Got this on Blu-ray for Christmas (along with Life and Wonders of the Solar System) and it looks absolutely f***ing stunning (and I am so glad it's David Attenborough narrating rather than Sigourney Weaver). I'd seen the series before and I think it's one of the greatest achievements in television ever but in Blu-ray it's possibly the best looking disc I've ever seen. The BBC really has no equal when it comes to producing factual TV shows, especially the Natural History Department.
Anyone else watch this show when it was first on few years ago?

I love Planet Earth, some of the footage that they managed to collect was breathtakingly good. Especially that footage they managed to get of the Lion's actually hunting and killing an elephant. That was fantastic.
Also, erm Sigourney Weaver? Seriously, they had her do the narration for one version of the show?
Erm. . .why? David Attenborough has got the worlds best nature show voice. :/

The Discovery Channel co-produced it, so I'm guessing it was shown in The Discovery Channel in the USA. I've heard her narration of it and she's very good but Attenborough is the absolute master.

Yes, Planet Earth was "localized" for the Discovery Channel. Most BBC Documentries are. For example, the US version of Walking With Dinosaurs had Avery Brooks, and the US version of Life had Oprah. It's not only using an American Actor, it's a weights and measurements thing as well. You can't use the Metric system on American television (Especially for Temperature) and things cannot be refered to as an area the size of Wales.
I for one, prefer DA, and usually buy the BBC version from off Amazon. I hear Planet Earth was amazing on HD-DVD.

Seems like such a random choice, I mean I definitely don't think of 'Nature show' when I hear Ripley from Alien mentioned Still, nice to hear that she does a good job with it

Also I remember reading something about her being quite involved in conservation after making Gorillas in the Mist.

I dead seriously misread that as "Godzillas in the Mist", but I am very tired right now.

I too got it for Christmas! I've seen the series several times before but I still plan to go through and watch all of them. Some of the footage is simply amazing.
