from Wal-Mart to GameStop.
I look to you all for as much info as you have on these questions or others, thank you!

It's pretty much just a port of the Super Nintendo cart. No +World, just the basic All Stars game. You do get a few extra things like a music CD, and an art book, but the core disc itself is just a port of Super Mario All-Stars

And it is very available at stores. It is just limited run, like Metroid Prime Trilogy.

Only ONE song from Super Mario Galaxy. So ... you can spend $21 buying them on Virtual Console, or $30 to get them with a new coat of paint and a half-assed CD. Jed Shaffer ~Already had all four on VC. They ain't getting my money again for these games.

I bet you can find the SNES game for cheaper. I look at this as more as a collators item that can be worth quite a bit in a few years.

Don't get me started on the carts. For the Nintendo made games, they are no less than $30..... Ouch. On the flip side, these stores treat the SEGA systems with a COMPLETELY different tone. The Genesis, Saturn, and Dreamcast are all $30 each, come with two controllers, and a free SEGA made game(usually a good game, like Sonic 2 for the Genesis), and most of the games are dirt cheap and only the "rare" games are over $15.

I ended up getting it because I've been a huge Mario mark since I was like 2. I already have the NES games AND have 2 of them on the Wii VC. This collection could even very well introduce the older games to a new generation of gamers, i.e. younger kids who couldn't be arsed to go out and buy an SNES or download these games on the VC.

This may just be me coming off as bitter, but I remember getting into an argument with someone over this game on how this was a supposedly great value and how it was better than Sega's "half assed" compilation discs.
So in his mind:
Sonic Mega Collection = Every Sonic game on the Genesis + Flicky + Ristar + Videos + Sonic Comic Book covers = $40 price point(back in 2002) lazy and bad value
Ultimate Genesis Collection = 40 Genesis games + Arcade games + Interviews + Box arts + ability to save anywhere = price point of $30 = lazy and bad value
Super Mario Allstars Collector's Edition = 4 Mario games + CD with only 10 songs and 10 sound effects + plus a pamphlet(from what I hear, the art book is just a glorified pamphlet) + 50hz for PAL users = best freaking compilation ever.
I mean there's a lot, and I mean a LOT they could've done for this game. They could've done one of the following:
1. Remade the games from scratch. It could've been done in NSMB Wii style or it could've been done in the hand drawn Wario Land Shake it style.
2. Included more games. I mean where's Yoshi's Island? Where's Donkey Kong? Where's Super Mario World? Where's Super Mario 64? Sunshine would probably be pushing it, but c'mon?
3. Included the 8-bit originals alongside it.
But as it stands, it doesn't seem like a good deal in my eyes. And what's more baffling is how it gets some generous scores from some sites. I mean, yeah, All-Stars is a fine game but when other compilations get dinged for less, it's baffling.

I had considered getting it for the art book and the CD, but now that I know the story on the CD.... Yeah, I own two cartridge versions of All-Stars as it is.

If the price drops or some store puts it on sale for $20.00, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.
But $30 is way too expensive for a compilation that I got for free when it was released 17 years ago.

Amazon has the SNES cartridge used starting around $17, if that helps?

I don't care too much about them putting no effort into the disc (although a few more titles would have been nice) but there's no excuse for such a poor CD when they have so many great tracks to chose from.

I always say that Nintendo could basically sell Shit in Bags. As long as they put their logo or Mario on it, enough stupid people will buy it and call it the greatest thing ever. Nintendo is basically the most overrated thing in this world (I mean there are even people who defend the Virtual Boy or the N64 as great consoles with lots of great games...), because everyone had a "Nintendo" as a kid and therefore they can't do no wrong. And that Collection is nothing more than a rip-off, a cheap, dirty rip-off
