This may just be me coming off as bitter, but I remember getting into an argument with someone over this game on how this was a supposedly great value and how it was better than Sega's "half assed" compilation discs. So in his mind: Sonic Mega Collection = Every Sonic game on the Genesis + Flicky + Ristar + Videos + Sonic Comic Book covers = $40 price point(back in 2002) lazy and bad value Ultimate Genesis Collection = 40 Genesis games + Arcade games + Interviews + Box arts + ability to save anywhere = price point of $30 = lazy and bad value Super Mario Allstars Collector's Edition = 4 Mario games + CD with only 10 songs and 10 sound effects + plus a pamphlet(from what I hear, the art book is just a glorified pamphlet) + 50hz for PAL users = best freaking compilation ever. I'm willing to guess you were wating your breath with a Nintendo fanboy. Of course they'll dismiss anything made by another company as a bad deal. Let him piss away 30 bucks on a 4-game disc, while Sonic's UGC is actually a great value.

The CD, dare I say it, isn't that bad? Yeah, the last 10 tracks are just SFX but the rest is the main themes from each of the man games (Super Mario Bros, Super Mario 2, Super Mario Bros 3, Super Mario World, Super Mario 64, Super Mario Sunshine, Super Mario Galaxy, New Super Mario Bros DS, New Super Mario Bros Wii and Super Mario Galaxy 2). Which is a kind of good deal if you're into vg music and don't already own these songs. The booklet however I feel is a waste. I was expecting more in depth looks at the games but the explenations and summary's of each game by Shigeru Miyamoto are wittled down into one sentence each.

Nintendo just half-assed it here. I love them to death, but they botched what could've been one of the best gaming deals since The Orange Box. Cartridge, I can understand with the limitations and such, but with a freakin' Wii disc, you had the potential to not only put in SMWorld, but perhaps a couple of the Game Boy SMLand games in there, or maybe Yoshi's Island.
Not to mention, the bonus soundtrack and booklet just sound like ass.
Bad Nintendo. BAD!!! It probably is a better deal to just get them on the VC if you have everything needed.
But then again, if you have an 8-year old who has only played the new Mario games, and has no access to the VC, then yeah, you have no other damn choice than to get him/her this collection and show them what true gaming is like and how if it wasn't for these games, we wouldn't be playing the Galaxy games or NSMBWii.

I always say that Nintendo could basically sell s*** in Bags. As long as they put their logo or Mario on it, enough stupid people will buy it and call it the greatest thing ever. Nintendo is basically the most overrated thing in this world (I mean there are even people who defend the Virtual Boy or the N64 as great consoles with lots of great games...), because everyone had a "Nintendo" as a kid and therefore they can't do no wrong. And that Collection is nothing more than a rip-off, a cheap, dirty rip-off For the most part, Nintendo legitimately does mean quality. And my personal opinion is that the Virtual Boy while with some poor design choices did have some good games and good ideas behind it, and that the N64 is awesome.

I mean, yeah, it wasn't a 3rd party powerhouse like the Playstation, but I can't bring myself to say it had an outright terrible library. Hell, I'm waiting for Nintendo to release more N64 games for VC.

Sin and Punishment, Battalion Wars, etc... If they don't have Mario they don't do the numbers.

If they had updated the graphics and audio again, I'd have considered buying it. But as it stands, it's just a rerelease of a game I've owned for 17 years. And even if I didn't, I could likely get a working SNES and a copy of the game around here for less than the price of the disc.
