It's about freaking time that Alice Cooper gets the induction!!!!
Looks like the rumours were true, as the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame Class of 2011 was made public on Tuesday through a number of media outlets, a day ahead of Wednesday morning’s official announcement by the Hall.
Alice Cooper, Neil Diamond Tom Waits, Dr. John and Darlene Love will enter the Hall at the 26th Annual Induction Ceremony on March 14, 2011 at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
“I was elated,” Cooper told Rolling Stone, “and I called the original band guys immediately, and said, 'Well, remember when we started in high school?' [Laughs] 'Here we are. Only took 45 years.”
“The big difference between the Hall of Fame and anything else is that you are voted in by your peers and the people that influenced you,” added Alice. “I look at the list of people that are in there it's all of my heroes from, Pete Townshend to the Yardbirds to the Beatles to the Stones and everybody that we listened to in order to become Alice Cooper. It's pretty amazing to us that those are the same people that actually vote on you. So that's quite a privilege.”
Neil Diamond was just as thrilled. “I think it's great. I'm happy that that they recognized me and my work. Any club that has Chuck Berry and Little Richard and The Everly Brothers is a club that I want to be a part of,” he told Rolling Stone.
Darlene Love got the news in a limo on the way to do a private Christmas Party in Atlantic City. “Me and my husband were just kinda dozing off when I got the call — I was just stunned for a minute. Then I started screaming, and I thought, 'I sure hope the driver don't think my husband's back here tryin' to kill me.' I was laughing and crying at the same time. I'm still on cloud nine.”
“I was very surprised,” said 70-year old New Orleans legend Dr. John. “It's a good feeling that my peers voted me in. I do know that some dear friends of mine voted for me, like B.B. King, Van Morrison and Keith Richards.”
So far, the only inductee that hasn’t been reached for comment is Tom Waits – and if you know anything about Tom, he’ll likely do something in a completely original way. That’s the Waits style.
